Still not bought GT6 because of frame rate issues. Is it really that bad?

It's only bad at certain tracks from my experience. Particularly the front strait of Motegi, the first long strait at Bathurst, and Daytona Road Course have the worst framerates (Especially when using time progression and rain with 16 premiums on track).

It's not terribile, but I do play the game at 720p, since it helps the framerate a bit.

Frame rate isn't so much of an issue, biggest problems are more aliasing than GT5 & more screen tear. I ran GT6 in 720p like Eran because my TV won't accept a 1080p input.

I have never had any frame rate issues with GT5 or GT6, just sometimes my PS3 locks up and I restart the game.

Agreed. GT5 looks a lot better in 720p than GT6 does.

if you wanna see drop frame rate drive the aston martin one-77 on cockpit view the fps drop a lot while playing alone, i never try with cars on track but the experience alone tell me not would be a good idea. (1080p)

Usually it's under very, very specific circumstances where FPS drops under 60 like the ones in that video. Other than that the game is a rock solid 60 FPS experience.

Seriously though, if you are caring this much about 60 FPS on a console, a 10 year old one at that, maybe you should re-evaluate your priorities and move to PC if FPS is such a big issue. Going as far as lowering the resolution and avoiding certain areas of the game just for precious FPS that you won't notice dropping is really going to gimp your experience as a whole.

Good point, so I downloaded videos just to prevent connection to be a factor. The videos I talk about are mainly on GT6 Video Section of this forum. For example this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=20&v=a3N2B8gpGyc I used keepvid to save it on hdd. But I can still see slow down through first corner, is quite noticeable, and other slow down here and there.

With 60fps I would have bought day one. But I'll end up buying just to see how much these drops are noticeable while playing and not watching a youtube video.
Well, that video is on Mount Panorama just after its release. That track did have some framerate issues in advance. This problem was fixed in an update. GT6 doesn't suffer from occasional stuttering. Framerates are always above 30fps on my 1080p monitor. Also on YouTube GT6 looks crap on about every single video. GT6 looks much better IRL.

If it was rock solid at 60fps, there wouldn't be tearing. There is a significant amount of tearing even on things like seasonal time trial events without weather.

On certain maps. And really depends. Maybe for you its noticeable. But for me it isn't as noticeable. I mean I see it but yeah its not as bad as you're making it out to be. Seriously. If this isn't your thing just move on. Its making fuss over something that isn't that problematic and can be mostly solved by lowering the resolution to 720p.

That's besides the point. I'm not terribly annoyed by the tearing even if I do notice it, but it is evidence of a framerate that isn't rock solid at 60, even without weather. You would get tearing at 50fps too, even if the game is perfectly playable at that framerate.

I usually play in 720p anyway. Have to do so if I want to use my capture box.

You should have a link to your youtube channel on your signature.

I actually don't stream GT6 a lot (i use twitch usually, don't export much to youtube). I just can't be bothered to change from component RGB output to HDMI all the time, so I just keep it in 720 over RGB almost constantly, even when I play one of the few games I have that supports 1080p.

Well a link to your twitch then. :) I've always found recording interesting.

This thread is beautiful.
:P

Ok so today I tried the game for the first time, fps in career mode are ok more or less like GT5 so far. But GT Academy is a stutter fest. Not huge but those tiny drops here and there can ruin consistency expecially at Le Mans with that LM GT-R brick.

NEWS:

I found this brilliant thread of a guy here comparing 4 different PS3 systems.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gt6-framerate-depends-on-which-console-you-have.295306/
I've had the luxury of comparing 4 consoles with GT6 side by side and was surprised at the differences between the lot. It is clear some ps3s are MUCH more capable than others in terms of processing power. I suspect this occurs in all games but is more evident when a game maxes out the hardware like GT6,

All testing was done in 1080p on the same TV. PS3 and game settings were mucked around with but kept the same for comparison purposes for an overall result.

Fat 40GB CECHG04. 90nm GPU, 65nm CPU

Very bad FPS. Stuttering in 3d rendering of cars in garage, gallery and dealerships and the animation when you purchase cars.

Really bad game play FPS unless in bumper cam. A high amount of tearing. On screen smoke and chase view really bog this down, so does distant scenery and lots going on screen. A fair amount of microfreezes in game and coming out of driving options

Slim 120GB CECH 2001a model 45nm CPU 65nm GPU

Very poor performer. Lots of tearing and bad fps. This console is very weak for its time. A big surprise. Almost unplayable unless you turn off HDMI deep color and dynamic range and set gt6 to sharpen image. Lots of microfreezes. For example going off course in a licence test would freeze the car still whilst the grass and smoke effects continued going forward for a few seconds before the continue or retry would pop up.

3002b PS3 Slim 320GB. 40nm GPU and 45nm CPU. (the ones that no longer have disc or wifi lights)

The absolute BEST of of any ps3 version I have seen. No tearing whatsoever and almost no frame rate drops. The only time it ever dropped fps even the slightest is chase cam with lots of debris. etc in was evident moon missions. No framerate loss in cockpit view. Not a single stutter in Gallery mode or the buy car animations etc. No mircofreezes. This consoles performance was consistently smooth as silk.

PS3 Super Slim CECH-4002a. 45nm CPU and 40nm GPU

Almost as good as the 3xxx series PS3 Slims but not quite. FPS is generally good but drops are evident when dust is kicked up, and on some tracks a fair amount of consistent tearing was present. No mircrofreezes.

So to all those complaining about bad frame rates when gt6 came out, you can post here what ps3 version and model you have and your ps3 display settings.

Important note
I can confirm setting GT6 to SHARPEN IMAGE in the video options greatly increases FPS on problem systems. In addition, "XMB" Display Settings, HDMI deep colour and dynamic range to "off" or "limited" eases the rendering burden as well.

EDIT:I have confirmed dthe 3xxx series ps3 slim is in fact a 3002B console. I also completely forgot to mention the microfreezes.
