In one of the most stunning upsets involving Brazilians and Italians in Soccer since the 1982 World Cup-are you ready for this?

AC MILAN-the runaway favorites to win the UEFA Cup from the first second the first qualifying stage was announced-GOT BEAT IN THE ROUND OF 32 ON AWAY GOALS BY-ARE YOU READY FOR THIS-WERDER BREMEN!!!!!!! A SIDE TENTH-YES, TENTH-IN THE BUNDESLIGA!!!

WOW. just, WOW.

Now, I know Milan has struggled mightily in Serie A the last couple of seasons but they are (at the Moment I Type this) third in their league, behind Juve and Inter.

And, yes, I definitely know that Werder Bremen has at least been known to perform well in the European Competition.

but still, when you got players like Pirlo, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Pato, Beckham, and Pippo Inzaghi-players who change a course of a game with a stroke of their right foot-it's no excuse to lose to a bottom-dweller such as Bremen

First Bayern Munich last year, now AC Milan. why can't the opening line runaway favorite win this tournament? I mean, it happens (most of the time) in the Champions League.

so what do you think? Am I overblowing this or is this a huge upset? Give me your thoughts?

Actually, Werder Bremen has some pretty good players. Not surprised Milan lost since they've been really out of it this season.

It must be bothering them that Juve is back.

Btw:

April 22nd 2009: Hamburg - Bremen (German Cup)
April 30th 2009: Bremen - Hamburg (UEFA Cup)
May 7th 2009: Hamburg - Bremen (UEFA Cup)
May 10th 2009: Bremen - Hamburg (Bundesliga)

:)

I had the thought run through my mind as I watched Hamburg beat Man. City in that epically dramatic second leg of their Quarterfinal tie.

If Hamburg wins the final in Istanbul, will the announcer say "You want a UEFA Cup with that?"

:D

I LOL'd after the 1:3. The little paper ball on the pitch that caused the corner leading to the third goal for Bremen was part of a choreography performed by HSV fans. Irony of fate.
