Whatever happened to the analog tachometer? Bring back the Tacho!!! Hate this digital one, I want to watch that needle go all the way up to 9000rpm on an RX-7 or see it bouncing off the rev limiter. Why did they take it out and replace it with the digitial crap grrr

HUD-less in cockpit view would be great.

An engineer relaying my lap times over the radio would be a good replacement.

I'd really like the options for a pit board...

or another cool idea would be to have a button you can press that shows the hud... so during a race if you need to know something you could just hit the button, see what you need, and then close it again.

I dont think i have one button left in GT5P.. lol, they are all taken allready.

What do you use the direction keys for if your using analogue to steer?
What about the left analogue, what does that do when you click it in?

Genuinely interested. 💡

From the top of my head... left analog stick click is for disabling or activating the ghost cars (i do a lot of time trialing).

When i click the right analog stick i go into the little sub-menu where you can setup the ABS, traction control, stabillity manager, front brakes, etc.. and i can run through that sub-menu with the directional keys.

hmm... so the joypad is already used..
I don't think that a combo would be good for that.
On the GTDFP the center button (clacson) is not used.

But the directional keys could be used when you are not on the ABS & co setup..

So how do we bring this to PD's attention? We talked about damage, weather, improved AI, and other things which we are seeing in GT, would they read this?

I can just hope because it's the simplest thing to do :)
Can we do other things?

What i tried to do is just post a simple thread which we could have kept bumped because people of sony and PD are reading these forums as well.. they might overlook this one though.

Email them?

Is it possible?
I'm not very good at english but it could be a good thing to remember to polyphony for me :)
And not a "months of time" thing to do :)

All very good ideas but here's an interesting thought that no one has mentioned. Integrated HUD through Remote Play! How sweet would that be? People have been saying use remote play to function as a rear view but i think this is a much better option. If this was made a reality, i'd find some way to mount my psp on a G27 steering wheel that way i could check tire wear, positions, track map etc.....

I don't know if anyone else has said this yet but it would be cool to see your position appear only once you gain or lose a position. So if you get passed or pass another car, your position appears in the top left for a second or two and then fades away. Same goes for your lap time -- once you complete a lap your time stays on the screen for a few seconds and then disappears.

Other than that we don't really need the HUD.

In GT4, you have the option for a full HUD or a simple HUD. With the simple one there's no suggested gear indicator, no race position and lap times only appear at the completion of each lap (although you still have the middle lap timer- not 100% sure, though). Because of GT4 doesn't have a cockpit view, obviously there's still the speed/rev gauges and the gear indicator. I'm quite certain that there will be a HUD-less option or at least a much simpler display in GT5.

If it's possible to, at last, turn off the HUD I'd make use of this feature.

💡 Logitech or another wheel developer should make an affordable wheel with a few working gauges on ( a small dashboard of some sort).

  • A speedometer
  • A rev counter with a build in fuel gauge
  • gear selector display

I am all for HUD options, especially now we have cockpit view.

They should turn the suggested gear indicator off in pro mode, it gives the ideal braking point away.

Or at least make it optional.

I'd love some customization, both in HUD and seat position. In most games if the car has a readable tacho and gear indicator I'll just drive without a HUD, or in multiplayer with only map on (to avoid accidently pulling out infront of someone after a crash, or to see cars that might have crashed ahead and mayb be pulling out infront of me).

I like a gear indicator when using a sequential shifter. Most the time you can hear the engine ok, but under brakes often I'll shift into the wrong gear for the corner if I dont have something to tell me what gear I'm in, then lose time swapping into the correct gear. If I'm using a H-pattern shifter then I dont need a gear indicator, just like I dont need one in real life ;)

I agree with making it optional, although the braking point it isn't ideal ;)

I really like the idea. Im of the opinion that you should be able to turn on/off every part of the hud to your liking. More customisation never hurt anybody.

Although it may not be practical for hardcore racing, if you want to go for a joy ride around a course their would be no better way to experience Gran Turismo.

Nice post 👍

Hi GTP Community!

PLEEEEASE POLYPHONY DIGITAL ! A simple NO-HUD OPTION is all i ask for.

Every serious racer offers that option. So PLEASE PD, make it The Real Driving Simulator as it should be. This issue was the most annoying thing in GT5 Prologue for me. I would even pay more for it.

Maybe KAZ and crew don´t realize it, but Forza 3 is serious.

Greets padix

In my hud display I would have the appropriate gear for the corner ( red one) , what gear I am in for vechiles without a display for that on the dash, a map, lap counterand my race position.

I don't see a problem with the current HUD setup. Sure I have a few minor complaints - for example, I don't understand the point of a G-force meter in a videogame. But it isn't overly cluttered and it offers relevant information. What more could you ask for?

Also, why do some of you guys want an option to remove the HUD? I'm in my living room driving a virtual car looking through a TV...I don't think getting rid of some text is going to make me feel any more immersed in the game. But if it's a distraction to some of you then I understand.

You can email them.. sure, just point them towards this thread and link this thread in the email, and see what will happen.
You will probably never get a reply, but at least they will probably have read it and think about it, if they have not done that yet.

Try to remove the hud from a game, you could certainly appreciate more the graphics of the game.
For instance, many new games have minimal hud, look at gtaiv, it's not like the past episodes.
Btw, it's only a simple option, and if you want you can keep it :)
Or try to play Grid/Dirt without the hud :)
