I've hit #50 today. That Daihatsu VGT is quite fun, if you avoid stabbing the gas pedal until the car is pointed straight. It understeers worse than any other FF in the game. BMW's i3 is another interesting one I urge everyone to try out. It's faster than the MX-5 around the track, at the moment. Volkswagen's Sambabus is a snail, as you all undoubtedly know. It takes almost a minute and a half to complete the circuit.

We need to petition Polyphony to add Midfield Raceway NOW, as a special project, so you can get your legendary lap times up and running

Somehow I don't think PD would listen :D They have more iconic tracks to worry about first, anyway.

I'm almost at 60 cars. It appears the Bugatti Veyron is king of the N-class cars. The LaFerrari is just too much of a handful to be King of Suzuka. I also added the Shelby Cobra. Best-sounding car in the game I think.

I think Bugatti Veyron and Ferrari Enzo are two best N-class cars i got the same time with them on Nurburgring with super soft racing tyres.

70 cars have been baselined! Every N-category car as far as I know is on the list. If I'm missing any, please let me know! I've done a couple non N-category cars as well out of curiosity.

The Chaparral is INSANE. I was mad I couldn't crack the 40 second barrier but when I get around to really working on that one, I know I will eventually...GT-R LM Nismo is another madhouse of a car...

Finished the first test. After 21 laps in the Volkswagen Sambabus, my best lap is 1:27.023 or just 4 tenths faster than my baseline. Was it worth spending 30 minutes to gain only 4 tenths? Well, I'm not sure. Would've been nice to get a 1:26 though...Anyone up for the challenge?

Second test, the Toyota S-FR. Gave it my best shot and ended up less than a tenth slower than my baseline, so my original best lap time is finalized.

Third and final test for this week, the Mazda MX-5. My baseline was 1:05.0xx and after some excruciating laps searching for the best gear and line, I destroyed that time by 1.2 seconds. I found redlining 4th gear at the end of the straight instead of shifting into 5th saves a slight amount of time.

What's more interesting is that the S-FR and MX-5 are separated by only 0.011 seconds. Is that insane or what? The S-FR is so much more stable and therefore easier to lap consistently than the MX-5 which loves to oversteer if you're not careful!

I'm saving all the best lap replays and eventually I'll start uploading them to Youtube.

That's all for now until possibly Sunday!

Snow day today so I spent a half hour with the Suzuki Swift. Now all four N100 cars have been tested, and here are the results!

1:03.870 - Mazda Roadster S (ND) - 128 hp - 111 tq - 2,183 lbs
1:03.881 - Toyota S-FR - 133 hp - 111 tq - 2,315 lbs
1:05.780 - Suzuki Swift Sport - 123 hp - 109 tq - 2,337 lbs
1:27.023 - Volkswagen Sambabus Typ 2 (T1) - 33 hp - 61 tq - 2,414 lbs

So the Swift is 2 whole seconds slower than the ND and S-FR, while the Sambabus is the slowest of the group by over 21 seconds!

Ha, didn't noticed you started your tests ! Still in the process of choosing a track for myself. Seems like you didn't lost time !

I'm obsessed with this stuff and I don't know why! Have you narrowed down your track choices? Do you want real or fantasy? Long or short?

I've just wrapped up the N200 category cars. Took me forever to test the Alfa 4C. With no aids it can be quite tricky to maneuver Suzuka's esses without losing the back end. I wasn't going to be satisfied until I hit 58 seconds, and it felt so good when I finally did it.

0:58.840 - Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition
1:01.575 - Toyota 86 GRMN
1:02.266 - Renault Sport Clio R.S. 220 EDC Trophy
1:02.383 - Toyota 86 GT
1:02.692 - Peugeot 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport
1:02.988 - Citroen DS3 Racing
1:03.041 - Volkswagen Golf VII GTI
1:03.797 - Peugeot RCZ GT Line
1:04.463 - Mazda Atenza Sedan XD L Package
1:05.502 - Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4 T Sport

Nearly 7 seconds separates the fastest N200 from the slowest. Clio R.S. is the fastest FF N200 by 4 tenths of a second. The modified Toyota 86 GRMN is 8 tenths quicker than the base car. Alfa Romeo takes both the top and bottom spots in the N200 category. That MiTo is trash. Stay away!

Sunday will begin N300 trials! Stay tuned :dopey:

About the tracks, I'm really consistent on the Nurburgring GP and Bathurst (but it emphasizes power too much), but I like the layout of Interlagos a lot. Also, I kinda want to do a run on one of the smaller Willow Springs tracks. Current fantasy tracks, meh, I don't know, they're not hyping me as much as the old ones, but Yamagiwa or Alsace might do the trick.

About the Alfas, I thought from the start both should not be in the N200 class. The MiTo would fit better in N100, and the 4C obviously should go in a higher class.

N300 category has been thoroughly tested. And the results are as follows:

N300
0:56.288 - KTM X-Bow R
0:58.969 - Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II Nur (R34)
0:59.406 - Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (R32)
0:59.535 - Audi TTS Coupe
0:59.681 - Subaru WRX STI Type S
0:59.686 - Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD)
0:59.930 - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Edition
1:00.303 - Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track
1:00.667 - Honda Civic Type R (FK2)
1:01.396 - Renault Sport Megane R.S. Trophy
1:01.580 - Ford Focus ST
1:01.817 - Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible (C3)

X-Bow has more than a 2.5 second advantage over the rest of the field. R34 GT-R is only about half a second better than the R32. Audi's TTS surprised me by being quicker than the WRX STI and Evolution, but then again it is a couple hundred pounds lighter. RX-7 almost ties the STI. Focus ST and the Megane are pretty evenly matched here, and the classic Corvette doesn't lag far behind them.

I'll probably have the N400's knocked out by this time on Tuesday.

Wow

Not a track I like (I prefer full Suzuka) but love the commitment. It’s very interesting.

My T300 and wheel stand arrive this weekend so I’m looking forward to getting going with that and might do something like you’ve done. Probably not as fast, but fun none the less.

I also prefer full Suzuka but I have a bit of OCD and if I miss the apex at the final corner after having a perfect lap, it ruins my mood. With a short track like this, I can easily shrug off a bad lap and have a successful lap in less time.

I look forward to your future time trial thread! You're going to love the T300. I used to have a G27 and this wheel is so much better.

N400's are now finished! As expected, the Ford truck comes in last by a wide 1.3 second margin. The track-ready Toyota S-FR is 8 seconds faster than the base car. The Mustang is over 2 seconds quicker than the Raptor, slotting it between the R32 and R34 Nissan GT-R's. I'm about to start testing N500's and am excited to see how the Camaro SS and Corvette Stingray stack up.

I don't work on Tuesdays or Sundays so I spent most of this morning and the afternoon attacking Suzuka. Managed to test all the N500's and I'm officially exhausted. I tested the Porsche last, and what a treat that car is. I'm a believer in the RR drivetrain layout. I high-fived myself when I made it into 54 second territory. Same with the F40 which is almost exactly one second slower. Shelby Cobra is faster than the C7 Corvette by about one second as well. Camaro is over one second faster than the Mustang GT.

I left out the Citroen GT and the other Road Cars for now until I conclude N1000 trials.

N500
0:54.975 - Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991)
0:55.952 - Ferrari F40
0:56.557 - Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG GT S
0:56.850 - Shelby Cobra 427
0:57.751 - Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (C7)
0:58.134 - Chevrolet Camaro SS
0:58.475 - Lexus RC F
0:58.815 - Lexus LC500

I should have N600's completed by next Tuesday.

At the risk of being off topic, have you done any laps of the full Suzuka?

I’m using the Audi TT Cup Gr 4 (I think?) on BoP on a time trial.

Just got my wheel stand so getting to grips with it. Clocked a 1m10secs flat with all aids off except ABS at default. If you have done full lap, what times you getting in a similar car? Intrigued as to how good or bad my time is. Managed to match my controller time within 10 laps which I didn’t expect!!

I haven't done any testing at the full Suzuka Circuit...yet...

If you click the link to my Google spreadsheet in the first post, I've tested the Audi TT Cup Gr.4 and my time was 0:57.776 with Sport Hard tires. If you're using the same tires, then you're around 12 seconds slower.

I’ll take a look cheeers

Also, my time is for the full circuit, but it’s 2m10 haha not 1m! Typo error

No surprise on GT3 RS, since the car's rear wheel steering is truly effective at keeping that car always tucked in line.

The real surprise is the F40. It's a very capable car and can still humiliate modern supercars even in GT Sport's physics.

Great work on the lap times.

I’m 0.7 secs slower than you in the Audi TT Cup 16 after 10 laps.

I need to get used to the lack of grip on these tyres haha

Suspect I’m losing a lot of time in the last corner entry and exit

And that run was only a baseline. I can probably chop it down another half a second at least. Yeah the last corner is what messes up most of my runs. Actually all of the corners can be a problem :D

It's finally Sunday and I plan to race against myself for most of the day. The last 4 days at work left me too exhausted for this kind of work. If only I could make money doing this

Please don’t chop it down another 0.5 lol let me get close first haha I’m basically 2% behind you if you do chop it down. Which isn’t that horrific considering I don’t drive that last corner ever, or use those tyres and BoP is off so the car is different to what I’m used to as I lose about 30% power with BoP on.

Enjoying it given I’ve probably done 40 laps in total with the wheel. Nice to benchmark someone too

N600 and N700 are done, with the exception of the Chevrolet Nova. I want all the "mass-produced" cars tested first. The others might go on a separate spreadsheet. I have 3 N800 cars and 1 N1000 car left which I will hopefully get around to on Tuesday.

N600
0:55.848 - Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4

N700
0:55.556 - Ferrari Enzo Ferrari
0:55.826 - McLaren 650S Coupe
0:57.773 - Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat

I may have to re-test the McLaren 650S because it shouldn't be only 1 tenth quicker than the MP4-12C...right?

Viper is over 1.5 seconds faster than the Corvette.

Hellcat ties the Corvette (!!!!)

Spreadsheet has been updated.

N1000 is complete. The king of N-category cars is officially the LaFerrari.

N1000
0:53.770 - Ferrari LaFerrari
0:54.708 - Bugatti Veyron 16.4

53 seconds is wild. To avoid oversteer, I found 5th gear to be ideal for almost the entire track, with 6th necessary on the straightaway. Using 1st-4th gears is not advised.
