I searched this up and nothing came up, so I will start it. If this is talked about in the metal thread, I'm sorry.

Ah, how I wish I could relive the 80's and 90's...god, I had so much fun in that era.

So, what bands do you like from this era? Metallica, Van Halen, and Soundgarden were my favorites from the era.

You may talk about anything classic rock in this thread.

Bands I like from that era include Van Halen, Duran Duran, The Police, the Thompson Twins and surely a few I'm leaving out.

However those are the more recent items in my collection, which is mostly 1960's with a fair amount of 1950's and 1970's. The Doors, Steppenwolf, Jimi Hendrix, the Beach Boys... now that is classic rock!

Just expressing my thoughts here, not trying to start a war.

Yeah...I should have included those years as well...

I love April Wine, Trooper, The Police, Nazareth, Jefferson Airplane, CCR, Buffalo Springfield, BTO, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Joe Walsh, The Scorpions, The Who, Steve miller Band, Blue Oyster Cult, Journey, Kansas, Eric Clapton, Bad Company, ZZ Top, ect.

That's what I think of when I hear 'Classic rock', VH are more Hard rock I would say, no?

I really enjoy "The Cult".
Especially their "Love" album, it has one of my favourite songs, "Brother Wolf Sister Moon."

Agreed

Pink Floyd too 👍 I know they're more progressive rock, but I still consider them classic rock, as do the 2 local classic rock radio stations :)

Yeah I'd Classify Van Halen as hard rock. I personally think Classic Rock is one of the dumbest and most useless genres names. Pretty much every 'rock' pre-1980 is labeled as Classic Rock for some reason.

Thinks like Nazareth, Led Zeppelin, The Scorpions, The Who, Blue Oyster Cult I'd all classify as Hard Rock and Jefferson Airplane I'd call Psych Rock. Most of these are much bluesier then the likes of other bands you named.

I'm a huge heavy Psych fan. The underground Psych scene in the 70's was massive and most of the stuff you can only find through digital downloads, illegal downloads (though most of them are probably unsigned so it really isn't illegal and most of the bands would love it if you did it anyways) or a rare discovery in a garage sale/record store.

There is also a massive (understatement) scene of Heavy Psych/Tradition Doom style bands that pretty much play the same style. Usually analog recordings in someones basement or small studio, on old instruments. Yet they all have there own unique sound.

Dust, oh man I love those guys!

One other I forgot to mention was Blue Cheer.. but they're technically psych I 'spose.

I don't much care for Blue Cheer. Mostly because they're best known for their cover of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues", which they totally butchered. Unfortunately the BC version is a lot easier to find than the Cochran version.

The Eagles anyone?

Oh yes.

Good taste my friend ... very good taste. 👍
One group from your list that stands out like a sore thumb and never really got the true recognition that they deserved was April Wine. A very talented group from Canada who I personally think never got a fair shake in the recording industry. Corporate owned bands ***cough cough - Foreigner - cough cough *** took their spot ..... sad.

When I think classic Rock, generally I'm in the pre 90's mode of thought. While some of the pre 90's music may be classified as Heavy Metal or Hard Rock, it is still classified as a Classic Rock Genre. The same can be said for some Punk Rock, Blues Rock, Southern Rock, etc. etc. etc..

Just a few others who I think qualify for Classic Rock Artists :
1 - Lynyrd Skynyrd (Southern Classic Rock at it's best)
2 - Moody Blues (IMO ...the best Blues Rock Band ever)
3 - The Beatles (Need I say anything here ?)
4 - Aerosmith (the early years, before they became corporate :yuck:)
5 - Peter Frampton (who has never heard Frampton Comes Alive ? ... seriously.)

I'll stop there for now.

Been listening to Love at First Sting more again. Forgotten how much I love Scorpions, such a phenomenal album.

^ Totally man.

This belongs here, early, early Priest can be considered rock. From their 1974 debut album (Which is appropriately named "Rocka-Rolla") :D

Listening to Savage Amusement now lol. 1976-1995 were Scorpions best years excluding Sting in the Tail.

Nobody's said Rush!

I was going to get to that one, you beat me to it. Rush - one of the premier bands out there and yet they are not in the R&R HOF. Instead, we have bands / musicians like ****** in there. :grumpy: :yuck:

Rolling Stones anyone ?

I can't believe Maiden and Scorps aren't in.
