I'm looking for recommendations on what to get for a steering wheel for a PS4. I need the pedal functions to be able to be done on the wheel as my legs are pretty much decorative. The standard DS4 controller just isnt cutting it for being able to hold a decent line on the track. It will be used primarily for Gran Turismo Sport & the new one when it comes out at the end of the year, so something that is likely PS5 compatible would be preferable.

Not too concerned about being able to add a separate shifter. Although it could be something worth looking into. This will seem a dumb question, but when you use the separate shifter is using a clutch required, or its more of a semi auto type deal? Never used one before.

For off the shelf gear Fanatec would be your best bet.

They have these...

... but I'm unsure of which games would allow the pedals to be mapped to the paddles and future compatibility for PS 5 is unknown for all brands of wheels at the moment.

This is the wheel with PS 4 compatible base: https://fanatec.com/au-en/racing-wh...net&utm_campaign=General+Links&a_aid=gtplanet
It's pricey but very good.

There used to be these style of rim adaptors from Simability but unfortunately they are temporarily closed: https://www.simability.com/

Check out what former DTM and IndyCar driver Robert Wickens is doing.

I wonder if there is a mod which could turn the shift levers into a progressive throttle and brake. Then would allow for the potential to have a separate shifter. There are other Fanatec wheels which would work as well, and not cost you as much.

Thanks for the responses. It's been very helpful. Looks like it's going to be pricier than I'd hoped, but it is what it is. It's a shame that the paddles on a basic logitec or thrustmaster cant be utilised.

The simability gear looks great. I've tried a ring setup like that on a real car before & it's pretty good. Hopefully the guy doing it gets back into it when he can.

I've sent a message to Fanatec on the AU website to see what options they have.

👍 No worries.

I'm a fellow Aussie disabled driver myself. I used video games to re-learn driving after a serious accident. Driving with my left foot soon became second nature and now right foot accelerators look odd to me :)

The Fanatec CSL Elite base is a cheaper option than the one I posted earlier but I'm not sure what wheels they have with dual paddles available for them. @DomB_Fanatec is a very good source of that information here and perhaps could drop in and help you out.

They've had limited edition wheels before that teamed up with the CSL base would've been great for you. This is one: https://fanatec.com/eu-en/steering-...net&utm_campaign=General+Links&a_aid=gtplanet

Edit: Jimmy Broadbent using the McLaren rim I posted above with no pedals...

I'm hoping someone from Fanatec can point me in the right direction. The CSL setup would work for me in budget if it can be adapted to suit the paddle setup. Looking on the website it isn't compatible with the paddles in the PS4 config, but there seems to be xbox ones that are. It's a bit confusing. I'd say there will be something that works. Maybe I can hit NDIS up for it under assistive technology. lol.

I had a bit of a play around on Gran Turismo Sport in the controller menu. It seems you can change the configuration of the paddles on the thrustmaster to to accelerate & brake. I assume they wouldnt be progressive though, either on or off like using a standard button?

The XBox rims still work with a PS 4 base. They just give the added advantage of cross compatibility so you can use the wheel/rim combination on either platform. The PS 4 base has the chip in it for PS and the rim has a chip in it for XBox... best of both worlds 👍

, Why not hey!

You're right, they're like on/off switches.

Fanatec mclaren and formula (podium atleast) rims work great.

I learned to use my legs many years ago with g25.
Nowdays I use fanatec gear and paddles are great when my legs slip or cramp. Should be fully usable.

If you play GTS the clutch is pretty much pointless and you can not use a shifter in Sport mode. Hope you have great luck & success on finding something that works for you! Keep us updated.

Thanks to everyone for their advise. Based on everyone's recommendations & a few messages back & forth with @DomB_Fanatec I've ordered the CSL Elite set up from Fanatec. I got it with the CSL wheel as I plan on giving that a go with the 3DRap hand control at some point. From what I can tell I'll need drivehub for the hand control to work on the PS4, but I can try it out on PC first. In the mean time my kids can use that wheel.

I couldnt make up my mind which wheel to go for with the podium paddle setup, but as luck would have it I managed to pick up the PS4 Clubsport wheel & paddles that comes with Podium Direct Drive Bundle on Ebay. I guess it's much the same as the Formula V2 wheel except it includes the podium paddles & is blue instead of orange.

Hopefully it all arrives sometime next week & I can give it a run.

Great 👍.

@Podger is the one to talk to about Drivehub. He'll be able to answer all your questions :)
