It's been a while since I've made a thread in this forum, so if I screw it up, I blame Josh.

For a bit I've been claiming - rightfully - that the 340bhp Infiniti M45 and 340bhp Infiniti Q45 sedans are the most powerful Japanese cars ever to be sold (stock) in America. So here's my question: Are they the most powerful Japanese cars ever to be sold anywhere?

The Skyline was rated at 276bhp but even a liberal estimate only gives it about 320bhp stock. I don't know much about Japanese home-market cars, so if anybody knows of a Japanese car with more than 340bhp stock, tell me about it, otherwise I'll go on believing that the M45 has won yet another category. ('best mid-luxury sedan,' 'best rear-drive car,' 'sex on wheels,' 'better than a 5-series,' and 'best thing ever' are its current titles)

Though this would be the Q45's first victory in anything. Except poor resale values.

And no, the Titan only has 305bhp. It's big on torque not power.

Toyota Chaser???

Hey M5 you're right by my second hometown, Westort, how is the weather up there and what are you doing in Norwalk of all places???

The government of Japan has a power restriction of 280ps. So for example, they don't get the 300hp STi we get.

You know nothing. Educate (search) yourself or end (leave) yourself.

Hey doesnt know nothing, Japan did get a 280ps STi as were the GTRs, EVO Supra and Nsx due to the gentles agreement posted by GTR Guy

Didn't one of the Toyota Crown series cars have a V12 in it? That might have come close on the horsepower.

But I thought it only has '280PS'.

Correct me if I'am wrong

The FX45 has 340 hp, too. But I think you already knew that.

The 2002 Skyline GT-R Nur pushes 450 hp when unrestricted. Of course, Nissan restricted it back to 280 hp. I don't know if that counts.

The Subaru B11S concept has something around 400 horses. It hasn't been produced, and if it is, I don't know if it will have 400 ponies under the hood. That probably doesn't count.

One of the Toyota Supra specs must have gone over 340 hp, right?

The M45 and Q45 are the ugliest cars ever produced. It is sad that such great cars were produced with such hideous styling cues. I bet they would have done much better if Infiniti had put some effort into the looks of the cars. The FX45, on the other hand, is quite beautiful. Especially for an SUV.

I saw two M45s (red and black) on Monday and I think they look great, shame you don't see them that much. I think the entire Infiniti car line (not the SUVs) looks beautiful.

👍 they also restrict the other skylines with brass boost restrictors and they lock the injector duty cycle to 85% meaning your not getting your full potential....Plus if the car cant make that much power why put in a stock ignition system that can handle 1000+ HP?

I saw on a website dedicated to STi that the Subaru Impreza STi 22B has around 350ps. Im not sure if that real or not. Yeah there was a Toyota Century it came with a V12 pushing "280ps" it was rated at. I would think it would push more than that but who knows. As for Supra didnt the European model push around 328hp that is the highest i know of.

Japan's STi even though rated at 280ps will push around 300hp same as the USA model, when dynoed. Almost every japanese sport car has more power then it claimed. GTO (3000GT), LanEvo, WRX STi, Skyline, Supra, Etc...

I like the M45 a lot. I see a couple a day and, like the redesigned 5 and 7 series BMWs, they have grown on me. It's like fine wine, or coffee; they are acquired tastes.

The boost restrictor is easy, just pull off the hose and push it out.
You get 28 HP just for removing some stupid little brass plug.

The Factory fuel pressure regulator. It has a very low pressure. Why I have no idea. The max pressure is 30psi. Just swap in a new one and your good to go :)

Next just reprogram the ECU to fix the 85% injector duty cycle and you got more free HP.

Overall you get about 112 HP just fixing the crap that Nissan detuned. Slap on a bigger intercooler and a new boost controller and you will be runing 11's in no time :)

BTW the NUR spec has a full N1 racing enigne thats hand built in japan with all sorts of racing upgrades, only 1000 were made :)

Skyline GTR dyno chart
r34_ps_torque.gif

Looking at the R43 26DETT engine, Nissan's own power graph (in blue) shows torque peaking at 40.0 kgm @ 4,400rpm while delivering 245 PS.
At the peak power of 280 PS, the graph shows 29.5 kgm torque at @ 6,800 rpm.
Now, as PS = torque x rpm / 716, the official power and torque numbers all square up.

But we know this isn't correct, because of a Japanese industry understanding, so I put my standard R34 on Power Engineering's 4WD dyno, which showed peak power (in red) of 328 PS at 6,420 rpm! and peak torque (in yellow) of 39 kgm.

so nissan claims 280 actuall power with restrictions is 328 remove the restrictions and you have a 440 HP beast.

Nope - 315. It's the same engine, but gets less power.

What I'm hearing here that with the exception of some very exclusive special-edition-type Japanese cars, the M45 and Q45 really are the most powerful Japanese cars ever.

It's cold but bearable. I came here to see a nice-looking group of islands off Noroton Point (by boat).

Technically yes. The beginning of the end of the gentlemans agreement. However I refuse to accept the fact that the skyline is only 280 PS especially since the dyno shows 328 and even that is taking into consideration that its detuned :grumpy: Taking into consideration the horsepower that was there BEFORE the detuning at 440 it is the most powerfull. but yeah technically your right...:banghead:

I'd beleive it too, the freak. See, he's traveling so we can say whatever we want, because we know he doesn't go on the computer when he is on a big Doug-trip.

Or does he? He does. Oh well.

Yeah, he probably carries around a laptop with WiFi capabilities so he can log on to GTP and check out what we're saying. He sees everything. He knows everything. He is everything.

We're screwed.
