Format slightly different this year with the extra players, the 32 seeded players don't enter till the second round but that will start sooner that you think as a seeded player plays in the final match of the session, like tonight when Rob Cross plays either De Zwaan/Kumar, so there are three first round matches tonight and one second round match, and it will be like that in every session for the next week.

There are now double session every day rather than just at the weekend, so the darts will be on at 1pm and 7pm every day the Christmas break, which is Christmas Eve, Christmas day and Boxing Day.

Action finally underway.

Great match between Jamie Lewis and Cody Harris just finished, Lewis 3-2 but was 2-0 up, good comeback by Harris, Paul Nicholson's return was stopped in its tracks by Kevin Burness who goes through via a 3-0 whitewash, Burness now plays Gary Anderson in the second round tonight.

Last night saw Lisa Ashton's debut and unfortunately she got knocked out by Dekker 3-1, Ashton started well with a 107 average and some big finishes but Dekker was a bit more consistant, Cross v De Zwaan was a good match, De Zwaan started well but then Cross found his groove, De Zwaan still had a 106 average and its the second highest average by a losing player at the WDC.

Michael Van Gerwen had Beer thrown at him right before his walk-on tonight, he had to get a new shirt and dry himself off before his match with Alan Tabern.

He managed to regain his composure and win 3-1, the idiot who threw the Beer was swiftly ejected out of the venue and has been banned from Darts for life.

That’s good to hear, people like that don’t deserve to ever go back to the darts

And Van Gerwen still spent some time with the fans after the match and signed autographs, top class...

VAN BARNEVELD HAS BEEN KNOCKED OUT. he lost out in the second round to Labanauskas of Lithuania 3-2, he was competitive in the match but nowhere near his best, and I don't think we have seen him at his best for a good few years.

Elsewhere the second female competitor Dobromyslova was in action and sadly she was knocked out by Ryan Joyce 3-0 and Wayne Jones and Devon Peterson had a great match which went down to the final leg with Peterson going through 3-2.

Every once in while there is player who before the WDC was a relative unknown and then said player goes on a great run to the quarter or semi finals, Ryan Joyce could well be that player this time, tonight he knocked out 8th seed Simon Whitlock 3-0 in the second round, knocked out might be an understatement as he battered him!

James Wade suffered a scare against Seigo Akada but Wade just made it through 3-2 via a final set tie break,

Two more seeds gone today, one of them is a big one in the shape of 7th seed Mensur Suljovic who was knocked out by Ryan Searle 3-1, Steve Beaton was knocked out by Chris Dobey 3-0 this afternoon.

Two more seeds gone today, 15th seed Jonny Clayton just lost out to Van Den Beurgh, and most notably of all number 6 seed Gerwyn Price is out, he was 2-0 up v Nathan Aspinall but lost out 3-2.

Somewhere Gary Anderson must have a big grin on his face!

Third round starts tomorrow, Van Gerwen v Hopp is the pick of the matches.

Chris Dobey beat Van Der Voort 3-4, another seed has gone and its Mervyn King who lost out to Brendan Dolan 4-2 and James Wade just had a terrific comeback from 3-1 down to beat Keegan Brown 4-3, Wade got a hostile reception from the crowd at first because of the incidents in his second round game against Asanda.

Tonight its Adrian Lewis v Labanauskas, Aspinall v Kyle Anderson and Rob Cross v Cristo Reyes.

Tournament takes a break after tonight for Christmas, it will return on Thursday the 27th.

Darts is back after a three day break, last night saw van Gerwen knock out Adrian Lewis 4-1, Gary Anderson and Chris Dobey had the match of the tournament so far, Dobey went two sets up but Anderson won 4-3 on a tie break, really nerve racking at the end!

This afternoon Nathan Aspinall beat Devon Peterson 4-3 to get to the quarter finals, where he will face Brendan Dolan who beat Van De Pas 4-1, James Wade the 9th seed is out after losing 4-3 to Ryan Joyce, neither player played that well, Joyce missed 35 darts at double and Wade looked under pressure, after the match Wade barely shook Joyce's hand and didn't shake the referee's hand. Joyce now plays MVG in the quarters.

Tonight its Ryan Searle v 10th seed Michael Smith, 28th seed Jamie Lewis v number 12 Dave Chisnall, and reigning champ Rob Cross v Luke Humphries for the final places in the quarter finals.

PDC World Championship 2019 Semi Finals

Nathan Aspinall v Michael Smith (10)
Gary Anderson (4) v Michael Van Gerwen (2)

Best of 11 sets, Sky Sports Darts 7pm tomorrow.

Van Gerwen crushed Anderson 6-1 and Smith beat Aspinall 6-3.

The final between Van Gerwen and Smith takes place 8pm GMT on New Years Day, which is Tuesday.

Michael Van Gerwen is the 2019 PDC World Champion, he beat Michael Smith 7-3 and is now a three-time Champion, he dominated much of the match, Smith had a good spell in which he won two sets in a row but he missed too many doubles (28 in total) and MVG was more consistent.

Here is the Premier League line up.

Michael Van Gerwen
Rob Cross
Peter Wright
Gary Anderson
Gerwyn Price
Daryl Gurney
Mensur Suljovic
Michael Smith
James Wade
Raymond Van Barneveld

Competition starts on February 7th.

Glen Durrant won the BDO World Championship on Sunday, he beat Scott Waites 7-3 in the final for his third consecutive crown, he should step up to the PDC now, he is more than good enough to compete.

Durrant got himself a PDC tour card through Q school. The full list of players is here.
Unsurprisingly MVG is on more than double the next best player in the rankings.

Gary Anderson has pulled out of this years Premier League because of his back injury, he missed the Masters tournament at the weekend, there wont be one single replacement for him instead there will be nine replacements with one taking part each week. The players in question are...

Chris Dobey
Glenn Durrant
Steve Lennon
Luke Humphries
John Henderson
Nathan Aspinall
Max Hopp
Van Den Burgh
Jeffrey De Zwann

These are being called 'stars of the future and local favourites', points won by the players wont count towards the league table. But their opponents will retain points won against them, one player will be eliminated rather than two and the play-off remain the same.

The reaction to this has been mixed. Dave Chisnall, Simon Whitlock and Kim Huybrechts do deserve the chance to take part but I think it will be a great opportunity for the players in question.

The competition starts on Thursday in Nottingham with Chris Dobey taking on Mensur Suljovic.

That is a cracking idea. More time on the very biggest of stages can only be good for them.

Premier League starts tonight in Newcastle (not Nottingham like I said, whoops!), the matches tonight are Wade v Van Barneveld, Price v Gurney, Dobey v Suljovic, Van Gerwen v Smith and Wright v Cross.

On Sky from 7pm.

MVG v Bully Boy stand out tie of the night. Hope Wade gets humped by Barney after his recent behaviour and if the earth would open up and swallow Price & Gurney I wouldn't mind! Love the darts!

Wade beat Barney 7-4, Price still gave it both barrels in a 7-4 victory over Gurney (Price first ever PL win), Dobey was fantastic against Suljovic as he went 5-1 up and averaging over a ton, but then Mensur turned up and it was 5-5 in a blink of an eye and it finished a 6-6 draw (great start for the 'contenders') MVG v Smith was a great close game with MVG just shading it 7-5 and Wright v Cross was also a 6-6 draw.

Really good start with some close matches and no one averaged more than 95. 👍

Second night of PL darts tonight and the matches are: Wright v Smith, Cross v Wade, Barney v Price, Durrant v Gurney & Suljovic v MVG.

Action underway from 7pm in Glasgow live on Sky.

Gary Anderson will return to action in the UK Open this weekend following his back injury, he will defend the trophy he won last year in Butlins Minehead.

Michael Smith will be taking part in tomorrows PL action and the UK Open despite having minor surgery to remove absence from his left groin, he is on painkillers and his leg is strapped up. Luke Humphries is the 'contender' taking part in the PL tomorrow in Exeter against Gerwyn Price, last years event in Exeter was cancelled because of Snow.
