This is a thread series for the seasonal time trials that focuses on completing the challenges (i.e. beating the gold target times) with stock versions of the cars. This means that instead of maximizing your PP with upgrades and focusing on getting the fastest laps on the in-game leaderboard, you are attempting to complete the challenges with the bare minimum amount of 'car' and money-spent as is possible.

With the new more open ended format means that part of the challenge will be finding a stock car that has the lowest PP or lowest price depending on your view. It is also difficult to predict which types of tires a car will come with before purchasing.

Warning: Some of these challenges are getting to be extreme and should be approached with caution! :banghead:

In order to participate your car must be stock.

1) A stock car is essentially any car as it is when purchased from the dealership or won as a prize: it will have had no modifications, added parts, or adjustments done that affect how the car performs.
2) No oil changes are permitted: if you have had an oil change you must wait until the effects of the HP boost have been removed by driving over 300 km.
3) You must use the original tire type that came with the car, unless dirt or snow tires are required.
4) No changes to any “Car Settings” are permitted: they must ALL be left at their default values. [Note: cars that come with Fully Customizable Suspension that were purchased or won prior to patch 1.11 must have the suspension settings restored to default in order to be updated with the new stock suspension settings.]
5) No SRF or ASM is permitted: other “Driver Assists” are permitted.

Basically, the ONLY changes you may make to a car include: painting the car and changing a car’s racing number. Any other changes means your car is not stock.

Beginner Level Compact Car Challenge: Tsukuba - 400 PP - SH
Intermediate Level Night Track Challenge: Special Stage Route 5 - 500 PP - SS
Expert Level Ferrari Challenge: Ascari - 550 PP - SS

The Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:

A few members have begun a leaderboard of sorts where individuals will be able to input their info into a public document. This is not so much a competition as a way to compare all sorts of data. At this point the data that is recorded for entries is as follows:

PP - Best Lap - Total Time - Car - Tires - Drive - Power - Weight - Rabbit - Rabbit Total Time

Link to the GTP Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kDEW2OWUxHfq9PTR4G4-HKXl3veLfq0sXhvwiPYMUGw/

Notes about the Spreadsheet:
Tabs will generally be ordered with the newest seasonal events at the left.
Gold times are ordered based first on PP (lowest PP at the top), and then total time.
Bronze and Silver times are ordered based solely on total time (fastest time at the top): these entries will be grayed out.
If you are comfortable with entering your info please do so.
Only create one entry per car for your best total time for that car.
To add an empty line: right click (PC) on a gray row number box and select add a row above or below.
If you make a mistake or change something you did not mean to change hit undo once or a few times.

I think the lineup is always the same. That Enzo is a jerk. 🤬 It will slam into you like you are not even there. He actually spun me right around on a turn and it is clear it gets no ramming penalty. I was only able to beat the Enzo in races where I had made mistakes: e.g. I spun around 180 degrees (on my own :embarrassed:) and spun the car back 180 degrees, losing 4 seconds on the Enzo. Without any mistakes on your part the Enzo seems to just fly away.

Edit: I've raced against the Enzo many times now (in the 365 GTB4 '71), since I love this race and the payout. I've found that if you stay close to the Enzo for long enough the AI will actually make mistakes at various parts of the track: going off track and spinning out. If this happens however keep up your pace because it will get a huge boost in speed and eventually catch up. It will also sometimes go into a corner too quick and use you as a brake and you will get the 5 second collision penalty!

Ferrari -
I had not bought the 599 - So I bought it... In Silver to get the black leather; then I gave it a dash of AlpineWeiB. So when I put on a Race Number it will look all White, alright?

I was a bit rusty here, and this car is a heavy old hector, just like my use of the brakes... I was troubled at first, Too polite overtaking, too polite with my own handicap system of visiting a sand trap to give back a couple of places! The Enzo I think yo-yo'd in its pace, fast, then it slows but when you close in, it started to motor again.
I made my pass on after the Brundle Kink - The Enzo swerved to the right - Blatent blocking! but I kept on the left in the gap he vacated. (Not sure how I was able to out power an Enzo? Maybe the BSpec Driver had too much TCS on?) The Enzo was crawling in the twisties so the win was done. Probably too much car.

My Enzo never made any errors but an AI f430 dropped the ball at the first chicane (Donatello... one of the turtles anyhow.)

Had more fun in the TVR relative to the Ferrari. Race was a fun thing... the AI let you race to the lead, then they match your speed. My TVR however good it is in the mid speed stuff hasn't got the best top speed, so don't expect to pass too many on the elevated pit straight - I had an EPIC side by side with a Spyker - matched for speed, the only loss gain was when we changed gear . It was almost cinematic. Lead car was a F430 or else a 430 Scuderia - if so make sure you are clean as a bar of soap in the final few corners - My Scud closed in and I thought I was going to lose it... but the race gantry isn't the Green road signs (Well That was what I was looking at - thinking - "Well I can restart this one" when I had just done enough.

I had a quick go at Ascari in the 512BB but I wasn't really getting anywhere. The car that was so enjoyable at la Sierra is a slippery mess here. Probably just me pushing too hard for a victory that is never going to come against such aggressive AI. I still haven't got this track. Can't find the flow. Too many horrible memories of the Veyron. I'll probably get back to it in a different car.

In the meantime switched to driving some slow old cars on comfort tyres on a track where I know where I am.

Also did it in the Renault 5 Turbo '80 but didn't note the results. Bit vague on the Alfa as well. Nearly there with the Spitfire but then I'm running out of cars to try. The old Mini Cooper didn't quite cut it and then it's down to the Kubelwagen. Time to visit the car search.

Does take a bit of track time for you to find the line here. (I'm getting Post Ascari Stress Disorder flashbacks now.) However a Nice F430 should be the perfect tool to get up to speed. I used to hammer into corners and hope to sort it out later, but much of the track it is brake early- hurry up and wait then get on the beans for the corner exit, rather than taking a trip into the Spanish countryside. (My White 599 was not so white when I finished!) -

@Ryk. You're absolutely right. If ever there was a track where the "slow in fast out" mantra was more apt I can't think of one. I think my over-optimistic car choice was my downfall. When you're trying to keep up with cars that seem to be doing "fast in fast out' it's easy to overdo it. It will be interesting to see if anyone manages it in the 512BB. I'll be impressed.

Speaking of optimism I had a go in the Kubelwagen at Tsukuba. I can confidently say it's never going to be a winner (even if it's painted pink) but trying to do the whole race flat-out in 4th was entertaining. It's possible but you'll still come last.
The Spitfire's a good one though. Had a few close 2nd places and it's really fun to fling around.

Enzo ramming me from side, and me getting penalty, or trying to pass and getting penalty, or Enzo going off road and coming back in at chicane and ..me getting penalty. as he rams me in the side. Very tiring race, penalties for passing very harsh. You can win with time about 12:30 probably. Just do very good last lap and you have to risk on pass, you wont pass him on straight, or outside...have to undercut him and hope you don't get a penalty.

0.932 up on the Toyota Corolla RunX of M.Lindsay from Singapore.

Fun car back end nice and loose, The chaser sped up but never put any real pressure on me. I repainted the Alpine in Orange Chrome for that authentic All Hallows Eve pumpkin feel. (Doesn't look too bad with the blue wheel alloys either.)

aced all three first time out.

used my Nissan Pao for the first race and despite being down on power on the straight to a 207 GTI, won first time out. then used my GTO '84 for both of the others. won both of those first time as well which is a first for me and i enjoyed all three.

Won the Beginner Tsukuba event with the Honda 1300 Coupe 9 S about a half second in front of the Mitsubishi Cyborg. I ran the 1300 completely stock with CS tires. The PP is 340.

The Cyborg kept catching me on the straights but I managed to take him cleanly in the final corner and held on for the win.

With the 200% log in bonus, I got 132,000 credits. The car cost 12,800 for a net gain of 119,200.

EDIT: I forgot to save the race replay and don't have the exact times. I'll run this again and update the spreadsheet accordingly (if I get the same cars competing). :)

I gave myself a break with an easy one to start with. The Lotus smokes them in the corners and can keep up with them on the straights so it's just a matter of keeping it together for 5 laps. Fun car though, so tempting to drift it around but you have to be a bit careful and watch those tyre temps.

458PP –8:40.542 - 1:36.281 – Isuzu 4200R '89 – SH – MR – 299hp – 1500kg - LFA Nurburgring Package '12 - +3.301

These took a bit more strategy and planning of passes. I needed to get one clear lap in the front to get a good gap before the final straight, otherwise they'd come hurtling past.

I also got the win in a Ford RS200 but only by breaking the one-move rule on the final straight so I'm not claiming it. I'll see if I can do a clean one later. It should be possible.

Tried the Intermediate race with a stock NSX '90 (SH tires) at 439PP. Very close to winning a number of times. I can handily out corner the competition, but I'm getting killed on the front straight. My closest attempt was second to the Cizeta V16T .499 seconds behind. Incidentally I had the fastest lap of the race: 1:41.909.

I got lucky , had weak first 2 laps 2:29 and 2:30 (marred with penalties) , followed by 2.22.9 , 2:23.4 and 2:21.9
At the start of 5th lap I was in 3rd Place 9.476 seconds from the Enzo , I passed the 2nd Place 458 italia in the first chicane exit and started to chase the Enzo.

The Enzo went off track at the ~315 degree lefthander in sector 2 and the gap at T2 dropped down to 2.572 seconds.
After this I got to it's rear bumper approaching the nasty 3rd last corner. (where I lost my first shot at winning this a few days ago)
The Enzo lost it's cool and braked way too late and went off , donating me the win. When it finally got back on track it got stuck in 1st gear for about 3 seconds.

315° left hander!
The loop spiral at Autumn ring is only 260° - Sorry I've been measuring corner curvature angles all last week.

135° Left will be "Gachot" - painful corner as I forget at times how grippy my tyres are... so I either brake 50 yards too early... or, 50 yards too late and get a trip into the kitty litter.

impressive speed in the Boxer

H.Kauppinen and his bloody Enzo were getting on my nerves. I'd been trying the GTO '84 and three times I'd got to the front on lap 4 and through his reckless driving he'd given me collision penalties which cost me the race. The post-race atmosphere was tense. Kauppinen and I were not speaking. Lewis and Niko's spat pales into insignificance. So I got a 430 Scuderia and went out to teach him a lesson. I caught him by lap three and we had a nice tussle for a lap. There was some side-by-side stuff and a few passes but all nice and clean. When he had a big off in front of me I was disappointed as I was enjoying the racing, but all I had to do to win now was bring it home. As I crossed the line and began my celebrations I looked up to check the time and saw the clock was still ticking. Much too late to brake for the first corner by this time, I might have been swearing as I launched off into the bushes and watched him sail past. But I still had a whole lap to catch him, which I did, but my slightly dubious passing attempt resulted in a collision penalty, and now I only had half a lap to catch him again. I got him on the final bend with a desperate lunge down the inside, sideswiping the Enzo and getting a huge tyre-smoking slide on. A taste of your own medicine, Kauppinen.

The flying Finn was obviously rattled by his previous defeat and went off twice in the last lap. The GTO is such a great car. One of Pininfarina's greatest moments and a joy to drive. Much more agile than the Scud.

493pp - 1m37.4403 - 8m46.269 - RUF BTR - SH - RR - 369bhp - 49 Torques - 1180kg - 3.19kg/hp

Odd race as I had a fairly easy run in the TVR so was expecting the BTR to be easier - I had a great time at the Zahara/El Gastor time trial a few weeks ago in the very same stock car. At SSR5 the car was very eager to drift - Probably due to different styles of driving (Empty track makes me focus on the important stuff - Put a car in my crosshairs and I come down with a case of the Shivering Maldonardos. Apex - Braking points - Racing lines? Pah I am the Maldonardo, I only drive rental cars - Look at my lap times and despair, mortal!)
Honestly I was all over the show - The car will light up the rears if you are too eager out of a corner and the tyres will overheat if you lean on them in the corners. Gasparini in the 430 Scuderia was polite though I caught him up with one lap to go, Made a good on the outside pass on the exit of the first tunnel then tried to keep it neat. I thought I had made a bit of a gap but he hauled me in for the final chicane - the looping right onto the finish straight I was surprised to find him on the inside of me but I was full throttle and he was hugging the inside - whatever he lost momentum and despite a better speed didn't have enough time to overhaul my car - I can pick out the finishing gantry now... so I was less nervous about the win - by a 0.090 margin.

- 12:16.493 - 2:20.246 - Ferrari SP1 '08 - SH - MR - 495bhp -1450kg - Enzo Ferrari '02 - +0.127

The rivalry with Kauppinen continues. For an event which wasn't enjoying at the start I seem to be drawn back to it now. Surprisingly a bit slower than in the GTO. Nice car though. It carries its weight well. Proper sports car handling and just about fast enough to stick with the Enzo. The result was a good clean race, apart from when I rear-ended one of the stragglers on lap one and got a 5s penalty. Passed the Enzo on lap 4 but he got me back with a sneaky little move down the inside of a tight left-hander, taking advantage of his SS grip. I stuck with him, passed him at the start of lap 5 and the SP1 just had enough in it to fend him off for a lap. I've learned a bit about defensive driving from this one I have to say.

And then there's the F40. What an ordeal. I spent quite a bit of time on this and never got better than second place. It really is a pig of a car stock.

I brought my fleet of NSX's over to Japan for the Intermediate challenge.

Started out with the most senior model in my garage, the '90. Completely stock it has 439PP and SH tires. The other drivers laughed when I showed with such cheap rubber, but they didn't think it was too funny when I finished in second place less than 5 seconds behind the winning 430 Scuderia.

Since the best I could do with the '90 was 2nd, I tried the next round with my '97. Spun out and T-Boned a wall. The car was totalled.

Next up was my '97 Type S. I forget the PP, but it was only a bit higher if I recall. The Type S was the ticket. Passed the Scuderia on the last chicane, held him off and won by a narrow margin.

After a few days away came back for another go in the F40 as the current TTs don't provide much entertainment. Won on the first try, helped by the Enzo going off at the same place on lap 4 and 5.

Edit -

540PP - 2:18.568 - 12:08.784 - Ferrari F430 '06 - SH - MR - 495 - 1450 - Enzo Ferrari '02 - +0.929

Which means that between us we've done it in all the eligible stock cars except the Dino and 250 GT, both of which are pretty easy with SS tyres. I've really enjoyed this event. Not saying there haven't been a few frustrating times and I would have liked to do it in the 512BB but time is running out. I now know my way around Ascari and hardly ever get lost.
