Subwoofer is "Quiet"

I bought a Jbl PB-10 today. I tested it in my cousin's house, it worked fine. Then, I hooked it up to my system and now Its really quiet. I am 100% sure that its not my sub because i just tested it and it worked fine. Is it with the cable im using? Im using an average Red/White cable, is it too weak for my subs? Do i have to get a special "subwoofer" cable? My reciever is also putting out bass to the sub but its barely making any noise. I also have configured it. Do you think its with my Cable?

Reciever: Sherwood RD-6108

Btw. Sorry for whoring the electronics section with all these questions, but I dont even think barely anyone posts in this forum.

I take it that this is a powered sub? This means that what your sending to the sub is line level inputs, NOT POWER because the sub produces it's own power? Does the sub plug in into the wall as well?

Lets assume that it is a powered sub. What cable did you use at your cousins house? Try using the same cable that you have (the red and white one) at your cousins and see how it sounds. That would at least elliminate the cable. Next I would look at the "sub" level on your receiver. Next I would check the 'gain' level on the sub itself. Another questions, at your cousins...when it was "loud", what were you listening to? Does he have hard floors? Was the sub in the corner of the room? I'm just asking all these things to reduce all the variables since it did WORK louder at your cousins.

I highly doubt it's your cables.

I used some fat cables there, I dunno what they were. Anyways, the sub does work but i have to turn it up pretty loud to get a decent amount of bass. Its not really the positioning because there, the sub itself moved a lot more than it does now when i put it on lower volumes.

And the gains on the sub all maxed, the cutoff at 80hz, phase is normal, and the LFE on the on setting.

I guess its with the cables, but i wanted to make sure

I think Pako's hit on the issue here. You say you're using the Red/White cables. I assume they're the standard interconnects, as opposed to speaker cable.

BTW, those settings should make the sub sound awful. You want your cutoff (also known as rollof) to be much lower than that, I would say that the sub should handle everything from your mains frequency down. I guess for you that's 60Hz, but in the UK it's 50Hz. Subs aren't really meant to operate any higher than that.

When you say "the sub moved", do you mean the driver, or the cabinet? Because if it's the cabinet, you want to stop that if at all possible - it leads to a weakening or washing out of the sound.

So, is your sub mains powered?
