Still not bought GT6 because of frame rate issues. Is it really that bad?

So last weeks I was considering to finally buy it but after some youtube videos I realized frame rate is worse than what I was thinking. In most videos GT6 doesn't look 30fps rock solid, there are stutters hick ups that can ruin immersion and sense for speed.

So, are you particularly suscettibile to these frame drops? How it compares to GT5?
GT5 in most cases and circuit I think it is OK. Yes it has some issues if you trigger particular track weather / day night conditions but most of the time I is good enough.
I can't say the same for GT6 judging from youtube but is it really that bad?

In the 1 & 1/2 years that I have owned and played GT6, framerate drops only happen when there are an extreme amount of particle effects happening on-screen (tire smoke, dust kicked up, etc), but even then the drop is negligible. Online play in a very laggy server can kick it up a slight notch (sometimes it doesn't), but it's still not unbearable and annoying. I even find it funny sometimes because I can feel the PS3 being pushed to its utmost limits. I don't have the best HDTV in the world but it's not really that big of a problem. I've been jumping back and forth between GT6 and other games but I'm still playing it to this day; in fact I'm just taking a break and will be playing again shortly.

I think the framerate problem you encounter when watching videos of it is not because of the game, but mainly because of streaming a video.

I play GT6 on a 50 inch plasma TV and before that GT5 - I haven't noticed any frame rate drops.

There are framerate drops, but they aren't that bad. Just like in GT5, it depends on the conditions of the race such as the amount of premium cars, weather and other things.

I'd say with the frame rate issues on youtube, it's probably your internet connection. Are you using wifi or cable?
Good point, so I downloaded videos just to prevent connection to be a factor. The videos I talk about are mainly on GT6 Video Section of this forum. For example this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=20&v=a3N2B8gpGyc I used keepvid to save it on hdd. But I can still see slow down through first corner, is quite noticeable, and other slow down here and there.
Just buy the game, you cheapskate.
With 60fps I would have bought day one. But I'll end up buying just to see how much these drops are noticeable while playing and not watching a youtube video.

Keep in mind that anything you will see in YT will always run worse than in your tv. In a 30fps YT converted vid, a framedrop will look always double as worse or noticeable than in the original game in your tv at 60fps. Many of the recordings introduce hiccups that are not present during the gameplay. And aside of the framerate conversions and cheap recorders used, YT does their own conversions over the original uploaded file, so the perceived playback degrades even more.

Anyway in GT6 you can lower the resolution to 720p and reduce the screen size in the game menu to avoid the framedrops when the graphics are put on stress. It's a trade but is possible and works to anyone who demands the better framerate possible as the main priority. To most the game is perfectly playable in default mode, the framedrops are not random and are localized (some track corners, rain, etc) and most of the time justified by the rendering happening on screen, also they never ocurr below to the point to affect the gameplay.

Said this, Mount Panorama is one of the most demanding tracks in GT6 so anything happening on that example is not automatically happening to the rest of the many GT6 tracks.

Thanks for your time @Zer0 good explanation. I'll surely use 720p and avoid the tracks / conditions that trigger frame drops.
My copy of Anniversary Edition should arrive next week. Let's see how it is while playing. Car list was just to good for only 15 euro even for a Kaz hater like me. Good Saturday to you all.

Frame drops aren't an issue from my experience, I noticed them in the GT Academy demo back in 2013 but in the full game, frame drops are not anywhere near the most annoying things. That example is one of the worst videos you could pick, especially to 'analyze' frame behaviour. Here's an actual 1080/60 video captured in proper quality:

Keep in mind, only a powerful current PC will be capable of actually playing this at 60FPS. My laptop can only handle 60FPS at 720p if I stream it in the YouTube player. Also, not all YT downloaders support 60FPS.

For me and a few others, Bathurst did not run well on my system. I couldn't run it at all online and offline it often stuttered and hiccuped. Got to the point where I just didn't use it anymore. Other people had no issue so it must be hardware related on the user end. Frame rate issues occur in the game in the most predictable conditions. Lots of cars on screen, standing starts, weather etc. but for the most part it was pretty smooth for me.

I think you need to get a girlfriend!
Why we play videogames in the first place? We all should sell our gear and date womens like there's no tomorrow!
And more importantly why you are wasting your time telling me what to do?
Right now you could have fun with the girl next door possibly not letting your actual girl/wife known. ;)

Frankly if one buys a game for fun then an occasional dip below 30fps shouldn't matter.
Simply put I've played the game for a year and a half and don't notice any drops. Either they aren't there or I'm used to them.

Most grating framerate drops I've had are in the VGT gallery view of the Clubman Vision Gran Turismo. Otherwise it's smoother than GT5.

I play it in a standard 50inch LCD at 1080p and only noticed tiny drops during VGT gallery view... extreme tire smoke from multiple premium cars in the same spot maybe, but only for a split second and far from being a problem.

Dude, you really dont play the game at all because of THAT? Im impressed...

YouTube makes the game look worse than what it actually is. And I play 1080p with an HDMI cord, no issues of any frame rate lag. I'd highly suggest the game.

I never even noticed any framerate drops. The screen may freeze for a couple secs when loading races, but that's about it.

Just get the game already.

Get a better girlfriend.
Again, what if this thread is not about girlfriends and wifes but about the actual frame drops in GT6?

If people care about my situation (why they should in the first place LOL) I'm in a relationship but I pretend my freedom I don't want her to become obsessive, I have my hobbies and interests.

If someone want to boast how sexy his girlfriend/wife is, then please open your own thread in the proper forum section. Thank you.
Just get it. It's at a low price now.
Bought it already, Annyversary Edition. Shipped yesterday. 👍
Should arrive friday or saturday.

Just buy it. If you don't like the game, sell it. I don't see what's so difficult about all of this.
Maybe I should edit thread title but no, I don't bother for now. :)
When my copy will arrive I'll use it to report my opinion. Thanks for your time.
