The $2000 Running project car. Is it possible? (Solved? I think so.)

This guy is asking $2000 or best offer.

Not that I could really take myself too seriously in a police car-turned taxi-turned selling it for someone who died affair.

Why can't you find one that hasn't been had taxi duty yet? Theyre absolutely everywhere here for super low prices. Push bumpers and cages included.:D I'd keep looking for police car, it's not the same in yellow.:(

I'd take the Crown Vic as well. I remember reading an article that said that neighbourhoods that contained a Ford Crown Victoria had a lesser chance of getting robbed.

Neither was your post that more or less amounted to "hey, look at me and me talk about expensive engine builds."

Thus, cool story.

Bro.

Probably right, that was bad on my part. I was just saying how I thought it was funny though. Ah well.

I vote for a Suzuki Swift GTI. Essentially a detuned version of the Hayabusa engine in that car.

Not really, given that the Swift GTI had long gone before the Hayabusa ever hit the market. A good decade in between the GTI going and the Hayabusa being released, in fact.

Don't let the fact they both have a Suzuki badge and a 1.3-litre engine fool you ;) If you've seen a Swift with a Hayabusa engine, it's because some resourceful person put it there.

Not that the Swift GTI wasn't a good car, but it certainly didn't have a "detuned Hayabusa engine".

Ok Ok, I was overstating it slightly, but I believe they share the same engine block. Not 100% though. It seems like I've read the busa head will install onto the G13 block in the Cultus/Swift.

Ninja Edit: After researching a bit more, the two engines don't seem to share a single component or dimension. Bore and stroke are totally different, and even the bore spacing itself is different. That doesn't mean the G13b is a bad engine, as it makes pretty good power for it's size, and a surprising amount of torque too. I mean, it's no 13b, but for a boinger, it seems to do pretty good.

I've got a new idea depending on how skilled you are as a mechanic. You could pick up an old fox body mustang or fbody camaro or Monte Carlo that needs an engine or trans for around 1000 and do it your self. Theyre all good track cars and an engine swap won't take you and a couple of friends more than a weekend. Plus you'll end up well under your 2000 dollar budget.

There are actually a few running early 90's Mustangs in the area already under the budget in town, but they need a few bits here and there. I'm also going to be heading out to a few auto auctions in the next week.

Also wonder how much work this needs for catching up.

That sounds like a great race car project. If you don't mind having a car that's kind of beat up on the outside it would be very fast compared to other cars in your range. If you race/autocross it youll eventually end up with damage anyway.

To this day, I still fantasize about buying a BMW 5 or 3 Series and trying to make it into... well, a Touring Car. So I'd go with that.

I looked at a 200SX when I was trying to find my project car, he's what I heard.

I put a bid in on an 86 Nissan 200sx but they guy wouldn't budge on his price even when I told him I'd bring cash.

86 200SX = rust. Check under the hatch and around the rear arches... not fun to have a strut go through the body under hard cornering loads.

I was going to say something about the 200sx as well. I looked into buying one briefly as a daily. Come to find out there's almost NO aftermarket for that car, and the only thing's really worth doing is getting all the suspension and brake bits off a 240sx and putting it all on, as well as the ka24de out of one. By then you will likely have a $3-4k 200sx that is worse than simply starting with a 240sx.

Ouch. Well, might want to rule that one out.

My new budget is 2500, and there are so many more choices. I can't figure out what I want. Need something not super huge, no super small, and still with plenty of potential to be fun. The 200SX seems like quite a bit of work.

Looks quite possibly like the search is finally coming to an end. Here's your hint. If all goes accordingly, I'll be picking it up Thursday.

Going to have a bit of a budget left over as well, possibly going to look for some wheels if it goes through. Don't know a whole lot about these cars, never got too deep into the craze a couple years back, but I do know that to find one of these that looks fairly unmolested is a good find.

Been keeping in contact with the guy so he doesn't sell it out from under me like the last few cars I have looked at. Should be interesting.
