Due to taxes and other means of government provided evils, cars over here are extremely priced compared to other countries. And not going to carshows and stuff I don't get to get close to these cars. But - I changed today..

I did get to stand extremely close to a heavily modded Supra. All blacked out with windows so tinted you could barely see the seats (needed the gold wheels though). And I did get to chat a little with the owner*1. Told me the last set of rear tires lasted about a week.. Guess 700Bhp will do that ...

But I suddenly see what all the Supra fuss is about. That is one mean, sleek and beautiful car to behold..

*1 - Was a total a$$ though...

I was looking for used cars and came across a fourth geneartion Supra in TN, about 500 miles from here. It was a repo or a confiscation car, and the guy had a price listed of $1200.
I'm still kicking myself for not checking into it further.
As Streetracer managed to buy two cars at police auction for $100.
I may have to look into that as someone at work mentioned it yesterday...

DAMN dude you should have gotten that car
Between my wife, kids and job, I'm quietly biding my time.
I was looking at the Kansas City Star want ads yesterday (Sunday) and found a 1996 Corvette for $15,000.
So, I know it's a matter of patience and timing.:mischievous:

I was actually looking for a 1995-1998 Nissan 240SX, any color but red, no sunroof, and 5-speed.
Seems to be the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Damn Gil... calm down with the double clicking!

How do you go about getting into these auctions?
Sorry,
The d*** computer was loading REALLY slowly so I thought I stopped it and started over. I was wrong.
I don't know the specifics, but If you keep your eyes open and search the news paper want ads for auctions you should be able to find them.

Tell me about it. All the more sweet when you find a good one though. But hey I found one, and I'm in Canada! Check the classified sections at www.freshalloy.com and www.zilvia.net if you haven't already. Good luck! :)

Supras around here are:
$20,000 no turbo
$30,000 Twin Turbo
$40,000 Sunroof Twin Turbo Editions (Rare)

:)

Keep in mind these are AU prices, In American dollars this would be something like 60% of their price (conversion of the money rates)...

If you were in the neighbourhood I could help you with the kicking for not jumping that deal :D

Guys, Guys, remember that I live where it can get pretty slippery in the winter, and while I like the idea, I really don't NEED a high-powered RWD car from like October to March.
Hence the search for a stock 240sx. RWD yes, High power-no.
I MUST have NO sunroof as I am short-legged, but long torso'ed. The first good bump in the road would knock me unconscious in a sunroof equipped car.
As far as Supra prices jumping, that was destined to happen as less than 12,000 (total) fourth gen. Supras made it to the US. That's from 1993-1998. That averages out to about 2,000 cars for each model year.

Gil why not just get a V6 Camaro or Mustang? Lower powered RWD car and a lot cheaper then a Supra or 240sx. You could easliy pick up a used one in good conditions for next to nothing.

Both are on the "short list".
I am also considering two front drivers.
The ZX2 Escort from 2000 on. If they are anything like the '92 I'm driving now they'll still be "kickin' it" when I can afford a 'Vette.:lol
I also have a thing for the new Celica.
My uncle had a Corolla that lived for more than 300,000 miles. I figure the Celica is cute, w/o being too "girly" (unlike the 'Scort). It has aftermarket support. It isn't a gas guzzler. And my wife can't object too much, after all they are Front Wheel drive, and have that built in "Toyota Reliability" thing going on.

Go with what you're good at...
J/k
My father in law has a Metro, and I Need more than 4 hp to be happy.
To Street's dismay the car at the top of the "short list" is the 4th or 5th generation Honda Prelude. But they are just too expensive for what they are.
Of course, there is also a couple around the corner that is trying to get rid of an old 944.
They have a teenager that will want to drive it and they don't want him to get in over his head.
Since, I have six boys myself I have the same concerns.

hey with only 4 hp you can show your mad tuning skills!!!! lol I saw a geo metro with a 5 inch pipe, a type R logo and a VTEC sticker I almost crashed my car laughing my a$$ off! Another thing about metro's.......my boss has one and I'm always thinking of rolling the thing onto its roof every time she pisses me off. Oh and one more thing good luck with the kids and watch em cuz ofter all they are TEENAGE BOYS....poor guy insurance will kill you.

I know this guy, who got ahold of an EXTREMELY RARE 1969 dodge Daytona Superbird in a police auction. yeah, a superbird. dodge's winged wonder. the nascar-spec body, complete with aero nose, aero wing AND the rare 426 HEMI/4 speed option. and he got it for 200 dollars. IN MEXICO. In this car I saw my very first HEMI. I couldnt believe I was seein it in the rarest of the cars with the hemi engine.

Cano

I still cant believe it.

Damn he's one lucky son of a.....

Any ways Gil I'd say you'd be good in a 944. There quite the little car. A buddy of mine had one for a while, he let me drive it once but I just couldn't see myself in it. It is a little small and knowing your a big guy it might be a tight fit.

As for teenager we don't all drive like me...god help the world if we did. :D

Finally Gil a Prelude....*sigh*....walks away with my head hung low muttering why.....j/k. I think Preludes are the only Honda I might be able to stand.

Well, Street, 197 HP to the FRONT wheels, is just the ticket for me with the Prelude. Especially, come winter.
I just really like the looks of it and it has a fair bit of room inside. It seems to be the "thinking person's" sports car.
As a second choice I kinda like the Accord two-door. But it isn't available with the V-6 and a 5-Speed.

well ya I know to each is own right? Just as long as you don't put a huge wing on it the lude would look just fine :D

lol I just got an accord and the first thing I did was go to summit racing's website and buy a flowmaster exhuast system to laugh at all the ricers as I rumble by....I love flowmasters maybe you can get em for the prelude!

prelude looks the don, a guy outside my house has a modded one, debadged and tinted but not lowered, it looks great. but i just can't handle FF cars, i've been driving one for 4 years now and i want FR ;P

as for flowmaster, i just went to their website, they have an amazing wav that loads up when you open the site heh, they know just how to sell exhausts ;P you know if you can fit them to an m3/what it would sound like?

does anyone have any decent sound clips of exhaust sounds?

4cyl motor + flowmaster muffler = sounds like ****.
Hell, flowmasters sound absolutely terrible on V8's too.

I've got a friend with a Beretta GTZ w/intake, custom 3" exhaust, and some 40, or 80, or something, series flowmaster on it. Good God. It sounds so horrible. Way worse than any straight through import exhaust.

Hahaha people who try and make there 4 bangers sound like big old Chevy big blocks. Its funny as hell.
