I need an opinion:

I want to buy a decent steering wheel (most likely a G25) but from the past I haven't been exactly brilliant with them. None of my friends have bought a steering wheel yet so I can't have a test drive. Is it worth blowing loads of money on a steering wheel If I don't think I'm good enough?

It's only worth it if you plan on using it on a regular basis, the fact that you think you're not good enough doesn't matter. I would recommend getting the G25 and maybe waiting a bit for a possible price drop on it since the G27 is on the horizon so you may be able to get a good deal on it.

Once you get seat time with a good wheel you will find that the learning curve is quite quick and you will adjust fairly fast to it

I got a Logitech Driving Force Pro and I found that when you have a wheel, the game is a bit easier because you don't have to put up with the controler limiting how hard you turn and it's really useful for drifting if you get in a curb a bit too fast. A Logitech costs $129 Canadian I think and it's cood if you are a beginer because with the G25 and 27, you need to have a clutch. Plus if you drive with no traction control and you forget to disable it (happens to me sometimes), you can do it while you are racing but that's only one of the things you can do with the wheel.

how would you rate the logitech driving force pro? Might be persuaded to buy that now, also the gear stick how many gears are there and does it use flappy paddles?

I got a DFP from someone I know and it does the job. It supports 900 degrees of rotation. Way better than a controller and it's not so expansive. Once you're confortable with the wheel, you will see a slight difference in your lap times.

Okay guys thanks for the help. I've set my sights on a G25 because I had a go on one playin CMR DiRT 2, It was brilliant. But now I have another problem. I want to buy it but the cheapest I can Find it new in the UK is at Play.com for £199.99. I wouldn't mind spending £120-£150 but £200 is too much. Does anyone have any stores I can use.

i live in the us, and amazon had the best deal by far, it was solid at 200 dollars over here, im pretty sure thats 130 euro right? check there

152.83

edit 2: ok i just got my g25, like a week ago, just finished building my simulator. i love it, like you even underestimate how amazing it is. i can see why people fell the force feed back is weak, but that is gt:5p not the wheel itself. honestly it will be your best purchase if you love racing and if you think gt is one of the best games ever produced.

Thanks :) In the UK it comes to £152.83

Guys another question -

When going down straights, say Suzuka, does the force feedback kick in on the g25, because just now when playing gt5p It stayed bang in the middle of the road. But I was only using a controller

it trys to wobble a little here and there. if you are going PERRRRFECTLY straight it wont bother you (if you are in a slower car) if you are not going perfectly straight it fights you, and if you are on daytona road course, corvette tuned, fully tuned, will max down force, it FIGHTS YOU HARD

DF GT is your best choice, save the money from buying G25. wait for G27 or Fanatec wheel

i would ask yourself if you are willing to pay full price for the few added items on the g27 that we think we know, or playing a major discounted press for a g25.

I know I'm a bit late now, but YES. Very worth it.

When I upgraded from the pad to a DFP, I was awful... I skidded off everywhere, and I wasn't particularly confident that I'd ever get good.

But I kept at it, and got it within a few days. Now, a couple of years later, I now struggle with the pad! :P
