Because if we did a poll everyone would just pick the style of drifting that they like. The system we use now is universal and applies to all styles. Also having an experienced judging panel is alot better than some Initial D freak picking the coolest looking AE86.

Agreed. This is exactly why we have judges. Not just any member is qualified enough to judge. You have to understand all the techniques, and styles of drifting, to be a good judge. I think the way we have it now, is the most fair. ;)

Noted - so for this reason why not give the judges the majority vote 60% because of their expertese... and 40% for the members. I think the input of members are important (and this can also be limited to members with for example more than 500 posts) who can participate in the vote. New members might not be so clued up as to what is a good drift or not.

And not every member likes the same car or style of drifting - that's known as deversity and individuality.. and IMO will be a true reflection of what this forum would consider as the someone being the good/best drifter :)

I saw it from your point of view, then I said to myself, our way is better. If you can't understand why, then just keep it to yourself.

BTW... Why'd you pull out of GTPDC?

1. I like ID, and happen to prefer the R32 over the AE86.
2. There are no AE86's competing.

I'm glad that you could see it from my point of view - atleast... :odd:

Yes.. I will keep to myself - from now on - and this applies to your question about me pulling out aswell - i will keep that to myself :D

Catch, just look at every other sport that is decided by a vote. They are all decided by a panel of judges. The panel of judges is comprised of people that are experts in the sport. Furthermore, the points that are judged on, have nothing to do with personal opinion. They are reprasentative of the basic elements of drifting, and what makes a well performed drift. I hope you can understand this, and why did you leave the GTPDC?;)

suprafly, i got a music video(tainted doughnuts) that u might like it includes

Damn straight about that.

What you are suggesting is in a way ideal. But as people have mentioned, there are many problems with it.

One... you will not get a consistent voting pool that you do with a panel, which means that in close battles, many times the forums vote for winner will be scewed...

I have to go but i will be back to discuss this later... infact i may even make a thread about it...

I see what you mean.. and I'm really not trying to flame or anything (honest!), but you are refering to real life - and this is more like a community type of setting which can make it more feasable... but thanx for the explination - just wanted to know why the judging is the way it is :) And also, one should always look at different ways of approaching things - that's just the law of evolution :)

Excellent - I'm surprised to find that there is so little feedback on this matter... Anyway, it will be greatly appreciated if you can explain things to some of us regarding this issue bengee.

OK i will now elaborate on why using a poll is inferior to a consistent panel of judges.

1. if a poll is used the group of people who decide who is winner is in no way consistent. Basically if certain people vote sometimes but not others, the votes then are scewed in a different way each competition. This is bad for preserving the accuracy of the method of judging.

2. People do not have to vote by actually calcualting scores, all they do is pic what vid they like best... could be music, car, lots of random things that have nothing to do with drifting skill.

3. There is no way to regulate who can vote in a poll, and thus no way to assure that the individuals voting are not coming on another screen name and voting again, and no way to assure that the individuals involved do not vote.

3. Team affiliations cannot be restricted and thus teams can vote for their own teammates and scew the results in that way.

4. I have thought about it long and hard, and a panel is the way to go.

Maybe the best way to compromise is to have a larger panel...

Exactly, and I think we could use more judges IMO. ;)
