I can attest to the time zone glitch helping a great deal while starting out. The faster you can get 200%, the faster you can do the seasonals. I think the non-AE seasonals pay over 5mil with 200%, and that right there is enough to get yourself a decent garage of the well-used drag cars.

Shift the time zone of the PS3 to a zone right before midnight, wait for it to turn midnight to collect the bonus, then shift to the next earliest time zone before midnight, and repeat. In 4 hours you can get 200%, but you have to wait for the internet clock to hit midnight, as changing the time manually doesn't work.

To be honest, I'm just not into drag racing like I used to be. I got GT6 and thought that drag racing would be easy as I'd be able to tune in the same way as GT5 and use the same/similar tunes. I was very wrong, causing me to be slow, which has given me negative feelings towards drag racing, so I've not tuned anymore cars.
If I could have some SERIOUS help to get me going, I'll be more than happy to drag race, and try to be the best, but that major set back has just put me off.

I'd just like to get a few of the commonly used cars together first, just so I can learn the similarities and differences with GT5 and GT6.

It's not a huge change from GT5 to 6, some suspension differences & higher horsepower, that's really it. The only major difference is not having a speed test now, which makes dialing in a tune harder but, otherwise, it's just the same old methods of test & tune on Indy or Route X. Give tuning another try, you'll get the hang of it soon enough.

McLaren MP4, TommyKaira ZZII, Ferrari FXX, Pagani Hyuara are all some of the fastest at the strip, and most of them run equal to or beat a tuned Black Edition. The Supra got a big bump in horsepower and runs a lot faster than GT5, but the duo of new Mustangs are faster. ZR1 Vette runs a lot faster, Z06 is faster than GT5 but can't run with the ZR1. ACR is now one of the slowest Vipers; apparently it doesn't hook up as well as it did. Those are some of the faster cars running the strip.
As for nitrous, I don't use it. I don't even tune for it anymore. The difference in power between on & off bottle is astounding, and I personally think it's broken to use it. Cars that hit 135 or 140 at the shadow are hitting mid to high 160s with nitrous, and one car with under 600 horsepower can reach well into the 170s with just a 50% shot. Now put that power into a Black Edition and you get something that a Veyron can't touch unless it runs Nitrous as well.
