I literally could not find a single thread about this. I wasn't sure whether to put this in the Rumble Strip forum or the Sport Forum. So I just put it in the Rumble Strip forum. :)

Any-who, let's explain what this thread is really about.

I'm pretty sure GTPlanet has its fair share of athletic people. There's no place to really truly discuss it though. So I created this thread for anybody who is or was at any point in their life an athlete.

This is for any sport,

Basketball
Water Polo
Tennis
Rugby
Fútbol
American Football
Gaelic Football
Hockey
Volleyball
Baseball
Weight Lifting
Olympic lifting
Fencing
Softball
Cricket
Wrestling
Rowing
Field-Hocky
Curling
YoYo
Cheer-leading
Track & Field
Swimming
Biking
Motocross
Surfing
Skateboarding
Snowboarding
Skiing
Cross Country
Bowling
Any type of Motorsports
(Karting, organized car racing. I don't care what anybody says, those guys are ridiculous athletes and should be considered as such.)

Let me know if I'm missing any sport.

Basically we Share stories, give advice (If asked), post pictures, discuss anything about our experiences as an athlete, or simply just talk about what our goals and aspirations are as an athlete.

You never know, you could grow interested in another sport from this thread. ;)

Let's try our best to keep this on topic.

I used to play baseball at high school.

I played OF and 1B and ended with a .228 batting average.

Now I play fútbol at defensive positions in the midfield or in the defensive line (duh), but due to university taking almost all my time, I'm not in a team right now, and haven't been in a team in 4 months!

I used to be in Track & Field as a runner. My sweet spot for distance was the 400 meter dash, but the 100 meter was always fun also. I also ran in a mile relay, and I'll tell you it's not fun to run at 30°F in shorts and a jersey.

Haha I remember when I ran the 400m. Lol I hated every bit of it. Ran the 100m but got smoked consistently. I was a jumper in track.

We're the unsung heroes of Track & Field

I loved track even more than cross country. Too bad the only way I'll be able to do it now is to run unattached. My favorite event was the 1600m but, I mostly did the 3200m in high school. My least favorite event was 800 because it's just short of a sprint but, twice as long as the 400.

Why do you have to run unattached? Does your school not fund a Track & Field program?

I thought about doing hurdles, but after I seen a few people fail on those I dropped the idea.

I have to ask, would you consider archery a sport?

Haha tried hurdles. Failed miserably. Despite having long legs.

But, archery...

Skills:
Keen Vision
Pinpoint accuracy
steady hands
patience
hand strength

Haha sounds like a sport to me.

I ran the 100m in middle school, but stopped ever since athletic fees got expensive in High school. I also play basketball, but could never make a team, because of my skinny, sprinter-like frame. I'm a pretty shooter and defender though, according to people I know on the team.

I've always been told that I should play basketball because I'm tall. The thing is, I suck at everything in that sport.

If you put yours arms up and be aggressive, you'd probably get rebounds easily. And sometimes, thats all schools ask from their tall people.

But yeah, not every tall person is meant for basketball.

Wait, they still do the "Pay to play" Booty stuff. I find that method so messed up..

Cowboy how tall are you?? lol

I used to play soccer, and had done for most of my life. I mainly played as a defender who used a pace abuse but during my last season I had a brief spell in every position excluding keeper. I decided to quit after being fed up with the management and players involved, and have now moved on to field hockey as a right winger.

I had a brief spell in relay during primary but never really taken it seriously. Instead of track oriented running I prefer to use it 'free style', bringing it into play during games unexpectedly, for example in soccer I'd be fed up with the job our attackers were doing and run the ball up from defense myself only.

Track & Field baby!

I competed in track from 5th grade on. Because I was so tall early on, I killed it in sprinting, long jump, high jump and discus. Once I got into High School, everyone caught up in Discus since I'm a rail. I turned my focus to triple jump and high jump. I made it to state for a couple years, never won it tho. I competed in college and focused just on high jump.

It was some of the best times ever, especially in college, I still miss it everyday. My sophomore year, I got injured at an indoor track meet here in PDX on a 'poopy' old track with no traction. My left leg slipped forward, my right foot (plant foot cause I'm left handed) stuck really well for some reason and my butt rammed into my right ankle. I didn't know it at the time, but I tore some ligaments and had to hang up the spikes a month later. I was never great enough to make the University of Oregon track team since they are essentially pre-olympic athletes, but I did fine. My PR in high jump was roughly 6'7 3/4" I normally got 6' 4" to 6' 6" each meet.

It was a shame too because the week before I got hurt I PR'd in my Cleans; 200lbs. x1 rep, which considering I weighed 175lbs with my 6'4" frame, that was really good. I was in shape man. Now I can't even begin to dunk a ball anymore. Ahhh, memories.

I guess I count for this. Throughout life I've run track and cross country, swam, and played cricket, rugby and currently, hockey.

Track I requested to run the 3200 because anything less is a sprint

Rugby I split my time between wing and hooker but enjoyed hooker much more

Swimming I just sucked at but at least there were good looking guys on the team:P

Cricket I am a spin bowler but am not very good at batting:irked:

Hockey my favorite position is defence and i like playing a more gritty, physical game rather than focusing on scoring as that is how my favorite players play 👍 My dream would be to play in the National Woman's Hockey League, but that is gonna be a huge amount of work:crazy:

As far as motorsports, I competed in 1 rental kart racing series at the local track when I was 12 racing against 20yr olds. I had 1 win and finished 4th overall thanks to consistency

Ayyyyye that's right down my alley! what was your farthest Triple Jump?

It wasn't all that great at the collegiate level, 43' 9". My long jump PR in high school (never competed in college, just not enough raw speed) was 20'10".

Word. I was able to jump a couple 45's back in High School in Triple Jump and my farthest Long Jump was 21'06 (If I remember correctly) But GOODNESS GRACIOUS! 6'7 in High Jump?! That's a pretty good milestone to hold on to. haha

Up until just a few months ago I was a daily cyclist. I wouldn't call myself an athlete as such but I was definitely fit and made a competition of daily riding, either against my own times, Stava times or just racing cars and scooter through urban areas.

Nowadays I don't ride much. A big crash in April left my knee pretty weak and I don't do much hard, athletic type riding any more, well, at least until I'm confident my knee isn't going to snap.

I also wrestled from 3rd grade up until my sophomore year. I just burned out and was tired of starving myself in order to make weight.

Football/Soccer as a Left winger and regular Squash player at Amateur level. I play both evenly and around 3 times a week.
