The Charming Cars Thread

In all seriousness, if I do get my hands on one I’d probably swap out the motor for something more reliable/powerful and update the suspension anyway, which would fix the rubber bumper era’s two biggest flaws.
I had a neighbor with a '73 powered by an Iron Duke and 5-speed from a Monza. It wasn't a screamer, but it would run forever and would have few problems that couldn't be fixed with a blunt instrument.

I have an unreasonable attraction to these cars:

Have some tissues handy.

I present the 1988-1993 Jeep Wrangler Islander Edition.

I find myself having an affinity to the YJ. There is something about how simple they look, even by Jeep standards. The CJ models that came before were a little too gratuitous looking (for me) and the models that followed the YJ have been maybe a bit too self-referential. The YJ has a kind of honest "Hey, I'm a Jeep and I really like being a Jeep lets go to the beach!" character somehow. Newer ones, especially, have become a little "LETS INVADE VENEZUELA LOOK MY SWAYBARS DISCONNECT FOR MAXIMUM ARTICULATION" for my tastes.

Bonus. YJ on a beach because that just sounds so nice right now.

I always considered YJs sacrilegeous due to the square headlights, but I've started to warm up to them in my old age.

Funny you mention that. My dad's first car was actually a '93 Wrangler Islander in turquoise that he bought used. It looked like this:

It's a shame that the YJ and TJ front ends are actually basically completely different if you compare them part for part. I'd love to have a TJ and all the mechanical and design advances that it brought to the table while still maintaining that tight compact space, but with a front end that looks like someone actually put effort into styling.
