The Gran Turismo Movie Might Be Dead

The final race in the movie could've been the main character racing at the Circuit De La Sarthe 24h a 2006 R10 and 11 of his opponents are in random LMP1s, 900s and GT1s where the rest of the 40+ field are random Le Mans racers of the past, and throughout the entire race he gets chased by 2 Peugeot 908s and a Speed 8, but then the 908s break down in the final hour, then the main character wins the race and the Radio Le Mans commentators go nuts off their seats

“I have a feeling it’s not going to go forward,” the Gran Turismo creator said. “You never know what’s going on.”

Oh the irony! Kaz finally knows how it feels to have a complete lack of communication with a project...

To be fair, video game-based movies rarely work out so it's probably a good thing in the long run.

I agree, not much material in GT for creating a feature film. I like GT but I can't say I was looking forward to this movie.
The reason so many games are turned into movies is because many games do have stories, interesting characters, plot twists, etc. everything that makes an entertaining film. But even more than the game content, film makers are drawing on an existing fan base (gamers) hoping they will see a game they like which is now a film and all go flocking to see it. It's about money, or specifically, return of investment.
The film industry does not have recessions, just like alcohol and tobacco. People want to feel good no matter how broke they are.

this was never a good idea to begin with, save your money. It's hard enough for motorsport centered movies to be successful, let alone a a racing game

Gt Movie Featuring Kaz and Jackie Chan.

Bad guys are sabotaging Jackie Chan's racing team while Kaz is the driver.

So Jackie Chan has to beat up the bad guys so his team wins.

Already done with Thunderbolt.

Yes I know. I watched that film. This time Jackie Chan runs a racing team rather than driving. Kazunori would be the racer.

Also add in a Chris Tucker cameo.

Not surprised at all GT has no story so what would be the point? Imo R.Racing Evolution for the ps2 has probably the best story of any track based racing game I've ever played and would love to see it made into a movie.

I imagine they couldn't figure out a way to make 'rubber band the thumbstick to ride the wall for an hour or so' into a high stakes action scene to get the big prize...

What’s with turning video games into movies as of late? Lack of originality? Not to mention they’re all complete garbage renditions. Anyone remember the Assassins Creed movie? Oh yeah, no one does. And what would even be the story line of a Gran Turismo movie?

I wouldn’t be opposed to it if they weren’t complete trash, but I haven’t seen a single video game based movie that wasn’t awful.

As a fan of the Uncharted series I hope they turn the tide for it, but I’m not optimistic.

Uwe Boll would like to have a word with you.

Never understood how this would work. Then again, it's still a better basis for a film than the Crazy Taxi and RollerCoaster Tycoon (yes, really) movies that were proposed ages ago.

If you want great racing movies, take a look at John Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix" It's an oldie, but the cinematography is stunning for that era. Modern equivalent would be Rush. Also, while it is not about racing, I will suggest Ronin as Frakenheimer's last creation on making best car chase in movie history, probably after Bullitt. Steve McQueen's "Le Mans" was also iconic. Lots of movie related with cars, but true racing genre were just small piece of them though. With an exception of Fast and Furious franchise obviously.

There is also movie adaptation of racing comic Michel Vaillant. Really like the Le Mans scenes, which shot at the same time with 2002 Le Mans races and that is pretty cool. The entire movie however is okay I guess.

I found the NFS movie is enjoyable nonetheless, especially the stunts and crashes they were real and that what makes it a good watch. The plot is fine I think. Not stand too much, but at least there is thing going on till the end.

Am I the only one who thinks that Ratchet & Clank movie was at least decent, if not fairly good?

As for the NFS movie - I went as far as watched it in a cinema. It certainly wasn't great (mostly due to the authors' idea of a storyline being a bunch of Cheddar thrown together), but I do respect their decision to not to rely on CGI.

They certainly haven't been Oscar contenders
Oh, really?

Thank god for that lol...stick to games and for goodness sake let someome with an original pitch have a crack at making a film again tired of crap remakes they aren't better when you throw 100 times more money at it. No decent films since 90's

This is the first I've ever heard of a movie spin off. What a diabolically awful, awful idea.

So they're thinking better of it...Good idea.
