TALK RADIO...who do you listen to?

Lex and Terry suck
I'll elaborate on that and say they just aren't funny; they're just boring, almost Imus-like. Just because a lot of hicks and morons call up for relationship advice doesn't mean you're a beacon of light to the community, nor particularly witty. Lex and Terry don't even try to back up any of their reasoning with facts, if it's an argument about anything factual, either (which pretty much sums up most radio talk shows, anyhow).

Yet, they were the only decent morning talk-radio in town in Gainesville, sad to say.

I’ll usually listen to Kevin & Bean in the morning when I drive to work/school. And throughout the day, I’ll just put NPR on when I get tired of my CDs.

I do try to catch Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! on NPR (love this show) when it comes on, though…if not, then there’s always the podcast. 👍

Way back in the day, and by way back I mean 6 or 7 years ago, I used to listen to Don & Mike, Ron & Fez and Opie & Anthony on 102.7 WNEW NY. (Now they're Jack FM or Free FM or some crap, not talk anymore) O&A are still around, obviously, but they blow now.

Edit: All 3 are still around. But I don't listen to the radio anymore, and I'm going to assume they all suck.

So... nobody likes Michael Savage?

I listen to The Zionist Conspiracy, Prager and Medved. Although Medved's guests and callers really upset me sometimes, it's still beneficial to understand the enemy, even if that understanding leaves me in stunned incredulity. But At least Medved gets the Left on the air and talking/arguing. Nobody can say they have no voice. But man do they ever bare it all and look stupider, and more dangerous, than any conservative could ever make them look.

Dennis Prager is just a great thinker and not always political (even though I like it when he is because I agree with him most of the time). I enjoyed his shows on Bees, womens shoes, history authors, and I especially appreciate his discussions of male/female relations. He can be a bit pontificatory at times, but aren't we all?

Sean Hannity is annoying. His voice just annoys me. And that "great american" thing is stupid. How does he know all these people are great americans?

Rush is annoying, too. He's too much of a big shot celebrity now. Lacks depth.

Laura Ingraham's show can be so funny at times, but she can be very shrill and a lot like a female Michael Savage which is embarassing.

Air America is paranoid and comprised primarily of lies and vitriol. It literally nauseates me. It is also disappearing.

Tsk.

I wonder why Air America is dead? Hmmm. People don't want to listen to bull **** all day.

That's only part of their problem. While your comment might refer more to their politics (I can't be sure) the issue is more that the rhetoric is directed at making fun of Bush while rarely offering any alternatives as far as ideas and plans go. Conservative talk show hosts have maintained an entertaining style while staying on topic and not making it "bash the Democrats" for three hours.

The other problem Air America has, which leads into the first and is something I saw coming from the beginning, is that they did not hire radio talent or proper political pundits. They hired out of Hollywood and tried to bring people in with the star power. This has been a trend in a lot of talk radio lately and it isn't working. These people don't have the time or will that it takes to put together a talk radio show. Everyone they hired has another job first and this is their second job. Due to this their research isn't thorough and their arguments aren't sound. In the end they just sound like angry snobs on a rant.

Say what you want about the Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys of the world, but in the end their radio show is their career and they put the time and effort in that is required. Air America would have been better served going with a bunch of nobodies with local talk shows that were dedicated to their radio program and nothing else.

Besides, Democrats have Congress and think they will get the White House. When they can't bash Bush any longer then what will they do on their shows?

Air America's failure is less about politics and more about style and professionalism.

Why would anyone want to listen to anyone else talk about their life and opinions etc? I always have thought that holding a useful and entertaining conversation meant I did all the talking. But my animosity towards talk radio probably comes from probably the only one I was exposed two: two crass middle aged men who alternated between complaining about their vehicles and spouting what I'm sure they thought were witty anecdotes. Is anecdotes even the right word?
