This link takes you to the "World's Greatest Android Projects." The site was updated with the Repliee Q1 as the 21st greatest android project. The greatest one of all is one of my favorites, ASIMO. Toyota made a sort of ASIMO rival with their SUITE robots, designed to aid the elderly.
I don't know if you read this, but the Repliee Q1 is very responsive. I think the android can sense something like a slap to the face. I think it makes gestures as well. A lot of people are very creeped about this, to me, I feel like "I can't believe this thing." I'm not exactly freaked out about these androids. What it does serve is that someone successfully made androids that don't look like mannequins from a JCPenney, Foley's, Macy's, Charlotte Russe, Sak's Fifth Avenue, or any other department store chain. I'd have to imagine if there were androids actually modelling out the clothing. Can you imagine shopping for clothes and see this android model posing and showing off the clothes it's wearing? I'm a guy, so imagine if I was looking for some twill pants and a nice polo shirt (I'm a T-shirt and jeans guy, so don't think I'm some rich punk), and I see an android showing off some nice clothes, I'd be freaked out, especially if it touched me trying to tell me something. Or if you're a lady looking for some dressy clothing and a lady android is on some specialized stand showing off some cute pants, tall boots, nice shirt or blouse, and all?
The sky's the limit with these things. Also, feel free to take a look at some of the other androids on the web page I've provided. One android is a walking chair! Not kidding! Also look to an android project in 2003 called the "Actroid." It is the 48th-ranked greatest Android. It was also made by the tandem of Osaka University and Kokoro Dreams. Repliee R1 is 55th-ranked. Carry on.
