Note 2 - This Chapter Is Told From Maki's Perspective
Chapter 6 - The Incident 3 Years Ago
I watched as this boy walked through the halls of our High School. . . He was very mysterious, never talked to anyone, nor appeared in much classes. On this day, I decided to call out to him, as I've heard his name somewhere.
"Takishida!", I said in a quite loud tone.
"Ehh?", He muttered, "Who said that?"
He turned his head around, and saw me.
"We-Were you stalking me the whole time?!"
Unluckily, the bell began to ring. I had to get to class quickly.
"I'll talk to you later!", I said, rushing to class.
After class, I looked around the school to see where he always disappears to. I had no luck. I went to the next classes of the day. . . Once it was time for club activities, I searched again. I then found him, finally. He was on the rooftop of the school, laying on the bench near the fence.
"Hachi. . .", He murmured to himself,
"Roku. . ."
"Uhh. . . Umm. . . Huh?"
"Is that you again? The girl from the hall?"
"Yes, but please, call me by my name, Maki Okazakawa."
"Okay, Okazakawa-Chan"
I hated being called by my last name.
"Please, call me Maki!", I replied quickly.
"Okay then, Maki-Chan"
"So. . . What were you doing?"
"Looking at a Trueno"
"A what?", I questioned him.
He walked over to the right side of the rooftop, where you can see the streets. He pointed at a hatchback.
"That Panda Car?"
"Yes, the Trueno, Maki-Chan."
"I take it you're the car type?"
"I guess you could say that. . ."
"So, I have a question. . ."
"That is?", he said, staring at the Trueno still.
"Why are you always. . . Silent. . . And saddened?"
His head turned away, and he looked towards the sky.
". . . If you want to know. . . It's possibly something that will sadden such a girl like you."
"Please, tell me!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I actually did begin to cry a bit.
"How could such a thing happen?!"
"It's life, thing's happen. . ."
"But. . . But. . . Never mind. So, shouldn't you be at a club?"
"I'm not in one. . . No use."
"Why is that?"
"I just don't see a point in it, it sounds like nonsense, well for me, that is. Besides, I've had a strange addiction for cars lately, and there's not a club that suits my liking. . ."
He stood there for a few moments, still staring at the sky.
"Would you. . . Like to. . . Go on a. . . Ride?"
"But you're only 16, you have to be 18 for a drivers license!"
"The cops never find me, who cares. . ."
"Okay, I will."
"Okay, meet me after club activities, I'll be at the Kyoto-Gion Cafe."
"Okay. . . Bye."
"Bye."
"That boy is mysterious. . ."
Time passed by, I waited, and waited, the Music Club wasn't really doing anything. I sat near the window, staring into the sky, thinking about Ryou. When it finally ended, I said my goodbyes, and called over a taxi.
"Hey Taxi!"
The car stopped, I opened the door. . .
"Could you take me to the Kyoto-Gion City Block, please?"
"Sure, that would be 2100 Yen."
I handed him the yen, and he took me to the block. I found the Cafe he was telling me about, I looked through the window and saw him. I then proceeded to the door, and entered quietly. I walked over to him.
"Hello.", I said, with a smile.
"Ehh? Oh, it's Maki-Chan. Hello. Have a quick cup of Coffee with me, before we leave."
I sat down in the chair, it was comfortable, I could possibly fall asleep in it. He then handed me the Coffee, it looked good. But I just sat there, staring at it.
"What's wrong?"
"Huh?! Oh,", I said embarrassingly, "Sorry. I was thinking about something."
"Looks like you space out a lot, just like me."
We talked, and talked, then it was time to head out home, he called a Taxi, who took us home. Once there, he told me,
"Follow me, I'll show you something beautiful."
I walked over with him. I spotted something white.
"This is an FC, like it?"
"This beautiful car. . ."
"I've seen it before. . ."
"In my dream!"
"You did?"
"Yes, I have."
"Really. That's strange."
"Why do you own such a car?"
"Ehh? It's not mine, it's my dad's, he told me he Is A Rotaraholic"
"Rota. . . A. . . Ra. . .Holic?"
"He came up with it, it means, Someone Who is Addicted to Rotary Vehicles."
"Oh. . ."
"So, ready for your ride?"
"Y. . . Yes."
We both got in the car, and before we started driving, he got out a map.
"We're going to a race circuit open for the public."
Now I felt safer, as it's not streets, like I thought it would be.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once we got there, he got to the starting line, and began revving the engine.
"I'll show you a fun experience, I promise, Maki-Chan."
He then said,
"Now!", and we rocketed off.
I yelled a bit.
"Ehh? Don't worry, you'll be safe, with me. . ."
I trusted him to keep me safe.
"I love this high speed section, then it comes to a corner."
"Huh?! Please, don't crash!"
The car got faster, and faster, as I got more freaked out. We then finally reached the corner. I held on tight, hoping we didn't crash.
Then a second corner came, he turned it well also.
"How was that chicane movement?"
"That was nice!"
"Have you ever heard of drifting?"
"What's that?"
"It's great fun, I'll show you."
He did a different maneuver this time, and I was scared, but it turned out perfectly, and believe it or not, it was fun.
"You look like you're enjoying this experience, here, I'll do it again."
"Alright!"
Again, it was smooth, and somewhat rather fun.
"Hey, another chicane."
"Ehh?"
"Don't worry.", he said, as he winked.
"Wow, it's so smooth, your cornering!"
"Do you like the drifting? Shall I drift again?"
"Yes!"
"Alright then."
His drifting was so well, for a 16 year old, that is.
"Time for another great drift!", he said, as another corner appeared in his vicinity.
"Hold on Maki-Chan, this will be a good one!"
I was a bit happy.
"Okay, that went good, now let's try on this corner!"
"Nice, I love your drifting!"
But I think he went to fast, as he went off the track a bit.
". . ."
"Phew, that was close, wasn't it?", he said, as we sped away.
"Yeah. . ."
He was acting as if it were nothing.
He then drifted again, and did a great job, well, according to what it sounded like.
"Great clipping point!"
But then after the car spun a bit, and we got very close to the wall.
"Damn! Don't crash!"
Then we got even closer, I shut my eyes.
"Please, FC, no. . ."
Luckily we evaded that possible crash, Ryou-San was relieved.
Phew. My dad would kick my ass if I crashed."
I laughed a bit, the next corner wasn't that well for drifting, so he took it normally.
The sky then turned cloudy.
"Maki-Chan, we may experience some rain, so, hold on."
And Ryou-San was right, it did begin to rain.
"Ryou-San, are you, good at drifting, in rain?"
He sat there, silently. He then finally replied. . .
"I suppose, we'll see, today."
The car began to slide, I held on very tightly, with a nervous look on my face.
"Don't worry, I'll maintain control."
Believe it, or not, he did. I was then relieved.
Then, his car began to go into the grass, he began laughing.
"Haha, that's hilarious."
He then proceeded back to the track, and remained calm.
"It's getting a bit boring, let's drift again!"
"Sure."
Unluckily, it started raining harder, and I worried.
"Ryou-San, please, don't crash."
"I won't, I promise!"
"I love this car, do you?"
"I guess. It's fast, beautiful, and nimble."
We went on, further, I never knew rain could be so fun.
"I never knew rain could be this fun!"
"Yeah, it's a great time, this moment."
He stared into my eyes for a quick moment, then continued driving.
"Yeah, I love this car."
Ryou-San actually smiled a bit, for the first time, even I smiled a bit.
He was in such a good mood, that the car began to spin out.
"WATCH OUT!"
He looked out the window.
"Huh?! No!"
He couldn't fix it, but luckily, he slowed down a bit, therefore, the car did a light bunt on the railing.
But surprisingly, he burst out laughing, but I was crying a bit.
"What's so funny?!"
"It's the fact that, I got so happy, and was careless. I've never felt that good, and since I crashed, I'm laughing."
"Oh. . ."
We both began laughing, for about 1 minute, then finally, I asked him something.
"Ryou-San, will you. . . be my friend?"
He turned his head, and stared into my eyes.
"O-O-O-Of course.", he said, with a faint smile.
After that, we talked and talked for awhile. . .
That's when I knew, it was a miracle to meet this boy, who everyone thought was dreaded. It was a miracle, to become friends with this boy. . .
Memories like this should never be forgotten.
The end.
