GTMSA Presents

The Tour of GT4

Stage 3: Costa di Amalfi

Time Trial

Deadline 11.59pm GMT Sunday 29th August

picture.php

For Stage 3 we move away from the wet weather of Tsukuba and to the glorious Italian coastline of the Costa di Amalfi. A real challenge awaits the drivers here as the track is twisty, dusty and very fast! Enjoy 👍

Feel free to discuss sector times but please don't mention final lap times.

General Information and Regulations

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by TGT4 sanctioning body, GTMSA. Any and all questions should be directed to GTMSA officials (namely me ABud) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manner.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by GTMSA for each round.

  • Standard Online Racing Rules Apply.
  • No Cheating, hybrids, etc. You must run the car specifications I give you
  • Try keeping at least 2 wheels on course. Long races = small mishaps, but absolutely NO shortcuts
  • No wall-riding as well. Combined with penalties, this will slow you down considerably, so don't do it.
  • All decisions by GTMSA officials are final
  • Curbs/rumble strips count as track

If a driver doesn't manage to submit a time for a particular stage a penalty time will be assigned, calculated as follows:

110% of the slowest time.

Eg. If the slowest time is 19'25.346 the penalty time for all non submitting racers will be:

21'00.365

Also if a driver joins the series part way through their GC time for the races missed will be calculated in the same way

"oldmodelt sets his mind 💡 on getting a Blazing Pace and knows Austin343 will get a chuckle remembering a past race series."

Got splits for this one already:

T1 39.978
T2 1'05.402
T3 1'39.924

This combo is great fun, the Lotus being so light around the corners :D Only problem has been I keep tagging walls on my laps so getting a clean one in is tough. I reckon there's a fair bit of time left on track too but it's all about missing the walls!

As usual, I've already spent a while on this one, and although my current best lap is just fine, I've wasted several better ones by botching braking points late in the lap. In particular, I was on pace to finish one lap more than half a second ahead, and then I got both the braking and the turn-in wrong for the corner right before T3 and drove straight into the outside wall.

This track has an alarming number of invisible walls that don't really seem to correspond with their visible locations, the most egregious example being the fencing on the right-hand side in the vicinity of the start-finish line, but with plenty of others to back it up. I've also never gotten fully accustomed to the very weird shape of most of the turns, each of which requires some care and forethought to complete quickly without being surprised when you've contacted the outside wall at a 30 degree angle, as I have many times. :dunce: They all require unique and often counterintuitive lines, which I'm happy to describe if anyone is interested - I just don't want this to turn into a mega-post for right now. :dopey: For example, in the final super-narrow hairpins, you'll want to use first gear (!) for the first one and shift to second just as you brake for the second one, thereby giving you the best acceleration on the short straight and saving a shift where it would be the most costly.

Anyway, my splits are 38.706 - 1'03.421 - 1'36.705. ABud, I assume that we can have all four tires on the hard but not tarmac-colored area exiting the last turn, and that we can't knock over the cones right before T3?

Also, if this track is "very fast," then what's La Sarthe?

Yeah that's right. Basically if it ain't a wall you can drive on it :) Hmm, 3 secs behind again... Back to the drawing board!

time submitted. i missed the last race but managed to get a few laps in for this one. i think my fastest lap was the only clean lap i did. :)

Time submitted as all my equipment is at the LAN meet @ Smallhorses house!

GL to all.

Submitted with splits:

T1 39.331
T2 1'04.596
T3 1'39.323

G'Day all.
I am liking this car & the challenges ABud is designing.
I felt I did pretty well here, even though made a complete hash of a couple of corners, the very last one being particularly embarrassing :embarrassed:
Clean as a whistle though 👍

I have been producing some vids and ( very ) slowly uploading them. Here is my Tsukuba effort -

Aiming to get my tour of the Amalfi coast up soon.
Looking forward to the dirt rounds :)

Catch y'all next round.

Thanks, Mark. :) I wasn't really happy with that lap, considering that I found better lines around many of the corners and often improved on the execution, but I ran out of ability and patience to piece together all of what I had learned. :grumpy: A 2'05.5 was definitely possible, and I wish that I had been successful in that regard. I think I've been driven by hypercompetitiveness by too many back-and-forth efforts for license test records with holl01 and company. :dopey:
