Supsr Formula question

After all this time ive finally had a go at the SF races,not a fan of F1 type xars so new to me.
I understand the overtake button but when is it best to use it? I was expecting it to be a bit like a nitrous boost but doesnt seem to be.

For me only ever use it in 6th gear to help push me through that higher rev range and gain an extra 20kph or so (like the last weekly race)

@jonoholland29 Once ive got my head around the higher corneting speeds there pretty good fun.Like I said,ive no interest in F1 but these are a blast.

I use it if I am close to another car ahead of me, but not quite in their slipstream. I'll hit the overtake to get into their slipstream and then stop using it. From there, the slipstream helps me increase speeds and eventually overtake the AI car either on the brakes into the next corner, or on corner exit.
