The 12 Hours of Sebring comes your way on the Speed Channel this Saturday, and some of the winners and hot teams will go to Le Mans in June. I created this forum on the behalf of myself, Houston, Texas, USA, and endurance racing fans worldwide (and in America).

The topic is open to fans of endurance racing, and looking forward to a real start to the 2004 "Grand Slam of Endurance Racing" season (I'm sorry, Grand-Am's made Daytona more of a NASCAR Sportscar series (after all, it's founded by a NASCAR guy, what you expect?))

Anyhow, fire away. The 2004 Sebring Enduro. Afterwards, either Spa-Francorchamps or Nurburgring is next.

Daytona wasn't all that bad.
it kept me going until Sebring . I can't wait and see who will give the Vettes a good run this year, go Ron Felloes. I also hope they show all 24 hours of Lamans this year.

I'm starting to get a racing jones. In one week, it will start, but there will be about a three month break until the next race.

I doubt we'll see more than 25% of this years 24 hour Le Mans race. Six hours is still probably too much for good old Rupert.

No, Kart. You need recognition. It means you're a true fan of endurance racing. I'm sorry I don't have any bobbleheads of me to give you for your efforts... :)

When it comes to television coverage, this is weird. Sebring - 12 hours, 13 hours of coverage. That's cool. Le Mans, 24 hours, 17 hours of coverage (2003). Segmented by NASCAR Practice and Champ Cars at Denver, I think. The better race segmented. Almost as if people looking forward to Le Mans will have to wait somewhere down the line. And to me, night racing is the most thrilling aspect. Now sure, racing at night, big whoop, right? Look at all the pretty lights and the endurance of the racers both young and old. Fans like seeing them light up the night. And if they cut off at about 3PM Central Daylight Time, it's about... maybe 10, 11 PM there. A thing about these races going into the night (especially in road racing) is that nighttime is fun to race in, only as long as you're concentrating on the race. I think it's overlooked a lot. Do you remember the 24 Hours at the Nurburgring? Some of the cars had little lighting devices to put on a light show during the night. While the German fans were getting drunk (rumor has it that Germans love beer), the racing was getting more competitive.

And when KartRacer mentioned Speed showing all 24 hours, last I remember, it was 2001 and it was Speedvision at the time. I didn't get Speedvision until that time, but thanks to my parents, we now have that for Dish (I still don't have the International Channel, though...).

But anyhow, Sebring this weekend, Spring Break for many, a lot of legends being recognized that Saturday, should be a great race. Oh, and not to mention the return of the Saleen S7R. I wonder if the "Batmobile" will race that event...

You lucky dog. Get there early, get a great spot to watch and take alot of pics. And most of all, enjoy! See if you can get a pit pass.

I mentioned the International Channel as a joke. A country I'm into besides America is Japan. And the International Channel just have international media from all over the world, but when I had it with my last cable service, I seen all kinds of media from Japan, even Vietnam. So, no. The International Channel is NOT related to Speed Channel.

By the way, it would be interesting if people would be able to see JGTC racing on JSkySports or whatever. But the 12 Hours of Sebring should be a great race and will be shown flag-to-flag, so all you have to do is watch at least one SECOND of the coverage. It isn't Le Mans, but it will lead into one hell of a Le Mans race. This is why I love endurance racing. And then look at all the racing legends looking to be inducted into the hall of fame at Sebring. And Team Goh (Audi Japan) is coming to build off from their 4th Place at Le Mans 2003 and overall win at the Le Mans 1000km. I think the Murcielago will make its GT racing debut this year as well. I wonder if Maserati will make it as well. You see, car variety, quality drivers, long-distance challenges... this is what endurance is all about. I love watching this kind of racing. And after playing Gran Turismo after Gran Turismo makes me appreciate these cars a little bit more.

I'm sorry to some racing fans, but this style of racing is one of my favorites. I'm a little on the weak side to compete in the sport, but as an enthusiast, there are nothing like those cars on the road or on the track. Sebring 2004 will lead into the Spa 24, then the Nurburgring 24, and all the way up to the Le Mans 2004 race.

Hey ,you don't have to be real strong to race. Check out a local kart track, talkto the members(we just love to talk to knew fan's that might join in to the fun) and see if it is for you. You can pick up a used kart at a good price. Good used ones go for around $2500.00 cdn . Thats about 200.00 US. (ha,ha) At that price you get a race ready kart and all the help from the vets at the track.

Damn. I was hoping you knew something about a second Speed Channel channel. There needs to be one.

There's a great idea. Since speed has become the NASCAR channel, evryone who would like to see more of anything eles should emial them and let them know. Maybe there is enough of us out there, they just might listen.

Believe it or not, when I did forums at another website (undisclosed), I was so full of myself that I actually made up a makeshift petition to make a second Speed Channel, devoted to what we liked Speedvision for. I mean, I'm cool with a "Speed World Channel." But then, that would conflict with ESPN's slumping Speedworld coverage. And if I'm not mistaken, ESPN once did sportscar racing back in the 1990s. But, Sebring coming up, and courtesy of John (me), this is a thread before, during, and maybe after the Sebring 12. So come on in!

It's 4:44 PM as of this post, and in 24 hours and change, Sebring will be on tap. Hope you enjoy the race!

:lol:OK, now that is just rude. Sure rub it in. Tease me some more you lucky dog. While you are sunning your self at the track, I will be hiding inside from the -20 deg weather. :banghead:

The homepage of Sebring:

Afterwards, recap on the ALMS 2004 Season opener by visiting:
http://www.americanlemans.com

As of the date of this thread, the race will start in maybe 6 or 7 hours. Great race. Should blow Daytona right out of the water (even though that is a real endurance race). Have fun, folks. About to check out the racing on Speed, and you all are free to comment on the race once its done. I think if you go to the ALMS website, you can listen to webcasts of the race. I heard a webcast before, and that was when the ALMS went to the Texas oval. Nothing really special, but I was at school and I had the Internet on, and if you can't be at the races, you can surely listen to them online.

Anyhow, enjoy the closing days of Spring Break 2004. See you Saturday night/Sunday morning!

Sebring is looking pretty good, I'm not sure it's necessary to be interrupting with the Palm Beach Barret-Jackson auction every once in a while. Speed will probably run it some 15 more times in the future anyway.

I'm looking forward to the Speed World Challenge season. Sweet, oh so sweet. :D 👍

Dodge Viper smacked in the rear at the start, way behind. Corvette #4 fried it's clutch, he's out. The Audi's have been running away with it all, they're all on the same lap.

First off, I think I did pretty good checking out as much of the race as possible. And I'll admit. I love endurance racing and GT/Sportscar to death, but I felt a little tired. I slept a little early (tried to), then until a little past halfway, I was a little tired. But each hour, I seen at least 10 to 15 minutes of coverage, if not the entire race.

I loved the variety of cars in the race, and too bad the Lotus Elise GT1 was short-lived in the race. And I enjoyed hearing the Audi R8s blast down Ulmann Straight, and also the tangling and action. I still say that I missed the Bentleys from last year. I mean, if Bentley had privateer teams to run their beautiful GTPs, I'd love to see them compete. And the Panoz "batmobile" returning? I hear they're making a run for Le Mans if they can. It was nice to see America's McLaren F1, the Saleen S7R, back in action. I wanted the Ferrari 360 Modenas to win. The cars are beautiful at speed. And congratulations to all the inductees of the Sebring Hall of Fame. Oh, and Lifters... you said I'm like a kid before Christmas about Sebring? Wait until Le Mans!

MY FAVORITE CARS FROM THE RACE:
TVR Tuscans
Risi competizione Ferrari 360 Modena (from Houston, I hear)
Lotus Elise GT1
I thought I saw VW New Beetle.
the newer Riley in LMP1 (I think it's Riley nowadays, not Riley and Scott)

And to me, I think the breaks to Barrett-Jackson, I don't mind them. As long as they get back to the race. Now, instead of butchering Le Mans with NASCAR Final Practice from Michigan or wherever, maybe Speed can show highlights of the Nurburgring 24 Hour race. Then maybe this year's Sebring race. Maybe even Daytona 24 as well. If that's not good, then why not play highlights of last year's Le Mans race? I mean, I wake up that Saturday for Le Mans and nothing else. I didn't come for NASCAR or some other series. I want to see a classic race being expressed throughout the day. I mean, if Speed can b*tch about Daytona Speedweeks, then Le Mans is no different. In any event, Le Mans is next! However, right before Nurburgring.

Until then, comments about Sebring 2004 are welcome.

Um...there is no VW Beetle. See above.

And there is no "new" Riley, the two Riley & Scott MkIIICs are almost a decade old now.

I saw the first three hours, then I feel asleep for a quick nap before I had to go cabin hunting. I saw the last two hours when we got back. I have 6 hours on tape to watch. The Corvette looked great. I have a feeling, with the new gearbox, it will win this year as well. It sucks to hear the 3 car crapped out, when it was doing so well in the beginning of the race.

The Saleen had problems, but I think it will run great this year. Wasn't bad for a brand new car, with a new team.

Looks like another great season.

Wrong. They were using the MK4's. They designed it 2 years ago.

Can you not read? Look at the results. "Riley & Scott MkIIIC - Lincoln" and "Riley & Scott MkIIIC - Elan". There is no Mk IV yet. The only new Riley is the Daytona Prototype used in Grand Am.

Soooory! (sarcastic voice)

Anyhow, (yes, even I get mad online) it was a great race. Now as the dude said after Petit Le Mans last year, here I go:

(whispers in hypnotic voice) "It is only 11 months and change until Sebring 2005!"
