Wondering if anyone can help me out here, what's the best car to use for the Retro Masters. The AE86 just blows every car away.
Darren McNamara's car is rated at 1510.
So in order to have parity with his hardware, you'll want an similar PI on you car. I used an FD RX-7 with a motor swap rated at 1395. No works and LVL1 body kit just too keep it interesting for myself.
In the game, D-Mac is a quick driver but like all the AI drivers in S2U, leaves tons of room in the braking zone. The key to beating him is to stay with him on the opening lap as you move your way past the other cars and then find an opportunity to make the pass on the brakes. Usually you can do this end of the first lap or beginning of the second, coming off the main straight.
One nice thing about his AI routine is that he is a clean driver and displays none of the moronic aggressiveness many of the other AI drivers show. He won't ram you off the track under virtually any circumstance. That means you won't have to deploy any of the usual hyper-defensive measures you normally need with a fast AI. In addition, you can play quite dirty with him without fear of retribution... if that is how you like to roll.
Honestly, if SMS would just copy his AI routine and paste it to every single AI driver, I would be in heaven playing this game. But instead you are forced to drive with 'life-like human AI'... if the humans happen to be homicidal sociopaths and idiots besides...
Anyone can throw money at a car and beat him with eleventy-billion horsepowers. But if you want to challenge yourself and beat him as a good driver, then build a car near 1500 and upgrade your skills instead.
I would suggest doing multiple practice laps of all the tracks in the series. There should be a target time for each track (it is listed as a event goal during each race). Try beating it in a solo time attack. Once you can do this, you should have no trouble winning the events.
Trust me, beating the AI, even in a slower car is not very tough once you improve your driving. Friend some people in Autolog and compare their times with your own (with similar cars of course). If that doesn't get your competitive juices flowing, nothing will.
If you're on PC, hit me up in Autolog. AvusSilber.
