Getting decals made myself is something I also need to work on.
Though it’s incredibly time consuming to learn.

I know how this is going to sound, but it actually isn't. There's a couple of basic principles, a handful of tools, and a few operations that you need to get your head around. Beyond that, it's just scaling up your experience. You quickly learn to look at an image and mentally break it down to simpler shapes/lines/curves and really, that's all there is to it, manipulating simple shapes.

I know what you mean and agree. My problem is simply time

I have a livery I want to make that will involve many many decals I or someone else will have to make... so I'm going to try and work up to doing that.

If you choose to use a 12 year old graphics design program for a PC, that's no longer for sale or supported (i.e. CorelDrawX3)... I'm happy to give you some pointers

I had hoped to get something entered, but it's not going to happen. I was away from my art computer for more than a week, and none of my existing liveries really qualify as replicas, as I usually take creative liberties with everyone I do.
Paul Miller Huracan, SunEnergy1 AMG ?

haha I learnt (self taught) how to use Photoshop CS1 and ImageReady for .gif's and the newer software tools are impossible for me to switch to!

I'll have a gander, though my idea/concept involves photo's and putting them into the game, is that even possible?

Quite an interesting read from where I left off last night. I wish I had something to add, but my brain hasn’t woken up yet.

Regarding @Cytoria and his ‘two car entry’ - nothing in the rules says he couldn’t. I think there’s another entry a few pages back that has more cars too, unless I’m mistaken.

The only way to find this car reliably without it being a stock photo with an annoying watermark is to watch a video of a race with it competing or by "Gaazmaster" renders.

This is my first entry into the livery editor competition. I didn't want to do anything for this before because it always felt like the week was decided way in advance because the same few talented people would get huge amounts of likes before the voting started. So yeah, as a newcomer it seemed pretty stacked before I even decided to enter.

However, I decided the only way to make a dent in that is to try, so I present to you my AKKA ASP Team Ferrari 458 Italia GTE from the Blancpain GT Sports Series. It's not the main endurance championship and this is a pretty unknown livery, so I knew I would get some points for the obscureness alone.

All decals are 100% authentic to the real car, everything down to the BBS centre lock rims are identical.

Nice one, and welcome to the competitions. But you need to edit all of it to not be DQ’ed. :)

If you’re skilled enough and have the patience, sure. I’ve seen ‘images’ in the discovery section on some liveries. That takes some serious skill.

Hmmm, sounding like a no... least it’ll be one of those ‘achievable’ goals I can work towards for perpetuity :sly:

Not directly. Again, it's only really a couple of simple tools to do it... but it's a soul crushing task. It inevitably requires breaking an image into smaller chunks to get it under 15kb. There's two ways to go about this, but there's no two ways about it (!)... it requires more patience than anything else.

MMX
I appreciate it, but even those would need some work to get up to the standards set here. Nobody will miss my half baked contribution.
I will.

And I can easily quote a dozen of your « half-baked » liveries which deserve to be here.

BTW, when will you rename your own topic ? That’s a long time since you’re not a rookie anymore !

I need a weekend to pop my cherry and then see what I can do and what is possible with what I envision :D ...then spam your inbox

Cheers chaps... also, so excited for tomorrow, seeing all these beautiful ****ing cars in one nice page all lined up

I kind of let my rookie thread fall off, since I started using Scape shots only. Don't want to post the same pics in two different threads.

I'll see if I can get something together, before syntex shuts it down here, but I won't have much time left, as I'm at work now. :D

With all the respect due to @MatskiMonk, it is far easier to put a drawing like he has made than a picture, within the 15kB limitation.

Drawing needs patience, precision, and some skills to slice it into 15kB bits. But I’m struggling for MONTHS on a picture which I thought would be quite easy. Auto-trace, colour layers, hand drawing... nothing gets me close enough to the goal I want, neither to the quality standard I can deal with.

hmm... the imagine I was hoping to have in the game was of a photo, of a man, holding a baby... idk even know how you would begin to hand draw that lmao

Wait a minute. Decals must be own-made for this competition? Almost all of them on my car are from Discovery section
Nahhh just I want to learn to do them myself! haha

I've made literally non of the decals on my car, which is why I thanked Daan in my submission

EDIT: and @Cytoria :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown: sorry I forgot :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Yeah, illustrations are fundamentally likely to be more efficient to redraw, but I'd say with a photo, as long as you can get a good enough auto-trace (and you're not trying to fit it on particularly curvacious part of the car), it's simply a question of how many tiles / layers / objects you need to break it down into...

... but this is probably a topic best left for another thread.

I guess it's a formatting problem, either the pics are too big or you have posted the wrong number of shots. Read the first post, everything is explained there.

Preview images are unedited, 640 pixels max, red “Final Entry text”, additional images are in a spoiler, the location and photo taking method corresponds to the tutorial. Not sure what else I can do.

Pictures differ from what the tutorial provides though, where’s the shadows under the car? If they follow the tutorial I’m curious what you did. Not that this is the main concern, though.

But your bonus images are only of the real car. You need one image in-game matched to a reference image, not two real life images.

:)

I don’t have time today to go back and take new entry photos, I can change the photos in the spoiler but that’s the best your going to get.

Aleight, I've checked your entry (which btw looks awesome), in the spoiler you have two shots of the real car, while you should have one of the real deal, and one of your livery, preferably with an angle pretty close to the real car shot. Fix that and everything is okay ;)

Right folks, tough love time!

I'm at 36 entries (I miss counted before) and most people have followed the format correctly. If people have posted more than one bonus shot then I've only gone with the first two, so if you find a shot missing in the poll then you should have read the rules!

Size-wise most of you are ok with the following exceptions:
@LineR32 - Whilst your entry photos are under 640px, they're quite a bit smaller so if you want to re-link the 640px versions (or better still PM them to either myself or @syntex123 ) I/we can update the poll list.

@Greycap , @Baliwa , @aydanmatthews - Your bonus shot of the real car is too big please resize and PM to myself or @syntex123 👍

I think that's it. I'm sure Martin will chime in if he's spotted anything I've missed!
