How does the 22B stack up against the STi of the same year?

22B '98
2.2L
289 hp / 6,200 rpm
281 ft-lb / 3,000 rpm
1,270 kg
456 pp
Top speed @ Suzuka: 135 mph

STi '98
2.0L
279 hp / 6,500 rpm
260 ft-lb / 4,000 rpm
1,270 kg
455 pp
Top speed @ Suzuka: 136 mph

The 22B carries 9.69 lbs/hp vs. the STi's 10.04 lbs/hp.
The 22B has 131 hp/L vs. the STi's 140 hp/L.

Thus, the 22B will be faster, but the STi's engine is more efficient.

2:24.483 - Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STi Version V '98

Really not a huge difference. It's almost not worth owning a 22B over the standard STi, at least in real life.

Oh and both are standard cars. Some people want to see these cars disappear because they lack visual polish :dunce:

If I remember correctly, the 22B has a different transmission with much shorter gears. It was supposed to be like a road legal rally car right?

Yea if you watch both replays you can definitely see the 22B has much shorter gears.

Honestly though, I prefer the standard STi. Call me crazy.

Should just point out that the 22B was mechanically based (barring the engine) on the older Version IV Type R; which was the base model designed for amateur rally teams, hence the shorter gears.

Did not know that! So would it be better to compare the 22B to the Version IV STi?

Edit: The Version IV is a few tenths slower than Version V, if even that.

278 hp / 6,500 rpm
260 ft-lb / 4,000 rpm
1,250 kg
452 pp

It weighs 20 kg less than Version V, has the same hp and torque, but 1 less PP.

Technically it should be faster than Version V, but I can't make it happen.

I have a '00 2.5RS with a turbo siting in my driveway. loved racing that thing. Rear sway bar, coilover, sticky tires, all thats needed and the thing will eat any corner.

I would prefer this as a premium over my brother's brand new 2015 WRX, or both so we can race each other.

^ It's faster than the 22B by a few tenths last time I tested it.

276 hp / 6,400 rpm
268 ft-lb / 4,000 rpm
1,260 kg
455 pp

I need to double-check mine because I have it down as 276 hp but it may have come with a few more...Going to re-test either way, as I think 2:22 is possible.

Edit: 2:22 isn't possible with a controller unless you're God himself.

Revised specs are 285 hp / 6,500 rpm and the lap time is 2:23.494 or 0.065 seconds faster than the 22B.

It depends on two factors: How much you care about re-sale value (the 22B will be a future classic) and how much you like Initial D :P (two doors gives you nerd points).

It'd be best to compare all STIs of the time period. They did in Best Motoring :P

Also it's criminal that in a Japanese game those Subarus are some of the very worst model offenders of the whole game, the most "standard".
