So in case you've been living under a rock, Iron Man just dropped into theaters, and my God is it awesome! But just a few weeks later, the next installment of Batman (The Dark Knight) shows up as well.

And odd thought occurred to me as I was driving home last night from the movie, who kicks more ass, Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark? Furthermore, their alter egos... Batman vs Iron Man?

Both are billionaires, both make their money off of weapons contracts and emerging technologies. Both blow millions of dollars on the finest automobiles, pieces of art, and certainly live a playboy lifestyle at home and out on the town. I think the only difference here is that while they both are fighting crime for personal reasons, Bruce is more about avenging the death of his parents with a combination of intellect and force... While Tony is more about cleaning up the mess of what his company has created, relying more on brute force than anything.

I have to admit, I'm split. On the one hand, Batman and Bruce Wayne have been some of my favorite characters for for most of my life, and quite often I find his story more meaningful than that of Tony Stark and Iron Man. But the thing is, after seeing the movie, seeing the characters moving on the screen as opposed to in the pages of the book... Its completely different. I just feel like I can appreciate him a lot more now. Although I did notice that they forgot to include his issue with alcohol abuse...

In terms of billionaire badassery, Tony Stark has it hands down. Bruce Wayne does it the way I would do it, but come on, Stark has some nifty stuff. If you haven't seen the movie, trust me, you'll be amazed. His garage alone is something I'd want... Forget the rest of the house. Wayne just feels like "old money," which he is, but its that conservative nature that seems to lose me.

As far as the day jobs are concerned, well, it depends on what you're into I suppose. Stark is more about blowing things up than doing a little bit of everything like Wayne, and that has to be work something. Plus, there is Lucious Fox, and hes just awesome. Although Rhodey is bad-ass too. I'd have to give the nod to Wayne here.

And the part-time hobby?

Well, I suppose thats more about what you're into. While I certainly love the way Iron Man goes about his business with some of the most kick-ass approaches to fighting, well, ever... The physical and mental demands of what Batman does seems to supersede it. Thats not to say that Iron Man is a dolt, because I want the MKIII in my garage NOW(!), but its a very different thing when you're in a 650 lb metal suit that is essentially bullet/bomb proof with a computer that helps you target things... Batman has to do things the "right" way, sneaking around, doesn't always kill (Iron Man does), and has a good chance at dying in every encounter.

But I still feel like it is a draw... I feel more emotionally attached to Bruce Wayne and Batman, but in terms of what I'd really want to do just for the hell of it, Tony Stark and Iron Man takes the cake.

What do ya'all think?

Tony Stark is a believably human billionaire. Bruce Wayne... well... the story with the parents and the murder and the guilt and angst works once, and then it becomes a drag.

I mean, seriously... are you going to obsess about it all your life? In every single comic book, graphic novel and movie? Or are you going to move on? It's no wonder Bruce has had so many girlfriends and partners come and go. He may be the Dark Knight... awesome ass-kicking bat-out-of-hell... but he's probably a bore to live with... and work with (no wonder he keeps losing Robins). Tony? Well... just look at him and Jim Rhodes... they is tight! Tony may be a morally conflicted character in a more general way than Bruce (Bruce's moral conflict is more basic, more of the "hows" and not the "whys", while Tony is seriously egotistical, sometimes self-serving and not always as altruistic as you expect a superhero to be), but he's human and he lives in the real world. As a human, he changes, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Bruce Wayne is more of a mask than anything. A caricature, unmoving, unchanging, unchangeable.

I'd rather have Tony for my drinking buddy, but I'd sooner trust Bruce with my money.

Bruce Wanye seems to have more class and style... like you said old money kind of wealth... very conservative and has his nice old style mansion.

Tony Stark is more the new money bachelor style kinda guy with his flash modern house and gadgets.

hmmm.... its hard to say which is 'better'...

Robin

Tony Stark is a fascist elitist bastard. Batman, on the other hand, is the ultimate representation of independence and justice.

Plus, Stark relies on a suit, whereas Batman's suit and gadgets are only supplementary.

Stark may be an elitist, but meh, anyone with money should be. If I had a net worth of $6b, I'm sure I'd have just as many kick-ass things as he does. Batman has cool stuff too, but yeah, there is something about a guy who has a '32 Duce and a S7TT for good measure...

Batman approaches the superhero question in the best way possible, no question there. Stark just does it with style. And he has things that go "boom."

For some reason, this reminds me of those PC vs Mac commercial. Like Tony is Mac and Bruce is Pc.
I would choose Tony 👍

There's another more important word in there. ;)

Let's put it this way: if Civil War took place in the DC universe, Batman's [Captain America's] side would've won hands down.

I only learned who Tony Stark was after reading this thread. Bruce Wayne is known everywhere.

Tony Stark, if I was a millionaire/billionaire thats the way I would live personally. Plus he has good taste in cars, not the somewhat stupid Batmobile IMO.

Batman drives a batmobile, not Bruce Wayne.

Well he had a Murcielago in batman begins.

Otherwise, he's usually chauffeured.

Oh. I take back the car taste comment then, seems to be that both have good car taste although I still prefer Tony's car line up.

I decided to pick Bruce Wayne in the end.... after all, who's sidekick would I be without him? :sly:

Thats because Superman is a d-bag and has had his ass handed to him by Batman more than enough times to count...

But yes, nevertheless, you're right.

damn straight, ive never read a comic book to save my life, but i still knew batman / phantom / superman.

Never heard of iron man until like 1 week ago..

Superman is my favourite "hero" but in this poll batman wins.

Word, it's not like Bruce Wayne drives a Tercel.

FAIL.

Superman is the worst "superhero" of them all. Sorry. Can't die? Can fly? Laser vision? Super-strength?

Meh.

At least Tony Stark and Batman are mortals and have to use their head to get about.

=====

Its no offense, I just can't understand why people like Superman.

Superman can die. He's just not human. People like him because he's the "ubermensch" archetype.

Either way, Tony has one of these:

Oh, and this too:

Not to mention the Cobra 427 and S7TT...

And all that?

Yeah, the Tumbler is cool... But THAT = WIN.

Bruce Wayne all the way. Come on, he's chauffeured everywhere. He doesn't have to show off to let you know he's badass. You just know. The ultimate expression I'm-better-than-you is to have you working for me.
