I know it isn't rendered for widescreen on my 1080p 22'' Monitor so I see black boxes on the left and right but I know that's fine since the PS1 games weren't designed for wide-screen. Would it be correct saying the PS1 games are rendered in 480p since it wouldn't make much sense that they run interlaced or am I completely oblivious?

Also what notable difference would it make if I ran PS1 games on my PS2 hooked up to a 30'' SDTV via component? I don't have a PS1 memory card just PS2 memcards. How would they compare against if I did it on my PS3 instead?

They run on whatever setting you choose. You can choose to upscale (and smooth them) or you can choose not to upscale them and run them on 480p. You can also stretch the image, forcing it to be widescreen if I'm not mistaken. Check your settings under "Game Options" or something like that; I believe the setting is called PS1/PS2 upscaling. Personally, I strongly prefer to run my PS1 games without any scalation, smoothing or stretching. Games that old look awful on newer displays, especially if upscaled. So yeah, if you choose to run them without any upscaling you'll get 480p -- not i.

As for your second question... I'm not entirely sure I understand what you mean, so I'll pass.

Ps1 games will display better color in progressive scan on PS3. PS2 doesn't do 480p for PS1 titles, plus PS2 renders some games with artifacts and odd shadows. Ps3 is the better format with infinite memory cards and progressive scan.
