The Beginning in GT4

Im always reading and hearing about people who wants to get much money in short time, and to have the most expensiest cars.
But I like being poor in GT4. I love the beginning where you only have 10000CR at your disposal, buying a cheap car with cheap tuning. My friends thinks im crazy beacuse i like to be poor in GT4.
But there is those times when i want 1000hp and go around a race track.
This thread may be useless but i wanted to give my opinion to you.
Hopefully some of you GT4 drivers like being poor to:)

Its not a useless thread and does make a change from the normal how do I get rich quick ones. Its not however in the right place, so I'm going to move it to the general GT4 area.

Regards

Scaff

I honestly don't really remember being poor in GT4, I did the 100k transfer, but in GT3 and GT2 I can honestly say I enjoyed going from car to car comparing specs to see which car would give me the most bang for the buck, so I can see what you mean about having to pick and choose parts and cars wisely.

Makes me wanna start my game over and not do the money transfer or the get rich quick schemes.

I remember the cheap times... build up an 80's RX-7 FC slowly part by part. Each time you race with a new part you get so excited to see your car get faster and faster. I always keep the original car I start off with.

1st Car - '85 RX-7 GT-Limited (FC)

Me too....I love being poor in GT games. Even if you start the game with a transfer of GT3 credits, that extra $100,000 still goes pretty quick, then you're poor again.

But it's those times when I'm poor and struggling that I get the best memories. My crappy MA70 Supra. My '88 Nissan Silvia Q's. That slowish Honda Prelude....:) I tend to take my time in these games and it'll usually take about a month or more before I make 6 figures of cash in some race. Then I feel like a king! :dunce: No, seriously, it feels pretty good when you finally get that "break" into racing stardom.

I don't get the whole "get rich as quick as possible" thing...it must be a different type of gamer who follows this path.

I'm of the " Once you get rich don't be stupid and waste your money... "

I'm still sittin on 2.5-4million at any point in the game. I never know when I'll have a bad day at work, crash out and just buy random cars and only use them once at the 0-400m then sell them off.

Once I get rich, it depends on the game.

I sat on my GT3 money but in GT2 I was constantly "poor" as I kept buying & upgrading cars (2 versions of many cars: road & racing!) I expect once I really get rich in GT4, I'll probly do the same (buy & experiment with many models instead of just relying on a few standbys like I did in my GT3 games). 👍

I didn't do the credit transfer, and I started with the Lupo prize car rahter than buying something. However, it's too easy to make money in GT4.

They should make ALL cars available in Arcade mode right at the beginning, so you can sample them... and then make money harder to get so you have to work for those cars!

Nah, it's still too easy. 10 minutes at Costa D'Amalfi nets you 250,000cr or so.

....that $600 per win in the Sunday Cup is pretty painful, tho! That's the lowest-paying Sunday Cup of all I believe.

GT1: Spot races: $1,000 each.
Sunday Cup: I forget how much you win per SC event...but that prize car (the Mazda Demio A-spec) could be sold for $12,000....a pretty hefty start.

GT2: I'm thinking it was $5,000 per SC win. Is that correct? Grrr...my memory sucks.

GT3: $1,000 per SC win.

GT4: $600 per win...prize car, the Autobianchi, which doesn't exactly fill the coffers early on.

yer i like starting with next to nothing because you are limited to what you can do and have and you can really apricate the cars you have im now 88% through the game and have 170 cars and 12,567,864 at my desposal, and im running out of cars that i want to buy because i will only use them once

I suppose this would be a good time to mention Mr.Slow's "Scrooge" threads:

My first time around on GT4 I scrambled for cash a bit until I discovered the Capri Rally and the DTM. It was fun slowly building up the used RX-7 Spirit I started the game with (along with 100,000 from GT3), but at the same time frustrating because I didn't have the money for cars for most of the events in the Beginner's Hall, and my (lack of) skill at the time was such that I not only had to buy a car but also had to spend a small fortune on tuning bits and pieces.

After you get to know the game, though, money becomes both easier to get and less necessary; I have a game in progress where I have several million in cash and have yet to spend a dime. The only thing keeping me out of the GTWC are the facts I haven't bought a truck and don't yet have a suitable convertible. That's pure prize money btw; I haven't sold a car yet nor raced a series twice.

When I decides to buy a PS3 (got tired of trying to keep up with PC video cards) I was amazed at how long it took to complete the game Well almost complete still need mission 12 & 34 (of course) I had played NFS and finished them in less than a week. GT4 took me about 5 months so far. I'm sitting at about 20,000,000 but don't worry about the money days now but it was hard at first not having any transfer money or anything from GT3 so it was rough at first.
Now days I'm mainly going back and doing the "Endurance races" that I had b-spec'd and trying to get all gold license. The reason I got the game and console was to get ready for GT5 well I'm ready now. I'm also taking some of the other cars I own and racing some of the other races to get used to the cars i don't really care for just for fun.

I didn't start with the money transfer, I just went and got all silvers in the B license and bought a cheap evo from the used car section (early 90's) and went from there.

I ruined the game for myself early on when I decided to do a rally to get some money, at the time I thought I'd get something cheap and crappy like a mini.
I was awarded with a Cadillac, which crushed everything it came up against. :(

That's the worst thing. When I play I never play the rally races, you get so much money that you can get a really fast car pretty fast. My friends tries to win the Ralli di amalfi to get the Super car and the go the second rally race to win a car you can sell for 250.000CR.
The thing I do to slow the game down I buy a really slow and old car and upgrade it first with either Turbo or naturally aspirated engine stage 1, port polish. After some sunday cups and Autobianchis I go for stage 2 Turbo or NA and Engine balancing to reach more RPM and some transmission improvements.(never go for the close gearing, love it when the car have the power but it's so slow), after the car is more tuned up i go for the FF challenge(may take some time before i go for this race)After the FFC I usually sell my car and tries to find a FR or FWD car and go for the sunday cup again for some tuning. But to slow it even more i always buy the cheapest cars like Sprinter Trueno Gt-Apex(which is my favourite poor car) and other 127Horsepower cars, which I can reach the RPM 7.500 with.
As i said, I go for a vehicle take the time with it. Upgrade it first with sport equipment, the Semi racing equipment, stage 1 turbo later stage 2 turbo. Instead of waiting til you have stage 3 turbo first. SPEND YOUR MONEY:)

It really is true--you don't need a lot of power to start GT4 off if you're good at maneuvering round the Ai cars & out-braking them. It always amazes me when someone brags about early wins but they're driving a freekin' rocket. 👎

Nah, it's still too easy. 10 minutes at Costa D'Amalfi nets you 250,000cr or so.

This is true, however, nobody forces you to repeat this race, and you don't have to spend the money once you've earned it! ;)

I did the game this way....

First, I wasn't allowed to drive a race until I'd got 80 Gold licences and 34 completed missions! After doing this though I had a healthy-ish bank balance and 19 prize cars! After this I stuck to the following rules.....

1) You may only drive a car once until you've hit 100% complete.
i.e. if it's a single race event with 5 races, you must use 5 different rides.
If it's a championship series you can do all 5 or 10 races in the same vehicle to win the championship though.
There are some 1 make races where there are exceptions to this, e.g. Triumph Spitfire event is only open to 1 car, so all 3 races were completed in the same Spitfire.
There are 720+ cars in the game and only 522 races, and while some folks like to complete as much as possible in as short a time or as little cash as possible, I want to drive one of everything! :)

2) Prize cars could not be sold for cash. (Until after 100% completion, and even then only duplicates may be sold!)

3) No events may be repeated until 100% is reached. (I did have to break this rule towards the end as I needed extra cash to buy some of the 8 different race cars to complete Real Circuit Tours in, although I did use prize cars for some of them.)

4) As much as possible I tried to race stock cars for as many A-spec points as possible (but this certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea!) although there are certain series where this isn't an option, e.g. Peugeot 206 Cup and Opel Speedster events. (I did make sure I used each Peugeot 206 (except the Rally Car) for at least one of the 5 races, and used both Speedsters for at least 2 of the races in that event.)

5) I have collected 1 of every used car along the way, most of them in their least available mileage form, which took a lot of planning, how to earn enough cash at the right time to buy cars that are only available a certain times.
I bought very few new cars until I'd collected most of the used ones, except the rare black specials which I couldn't afford first time round!
Some exceptions to this are 2 costly Aston Martins for the 3 AM races (+ the used AM V8 Vantage), and 4 new TVRs for the 5 TVR races (+ the used TVR V8S) and there's a few more I can't think of off the top of my head.
This collecting left me very poor, sometimes with under 5,000Cr in the bank at times, for a lot of the game!

6) Thou shalt not use NOS! :yuck:

7) Thou shalt not use B-Spec! :yuck:

Only when I realised that 100% would not be possible unless I repeated some events for cash or re-used some cars to complete Real Circuit Tours did I have to resort to re-doing some events for cash, and even then I still made sure that I used a different car each time (I did the Japanese Championship event about 12 times in 12 different rides to make enough for a Mazda 787B, and did the DTM event in 4 different DTMs to buy the Peugeot 905, and some other events to ensure I'd the requisite 8.3 million Cr in the bank when the Black specials arrived second time around!)

Here's my 100% post showing 512 cars in the garage!

Now I'm 100% complete I'm looking to buy all the rest of the new cars, and drive them, however, still sticking to the 7th commandment, I need a further 75 million credits to buy everything that's missing! Running in A-spec only it'll take some time!
Only once I've acquired and driven every car once will I allow myself to go back and repeat races in previously driven vehicles for more A-spec points.
e.g. a known points gatherer like the Chaparral 2J or Dodge Ram currently sits in my garage with only 1 race under it's belt and only 200 points earned, but the potential for many more. They'll stay there until the rest of the undriven cars in the game have been driven!

Then and only then when all other A-spec garnering techniques have been exhausted, will commandment 6 be broken, if necessary to break the 100,000 A-spec barrier!

Willpower, patience and self control? Yeah you need a lot of that to stick to your guns, but that's the way I've stuck to it so far!

Yeah, I'm an obsessive freak, but I like it this way! :D

A friend of mine and I share PS2 supplies (our games are pretty much collectively owned), and there was one period of time where I ended up with our copy of GT3, but no memory card.

Being a BMW fan, I came up with the idea of starting from scratch in Simulation mode and seeing how long it would take to work my way up to buying the 328i. It was fun, and I did it a few more times later on. To anyone who likes being "poor" or wants to try it, I'd suggest setting your own "goal" car, removing your memory card, and doing the same thing. :)

that sounds like alot of fun,i was gonna rotate my chair to move over tot the ps2, when i realized i lent my gt4 to a bud *sob* oh well, I remember ggt2 days, where i would restart probably 20 times a week, for 2 weeks, I didnt have a memory card...
I tried the honda beat, diahatsu move, mazda demio, the nissan skyline, or old mazda were usually my choices though. I remebemr upgrading a flywheel first, because according tot he description(oh gosh gt2 was so great, so detailed) said the car would be snappier. and then I would get a chip, and clutch It was just so great, seeing how far ahead of the AI i could be, or what it took to be red rock valley RWD challenge. so fun, but long gone.

Man, you know... I like the whole 5 minutes of being poor at the start, I like earning your first race cars and everything and I wish I'd never won that Cadillac from the D'umbria (or whatever it's called) rally... But now I think about it, d'you know what I really, REALLY like!??

Being RICH!! And I mean being rich by like, actually earning the money. O.o

Being RICH and buying super-fast racing cars and winning even more lovely money, and going out and buying yet more hideously expensive racing cars!!

I like having the RX-7 LM Racing car in every colour, I like going into my garage, and spending 20 minutes just deciding on what car to take to high speed ring to see if I can get it to do a sub-one minute lap.

I like being able to talk about all the cars, be able to say 'Yeah, I've got that car, it's blah blah blah' racing the racing cars is the sweetest part of the game. All those years I spent drooling over group C cars I'd never get to see race live, and now I can race them! :D

Of course, there are people who prefer street cars... in the same way that there are people who look at their sister and think, 'Mmm...' -Nods-.

I prefer looking back on the times I was poor fondly, as opposed to like, actually being poor. O.o

wheni first started GT4, As some other people have done i did the 100,000c transfer from GT3 and bought a nice blue R34 GTR anyway i got to about %60 completion then some idiot decided to steal my ps2 along with about 10 Games Including GT4 (dont know why he only took the PS2 when i have a Les Paul copy, and about 7 Rc cARS)

Anyway i rebought a PS2 and started from scratch and it is much better starting from nothing and building the collection

Currently my Main car is a Z06 corvette modded to similar specs to the GTS Corvette

I have a new outlook on GT4 because of this thread. I once had 11 million when I was saving up for the black cars, I had so much money that all I wanted was more. After that I perused 25% game completion. After this was done I had an idea. I have around 100 cars just sitting in my garage. How about I spend all my money (I had around 1 million) and then start from the ground up with every car. Each car will have to win it's own parts. I got it down to almost nothing and am ready to start on my new quest.

That's another thing I like. Once I'm rich, I'll starting maxing out just about any car I own, even if I never use the parts or race it very often. It's just cool to see what some "loser" cars are capable of. Of course this takes a lot of money. :indiff:

Right. Thats what I used to do. Now I make the cars earn there parts. It's a really cool method because it actually shows you what those little cars can do. You go through the entire posse like you start from scratch every time.

Well I'm one person who does like starting out. I did the 100k thing and it was quite boring because it was easy. So when my file was somehow deleted I started over without the 100k. It was lots of fun and I like starting off ANY game. This is why I have restarted several of my games several times.

i restarted GT2 testerday, and today, I have two new skylines, a new silvia S15, a mugen Accord and a sileighty. Its soo mcuh fun to start out, and race fairly(is) with other computers.

I know why i love beeing poor. Because you have the richness to look forward too. When i'm rich there is less to fight for.

When i'm poor i'm happy to get a stage 2 turbo rx7 fc. When i'm rich i'm not even happy with a 1000 hp racing car.
