The 370Z tuned challenge has the best of 2.47.841. I went to to give it a try and after many many laps im still 4 seconds slower. Now, even though im 4 seconds slower Im ranked 20th in my region and 74th in the whole USA. This is not possible. How can I be four seconds slower and still manage top 75 in the whole country??? the first guys are cheating, it is absolutely impossible to achieve those times, only with helps and they are "not" using them.
The GT academy isnt the best way to find good drivers since there is always people who manage to get impossible times! It just ruins the fun for everyone!:indiff:

I don't get the whole "he's way faster than me so he must be cheating" mentality.

As lefty says, download the top lap and see what he's doing before shouting "cheat".

yea, I don't think it's possible to cheat with this system. I'm currently at a 2:49.6xx...so, it's not impossible...some people are just really quick...

48.0 here. (FixByWire) I can see myself getting a 47.8 with some more practice, but the 47.4 in the whatever other region is FAST. Need to watch the replay to see if I am doing anything very different. Don't think I'll get that fast. Very nice time.

Welcome to the hard truth of GT..... There will ALWAYS be someone faster then you... And someone faster then those people... and so on... All I can say is deal with it and practice ;)👍

what tires do you have to use??

Comfort Soft tyres for the first one at Tsukuba
Comfort Soft tyres on Rome
Sports Soft tyres for Cape Ring

As pointed out by RedSuinit, I've edited this list.

Ever heard of 'Aliens'?

They are both despised and admired to the fullest by mere mortals... like me.

I think Mark from ClassicGameRoomHD said it best in his GT5 Academy review: "To the guys at the top 100 on the leaderboards, you're really good."

There will always be someone faster, it's just the nature of racing.

I would be a little careful of calling someone a cheat, as there is a good chance the game won't let them cut corners/wall ride etc. If you have a DS3 I would look to upgrade to a wheel and pedals if your really serious about getting faster.

I'm just outside the top 10 in the Northeast overall after doing about 20 minutes at the first 2 tracks last night. Honestly I don't think the Rome time is actually THAT fast. Soon we will see plenty of people in the 1:21's, IMO.

As for Cape Ring, I put down a 2:51.4 on my out lap, and then my wife came in...so obviously plenty of room for improvement there. It's a technical course where a small tweak in your line can lead to 5km/hr or even 10km/hr faster on a straight. THAT is where the time is. You think you might be running clean, but you really aren't maxing out the car.

@FixByWire - you are putting down some nice laps. Looking at your replay you could probably take off 0.2-0.3 in the first and second sectors of Cape Ring - I'm still trying to figure out which turns are faster with a higher slip angle, if any. It looks like you come flying out of that 360 turn. I wouldn't be surprised to see you in the mid :47's soon enough.

I almost had a 21, but I messed up the hairpin.:dunce: Think i"ll just let the times ride out abit.

Well, I managed to get top 15 at Tsukuba in the NE region last night after about 25 ~ 30 laps. Although, I'm sure my time has long since been superseded. (Does anybody know if you can check the times online anywhere?) I went back and forth with the traction control but ultimately decided it was quicker without it. I'm sure with some finesse I can get a few ticks less. But there's no way I can compete with guys like FixByWire. (wow) 👍 Respect!

I then went on to Rome, did about 15 laps and the game froze on me mid lap! :grumpy: I was able to quit back to the XMB and restart but was a bit miffed that it didn't post my time. At that point, it was late, I was tired and I couldn't be bothered running anymore. And I haven't even tried Cape Ring yet.

Part of the competition or not, it's nice to have leaderboards again. :)

Rome I can definitely see high 1:21's. Once people learn how to consistently get through the left hand kink at 88 mph then we will see times drop. The new time on Cape is a 2:47.0. It was almost unbelievable until I watched the replay and found out that there is a ton of time to gain by going off track.

Be very VERY careful about calling "cheat!" just because somebody is faster than you. For a combined time of 3 tracks, 4 seconds isn't that big a difference. It only takes a fraction of a second in every corner to make up 4 seconds.

I used to be accused of cheating at HSR because I had found a very fast line (way different than the normal line).

And even if there was something shady going on, the replays are right there for all to see, so how long do you think it would take before they were disqualified?

I will say this, coming out of the 15 apex right handed there is the very quick left and it is kind of wrong to jump the grass into pit exit. That alone probably saves a few tenths at least. Other than that there is no way to cheat, and even then it isn't really cheating because anyone can do it. Personally, I'm going to wait and see how the other local alien approach this turn before I take that route.

If you're four seconds slower and still in the top 100, that means that most of those guys past, say, Top 50 or so, aren't quite in the same class as the Top 10.

Back in GT5P, I'd often be surprised to find myself in the Top 10 or Top 20 for a particular leaderboard after an update. Not because I'm a particularly bad driver... but because I'm a DualShock user. Then when everyone else gets in, I'd still be in the top 100, but two to three seconds off of the Top 20 times.

There are people who will be faster. Then there will be people who are annoyingly precise and metronomic. Who will use every spare nanometer of track, turn in at precisely the right nanosecond with precisely the right steering angle and braking to make a turn. Watching these replays will make your jaw drop. They drive like robots... but as far as I know, nobody makes robots that interface with PS3 wireless controllers. At least, not yet.

If you're perfectly willing to throw away a few weeks of your life and immerse yourself in just one challenge for eight hours a stretch, I suppose you could beat them. Me? I'm not that suicidal.

After about 10 laps, I'm trying to figure out:
Are you in 2nd or 3rd through T1a/b?
In T1a/b do you go beyond the rumble strips to the outside in the middle of the corner?

I did a 1:22.5ish? (IDK exactly - check the board), and that was with 3rd gear and not going beyond the rumble strips, but not that fast...some sliding. I think there's about .2 or .3s for me in that section, 5+ km/hr that i could carry through that next tight turn onto the long straight heading toward the Colosseum. Also still trying to figure out how to carry a little more speed through the final section.

Either way, when I get home from work in 9 hours I'll have to work on Cape Ring...

I was in 3rd with no sliding that I remember of. I need to get that hairpin right.:grumpy:

Hell yeah! Dub V represent! I am ecstatic to see some fellow Mountaineers on top of the leaderboards.

Montani Semper Liberi :)

I have to say, if we were not able to download the top ghost time I do not think I would make it very far in this competition.

Yea I watched that to. Iam on the fence really of doing it or not. Id rather not jump any rumble strips cause I hate how it makes my wheel jerk. Ill wait and see what people do and if it comes to it then, 'cant beat em join em".

Does anybody know where we can get an online leaderboard for this event?

I would like to see the board on the computer when away from the PS3.

The website didn't have one that I could find so a link would be nice if anyone knows it.

Thanks!
