I'm particularly interested in what the "Extreme" modifications will be. What sort of customization is so extreme it is beyond even racing customization?

I'm fairly sure they were joking. But also Blur and Split/Second had such things.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying they have any place in a Gran Turismo game. Obviously.

Those are also car combat games not racing games. Racing is driving faster than your opponents not shooting or destroying their vehicles.

I suspect all the parts across each of the categories will be exactly the same, however the increase in specs will be what changes I.e. sports turbo = +100bhp, club sports = +150bhp, semi racing = +200bhp, racing = +300bhp and extreme = +500bhp (note these numbers are just an example and would likely depend on which car etc.)

So if you were making a time trial/hill climb car you’d stick on extreme parts, but if you were making a GT3 racer you’d opt for the racing parts.

Well, as seen in the image things like customizable LSD and Transmission are in semi-racing. Not all the parts are directly related to simple horsepower boosts.

Dude we're literally messing around. But by the above definition, they definitely ARE racing games given the winner is the one who gets to the finish line first. You don't HAVE to shoot anyone 🤣
If it's an option it's not a racing game.

Car combat. Given you're driving a car consider the finish line simply the end of the combat session rather than a true racing finish line.
But whoever crosses that line first wins, just like in racing.
I'm still not clear on Wreckfest in your definitions?

They race cane toads and cockroaches in the Northern Territory here in Australia and it's first-past-the-post.

I'm 100% certain it's legit racing 'cause they're not allowed to shoot each other.

Just sayin'. 🤔

I know! I was using that as an example!

I think it will be more varied with certain changes only being permitted past a certain level. I don't think you're going to be allowed to change the cylinder bore over 5 levels as one example.

You'd think, but the one level pictured has three separate turbos and a supercharger.

Maybe this is how they have "the most number of parts we've ever had available" - by duplicating everything five times. People really liked it the last time they inflated numbers with duplicates.

One other interesting aspect from this screenshot is the "CDA" value being shown in the customization screen. As far as I'm aware it's the first time the drag coefficient has been shown here. Maybe that has something to with the extreme modifications tab. Removing mirrors and antenna, low drag aero panels, that sort of thing.

I don't think the 600+ aero parts will be displayed in these menus, as I think these five levels of tuning are more for internal customization options, like turbos, full-customizable transmissions/suspensions, and so on. That just makes me all the more curious as to what could be in the "extreme" tab. But as another user implied, I wouldn't be surprised if it was like, for time attack monsters or something otherwise in the vein of modern Pikes Peak machines.

Well this thread stayed on topic for one post .

I agree with @MIE1992 that the aero mods won't be in the tune shop, they will be in the GT Auo menu, but weight reduction is so maybe some limited options that change the look of the car by removing items could be present, don't really know. The extreme section could be where you get the turbo kits that give Skylines 100bhp etc. But it will be interesting to see what else is in there too.

Oh, that’s fine. Keep this one open … PLEASE! Don’t think I can take another three pages of argu… err, discussing, in the tuning thread. ;)

They are racing games by virtue of the genre they are in. You stomping up and down saying they aren't doesn't make it any less true.

Next question.

That being said, I doubt that the tuning is anything other then incremental things leading to an end point. Both GT and Forza would do well to change things in that regard, especially the latter's near pathologic meta towards power focused builds.

I'm not referring to aero parts which improve downforce but rather to aero mods which reduce drag.
