Stupid Driver

She should have stayed on the far-right lane until reaching the off-ramp. Unbelievably idiotic move right there.

I am not surprised at the least that this occurred.

I actually constantly have this talk with my wife about going further and just turning around if we are in the wrong lane to exit. Even more so, if our speed is at cruising speed and card are closing in on us too fast we will not make the risk of slowing down too quickly. We just pass our turn/ exit / driveway whatever you have it. Being a resident in the "invincible behind the wheel" Connecticut I would rather risk extra time versus a situation where we could put ourselves in jeopardy. Around here this sort of accident I would expect to occur more often.

A huge percentage of drivers do not realize that they are in/ not in control of 1.5 ton steel cages that move faster then steel was every invented to move at. It is a total lack of respect that is given to these people movers. My biggest worry is once my daughter is of age to drive that she may run into this situation.

It is sad this occurred to the driver, but in the end a lack of sight, a lack of awareness, and a lack of respect for other motorists and her own car led to this occurring.

True. Still, these things should be designed for the most outrageously bad drivers.
The last thing I'd want to see on roads are even bigger trucks that take even longer to stop. You can only do so much.

If my car could play videos I'd have this one loaded at all times ready for the next time someone yells at me for not dive bombing an exit [that I can't get to because they told me to get into the wrong lane].

Amazed at this... Today while I was on my way to my afternoon class, I saw traffic was bunching up ahead and I started to slow from 80 to 70 so I could exit. The exit is sort of blind, as it takes a dive downhill and to the right for the right turn lane. Its normal for the right lane to back up as far as one mile +/- one more from the stop line.

Anyways, traffic seemed to slow much faster than it initially had, and every time when this happens I always look in my rear mirror to see if the idiot (I assume everyone is an idiot on the road, even my parents if they are driving separately beside me) had slowed down. He was coming in a bit hot and then I forgot to look back up to the front, almost clipped the car when I tried to get as close to the rail as I could so he had space as well. People around where I live think that a crash is no big deal, but as much as a rolling bump will annoy me. I have never caused, nor been touched by another car and I plan to never. I have had close instances but non were my fault.

I'll have to set up my camera to get some continuous shots tomorrow, but here is the map (The exit is from the top right to the bottom left. The search bar is where the exit begins, and backs up even further than that at times).

This woman however is extremely lucky. She's gonna have to understand you don't shoot aimlessly, nor do you drive aimlessly..

And you see the danger of driving to the car behind. In cases where you feel you might be at danger from vehicles behind all you can do is maintain the space in front and be prepared to navigate laterally if necessary. By over-monitoring their actions you increase the risk of missing a more dangerous action in front (a rear-impact is the best crash to have providing your forward area is clear).

And leaving a gap means people pull into it which is annoying, but that's life. Better than death/squishy-feet :)

That bar under the trailer is not a crash bar so much as a docking bumper when backing to a loading dock. It would not be possible to make one that didn't give from a 70-mph impact of something around 3000 pounds......

But talk about driving unsighted!!!!! A clear example of never pointing the car towards something you can't see.....

Yes I do understand that I distract myself too much by trying not to get in someone else's crash, but I don't want to deal with post-crash issues, no matter how light of one it may be.
Yesterday while I was driving home there was a woman constantly fixing her hair or stretching, couldn't tell, but she was all over the road. There was a dump truck ahead too which was letting debris all over the road so I wanted to stay at least 50 yards back. Woman is blaring on the horn while she is in the other lane while I'm about to turn into my subdivision... I guess it was taking too long to turn in?

some people... I just... it's not even worth describing..

THIS... it happens on the same ramp as people will lag behind. It's every man for himself trying to get off of this exit..

Yeah, I thought I watched some science channel about a Volvo tractor and it was pretty good in describing safety features. But either I am mixed up with something else, or the doc said that the bar can also be used as an emergency brake even while driving in case of a crazy man steals the rig..
I thought at first it would make sense when backing up to dock, as it would stop the trailer from too much damage, as most bars I see are all pretty banged up, but I'm not so sure it works while in drive like the doc showed it did..

Truck has a GCW of 40Tonne and is traveling at 38mph/60km/h, But this system can't defy the laws of physics due to someone not watching where they are going.
