Good point - perhaps I could have picked a less attractive option for the standard comic choice.

I voted for the S2000. The only other car from that list that I would drive is the IS300 - beautiful car. I wouldn't be seen in an RX8 unless my life really depended on it. The Acura is too plain looking for my tastes, and the 350Z... no comment.

I would have chosen the Cat over everything else if it could get up to highway speeds.:irked::P

RX-8. It beat the Z(and G35) in several comparos. Also it's the most unique of the bunch(the only viehicle in production with a rotary right now), and it's Mazda.

The TSX is slow. The IS is kinda slow(no offense to whatshisname that has one here...).

As for a Cat...Did you check around with New Holland and International? I bet they will have something comparable, possibly cheaper. :)

boombexus - he's been here for more than a year, AND he's your fellow moderator. :P

My pick is with the TSX - it's not slow, and it's quick around corners. I hate Honda/Acura, but I love small sport sedans (loved the gen. 2 Integra sedan too) - what can I say? Great daily driver.

Though, if I liked its looks, I'd go with the RX-8 because of its sure rarity, unusual engine, and overall quickness.

s2000 no contest. I ignored the fact you said "daily driver". Not sure what I would take in that case. I would definately drive them all first, but I would expect to like the rx8, tsx or is300.

I chose the S2000. But was a tough decision between that and the RX-8. They are both good cars, in my opinion. I would kill to have either one of those. The TSX wouldn't be that bad. The IS300 and the 350Z are just not my taste, especially the 350z.

Does anyone know how much the RX8 and the s2000 cost? I know they are both way up there.

Daily driver? It couldn't be the S2000, as revving it to 6000+ at every green light would be tiresome. It couldn't be the TSX because...well, it just isn't enough. The Lexus could be okay, but not in this company. Plus, I just can't get myself to be a fan of Lexus (read: Scarsdale Lexus drivers are so damned rude). The CAT is amusing, but I need a bit more speed. Change to a lightweight front blade and it should be light enough....

That leaves the RX-8 and 350Z (as it should be). I think the RX-8 is a bit too soft for me (I can tolerate a harsh ride every day), although I'm sure the looks, engine, and handling are superior to the 350Z. And, ironically for me, that results in the 350Z as my choice. Its truck-like engine should be torquey enough, there's enough room for me, and it's the fastest of the group.

A fully optioned Mazda RX-8 barely tops 33K with every option checked. The RX-8 with the 250hp Renesis and 6 speed and bare bones starts at around 28K.

What I'm wondering is why the Mazda 6 isn't listed...other than the fact that it doesn't go much above 28K...it's faster and outhandles the TSX, and costs less. Though it doesn't fit into this thread, so that's ok.

Why not? It should be about as capable a car as an S2000. More practical, too.

I'm sure it's just as, if not more, capable than the S2000. I just cant't stand the looks of it. It looks like a goofy jelly bean, or something, IMO. I will not drive a car if I don't like the way it looks.

More practical? Probably so, but at this age... I couldn't care less about practicality.:mischievous: Also, having owned an S2000... I'm a bit biased towards them.;)

RX-8. I love that shape, and the body's as close to a two door as I'm allowed.

The Z and the IS300 are very tempting.

The Cat's got dreadful weather protection.

i dont think the s2000 would be as painful as some may think. you certainly dont need to rev it to 6k unless you want to.

Im also pretty sure at a track the s2000 would trounce the 350z. If it doesnt, its because of the 350z is quicker in a straight line. actually, who cares about laptimes, the s2000 was made for the track, and would be way more fun.

example, I just got back from a weekend at the track with my e30 m3. the e36s were quicker, sure, but who the f&%k cares? we werent racing. im absolutely sure my car was much more enjoyable to drive than the e36s. I actually passed one a few times, :).

For anyone not competing, laptimes mean shlt. Its all about the feel of the car, and having fun.

Toyota Supra Twin Turbo 1996, £12000 (about $20000). Can't argue. :D

Don't get me started...

The S2000 is a convertible, when it's all said and done...why not? You don't have to shift at 6k, just as said before. (Besides, having to shift at 500rpm in the Caterpillar might get tiresome, too.)

I would take the Mazda, in a close win over the 350z. I have to say that the 350z is almost certain to suffer the same fate as the Audi TT, namely total ubiquity.

I do think that the Lexus is a good looking car, but again, there are too many about, although the 3L is the one to have. The S2000 is a one-trick pony, and that's not being a daily driver.

Cars for me have to have aircon, which I don't think is available on the Cat,otherwise I would have had that! ;)

Gotta remember this a "daily driver." The S2000 would be nothing but a pain in the ass as a daily driver. The suicide door on the RX8 is stupid. I like the 350Z but voted for the IS300 because it has four doors.

Oooooh! Get her! :D

The S2000 would be a pain in the butt on a daily basis - the MASSIVE group 20 insurance, parts and servicing bills notwithstanding (Major service every 12,000 miles at £400 a pop.. Not my idea of fun).

The 350Z is just u-u-u-u-gly! And they won't arrive in the UK for another 12 months.

What's an Acura? :D

I'd probably go with the RX-8 to be honest. Fabulous looker - although the suicide doors ARE stupid, but they make the car a little more practical for everyday purposes. Imagine fitting 6 bags of compost in the back of an S2000. Or taking the dog to the park... The new rotary is alleged to be more reliable and less thirsty on the gas and oil than the RX-7, so as a day-to-day car it's a cracker.

And with a 1.3 engine, you get reduced Road Tax in the UK (£105 compared to £155). Is that enough for you?

Why does everyone say that?! Is it because you constantly see other people saying it?

I bet 99% of you who have said the S2000 would make a bad daily driver have never even started one, let alone driven one.
