I don't know if this is good or not honestly. I'd rather them focus on new cars, and just polish the standards, rather than painstakingly make them into premium quality inside and out. Perhaps, some few cars here and there deserves it, but if we're talking about upgrading all, or most of the standard roster, just no. Too much time that should be invested in other things.

If they won't convert them to premium, I'd say at least allow us to see the fenders/hood/trunk/mirrors in the cockpit view. I hate getting in my Ram, only to be disappointed in not being able to see the giant hood.

It might just be me, but I think that it will be best if PD could focus on the tracks of Gran Turismo 5, since each and every one of them have become boring to drive on.

I forgot the suggestion was for GT5. When I said what I said, I was thinking of how PD should approach GT6, in my opinion. Other than that, I definitely agree with you that getting more tracks is better suited for longer interests, as we already have an abundance of cars already.

Then again, I just want them to be done with GT5 soon. Competition is moving fast, and if all they focus on is GT5 in the next year or so, they're gonna be left behind. Loyal fans like me will still stick for the franchise, but I get the feeling the casual ones will lose great interest if the franchise is too behind from the competition.

Much rather see time invested in making standards into premiums than making completely fresh models, most likely half of them being useless/boring cars.

You're forgetting that there is no such thing as a standard to premium conversion, in terms of what PD do. All premium cars are made from scratch, even if a standard model already exists. Sure they can use the very basic data but basically the model starts from nothing so it takes just as long to create a premium version of a standard car as it does to create a premium version of a completely new model to the game.

This.

I believe that PD have also made a so-called "Standard to Premium" conversion of a Jaguar race car (forgotten it's name but it's purple, white and orange). It's actually made from scratch but it's reasonable that they re-use basic data about the car. Other then that it's all made from scratch. But after doing that, there is two of exactly the same car in the game, the only difference being that one is premium and the other is standard. No point in my opinion, we already have enough duplicates of cars in Gran Turismo 5 just so PD can say there's over 1,000 cars in the game.

They probably just call it a "conversion" because they can't think of a better word.

To be honest, I can't either... "Upgrade" from Standard to Premium? "Remove a Standard car and replace it with a Premium equivalent"? I don't know.

I think that 'recreation' is a better word since making a standard car 'premium' basically means making the whole car over again.

I agree. Even tho I don't use the cockpit view that much, when I do, I would like to see something more than just a silhouette.

Every chance we had for them to upgrade (by that i mean remodel) standards to premiums was probably gone when that Jaguar XJR9 was released and everyone complained how it should have been free.

Just imagine if they release a dlc pack with upgraded standards to premiums. The community will make a lot more "I wont buy GT6", "I'm buying an XBOX" threads...

"In an interview with Famitsu this week, Polyphony prez Kazunori Yamauchi reveals that there are plans in place to upgrade the standard cars to premium status."

:D

It's not upgrading anything since they're not adding on to the actual standard model. All they're doing is creating another premium car from scratch that is the same car as the standard model. And in my eyes there's no point, since the car is already drivable in the game and the last thing I want in Gran Turismo 5 is another car duplicate.

So it is almost a year and a half since this news was presented, and we have got only one standard car upgraded to premium (not free of charge). There is nothing more to comment...;)

Sooner Andorra becomes the leader of the European football than all standard cars be premium;):)

And it totally wasn't worth it in my opinion since the car was already in the game, and now we have another duplicate of a car.

Which standard car should become premium is a matter of taste and it should have replaced its standard equivalent but not be charged. The main point is we have got only one car upgraded so far. Only one of eight hundreds, al least one of hundred which are worthy being upgraded. Bearing in mind that, news above ("Gran Turismo 5 has a mix of gloriously detailed “premium” cars and less detailed “standard cars.” In an interview with Famitsu this week, Polyphony prez Kazunori Yamauchi reveals that there are plans in place to upgrade the standard cars to premium status.)" seems to be ridiculous, as well as an information on receving new DLC approximately every two months.

If they're going to recreate every single standard car into a premium one then I don't see that happening anytime soon, especially if they're only done one car already. No point in my opinion.

Do you realize that that artical is from almost two years ago. Very old news, lol.
haha I only meant to post that for the word "upgrade" to take the place of "improved" and "recreated". Improved is generally tweaking something when upgrade... doesn't? lol. I didn't mean it to be taken seriously.

The Prowler is technically a Premium, because the gauges work and the interior seems to be fully modelled.

I never knew what the interior of a Prowler looked like exactly, but I expected more.

That little taped-on tachometer was in the real car?

Hm. I did not know that. I thought that was something PD added to make it easier to drive.

Sometimes I think the improved standards are done in different levels as a way to "test" how much time takes to upgrade them to these levels.

As the prowler interior seem to be sub-premium, with working gauges and all... it looks o.k. The others have a bit lower quality interior with no working gauges.

Or maybe it's just because the prowler it's the only one that it's a "street" car...

Hmmm one of those crazy toughts, you know.

Nope, not upgraded. The standard Jag is still here, ya know. Not to mention you had to pay a fee to get something you should have received in the beginning.

Why should you have received anything more than the game advertised itself for? If it had said "1000 premium cars" then I get your point, but PD didn't fib at all...

No... they didn't 'fib' at all... they only mentioned over 1000 detailed cars and all promo vids we got from GT5 were of all premium cars. Only very very late in the game just prior to release did we find out that there was a standard vs premium split and we got tiny jpgs posted on their main gt website with small descriptions of what a standard didn't have over a premium. Only after the game was released did we fully understand what exactly came with standards, and not being able to go to photo travel or upgrade to have rims was just a few of the things.

I surely hope that GT6 doesn't have a split in car quality and features. All cars should be built to the same 'standard'. :grumpy:

Don't forget that... shall we say "creatively edited" 40-second video that they released and promptly buried under all of their E3 news.
