Page 9 - The Plan
Time to end this nonsense. Street racing never really gave me accomplishment after all. Yet why a lot are enjoying them?
Meanwhile, Takanori has heard of his twin's stunt over the radio.
(Background Music starts here)
Takanori: "All right! Now, show no mercy!"
Sam observes the sudden reaction from the 25-Second Club's members, and as well as Takanori's outburst.
Sam: "As usual, the very energetic Takanori. But he's more than just a moral support. He has the potential too. Those club members, on the other hand, have no idea who they're messing with...
...and never really accomplished anything. They may be the fastest in Osaka loop, but that's all what they are. They just live by it."
Tomoyuki: "I fell for it. Never realized he's just playing with me. I thought he uses a direct approach in his circuit races!"
Try keeping up...
...if your car's engine can.
Tomoyuki: "He's not just drifting! It's even a fast cornering!"
Start of third lap! I'll end this once and for all! I just don't really feel winning a street race, you know?
Seeing the two cars pass by, Takanori cheers louder.
Takanori: "I don't care if I'm being noisy! Beat 'em to a bloody pulp!"
Tomoyuki: "What's the matter, my FD?!? Why aren't you keeping up?!? You are the fastest Rotary around the loop! You're even as fast as Kenichi's R33!"
Tomoyuki sees Takuma's FD flickering while cornering. His eyes couldn't keep up with that car's cornering speed.
Tomoyuki: "Even my eyes couldn't keep up!"
Tomoyuki: "Okay, I'll just accelerate out of the corner, to take advantage of the ported engine! Then that would shorten the gap!"
He proceeds as planned, but... he suddenly hears judders from the engine.
Tomoyuki: "What?!? The engine!"
All right, fourth lap... wait. Why did Tomoyuki stop? Something wrong? Anyways, I decided to be a Good Samaritan for tonight.
Takanori: "Eh??? Why make a u-turn?"
We got out of our cars.
Tomoyuki: "Why are you here? You should just take this race."
Takuma: "I'm sure you must know that I don't find any sense of accomplishment in winning a street race. I treat this as just a run."
Tomoyuki: "Just a run?"
Takuma: "I wasn't even giving my all here. If you do want to see me in full swing, then go to a race track."
Tomoyuki: "No wonder you made that fabulous speech when you defeated Jintei."
Takuma: "What seems to be the problem?"
Tomoyuki just popped the hood. I do help fellow Mazda Rotary owners. I returned my car for a bit and got a wrench and wore my gloves.
Takuma: "Let me just check."
The engine may seem normal, but it really isn't. I can tell. I am the Rotary Meister after all.
Takuma: "I see the problem. And I am just appalled. If you are considering yourself as the Rotary Meister, then why aren't you considering the fact that Apex Seals can wear out?
Tomoyuki: "Just as I suspected."
Takuma: "That's the price you pay for overly tuning a delicate engine. Too much boost pressure, along with the Peripheral Porting make the Apex Seals fail even faster. Peripheral Porting is indeed a great way of increasing power of a Rotary, but it is only useful for race track use. It isn't really helpful on a street race, wherein the engine will struggle picking up after powering down from cornering in twists and turns.
That is precisely why my FD's engine is focused on balance. How ironic, my FD is suited very well for the streets, yet can hold its own on a race track too.
If you're proclaiming yourself as a Rotary Meister just because you take pride of your FD's abilities, then consider yourself a failure."
There, I said everything that needs to be said. Time to head back.
Takuma: "I don't consider this as a win in my part. So don't feel bad, and besides, I felt the same way you're feeling right now."
I can pity him, because the same thing happened to me when I raced against Yuki. My precious FD became handicapped, until a miracle happened. But an Apex Seal failure is something that cannot be recovered by a mere miracle.
Takuma: "Hop in, little shrimp. Let's head back."
Takanori: "Okay. I'm getting sleepy, anyway."
Sam: "Interesting conclusion, indeed. The truth is, Takuma and I share the same sentiment when it comes to street racing."
After walking for a few minutes, he enters in a parking building. In just among the few cars sitting in there, he approaches the R390.
Then he gets its keys, and then enters the car. He starts it up.
Sam: "Everything is going on as planned. I have really intended to lure out the twins, and just used the interview as a bait. The truth is, I want to race them. I want to see how I stack up against some real racers! I am seeing that they are not just motoring journalists! They really are from the Dream Alliance, no doubt.
But more importantly...
...I am cleansing Osaka from this dirt. Street races make the loop dirty. Come on, Takuma... let us cleanse the Kanjou loop!"
With that, the car leaves the parking building, leaving a loud noise echoing the rather sleepless city.
