The Kraft Dinner Thread!

Mmm, let us all pray to the giant orange God of Mac-n-Cheese. With so many new varieties out now such as Sharp Cheddar, Extra Creamy, and Spirals, Kraft Dinner sure has changed a lot sonce my mom used to make it for me as a child. Back then, getting a boiled weiner thrown in was considered fancy.

I want to know what people like / dislike about this stuff. How do you like to eat yours? Any funny Kraft Dinner preparation stories?

I eat mine with ketchup. Some people think it's gross, but I know for a fact that I'm not the only one. My favourite new type is the Spirals, because all that is different from the original is the noodle type, and I find the spiral noodles hold onto the cheese sauce better than the macaroni.

I recently noticed they've taken the microwave directions off the box, and replaced them with some sort of healthy living prep instructions. Since I haven't cooked Kraft Dinner on the stove more than twice in my life, I wrote a letter to the company telling them I thought this was an unwise move. They gave me a typical corporate response. I actually had to go online to get the correct measurements for the water and milk. I was so annoyed!

Discuss!

You have never seen Kraft Dinner in your life? Is it possible such a delicacy is only available in Kanada? If so, I have a feeling this will be a low-traffic thread, aside from the "I have no idea what that is" posts...

I live in southwestern Ohio, I don't know...maybe Ohio is just weird :) (I'm a cashier, I see all the items in the store come through)

I eat a whole box now, but there's a hell of a lot of salt in it, not to mention calories. The figures on the nutrition chart on the box are only for 1/4 of a box, so you have to multiply each number by four if you eat the whole box. Plus, all the figures don't include any amounts from the butter/margarine and milk you add to it. All in all, it's not a really healthy meal.

But yes, it is indeed quite tasty.

Man, I remember I used to always eat a bag of Kraft Mac-n-Cheese when I get home from elementary school. I thought it was the best thing in the world. Then, once, for some reason, I threw up after eating some. Never ate any Mac-n-Cheese after that. :yuck:

I make my own mac & cheese.

3 Tbls. Flour
3 Tbls. Butter
8 oz. Milk
1 tsp. Salt
Fresh Cracked Black Pepper
10 to 16 oz. Tillamook Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Heat up the butter in a sauce pan. When melted, slowly and gradually stir in the flour, salt and pepper. Once well combined, slowly and gradually stir in the cup of milk. Once well combined and heated for a few moments until very smooth, slowly and gradually stir in the shredded cheese. Add to six to eight cups of cooked macaroni noodles.

True enough, and it hardens up and the noodles stick together and get all bloated from sitting in the cheese sauce too long. Then it becomes nearly impossible to clean off the bowl you ate it in unless you soak it for a while.

Krappy Dinner has changed my life. I love it and forever will. I sometimes cook up a box and eat it on my own, just for fun, even if I'm not hungry. It's amazing. Thank you Kraft (which is a Canadian company, I believe).

Any funny Krappy Dinner experiences? Well, when some friends are over we make several boxes at a time, so the proportions are all off and too many/little ingredients are added. Yeah, all there is is butter and milk, but somehow it gets messed up anyways. And we end up arguing and splashing boiling water on each other. It hurts, but the KD is so tasty...

Anything custom eating techniques? Well, I was raised to eat it strictly with a fork, but I recently changed over to a spoon. I find I can get more noodles per spoonfull than noodles per forkfull, so I get more in my mouth. I am often forced to drink it with milk because it gets clogged in a big ball while going down because of the volume I eat it at, and the milk helps it go down to my tummy easier. Sometimes when my family makes some, I can't enjoy an entire box to myself, so I add flaked tuna to help it hit the bottom. You should try it, very tasty.

I wish I was joking, but I'm not.

It's called Kraft Macaroni and Cheese over here. ...The cheesiest. I used to eat the Rugrats mac and cheese from time to time when I was little.

I wouldn't touch it now, though. That stuff is hella gross, AND gives you projectile stool samples.

I've seen those boxes everywhere at where I work...just not under that name, just under mac and cheese or variants

I can't eat the stuff without throwing up. If my girlfriend starts cooking it, I have to open the window and go in the other room because even the smell will cause me to gag.
Long story as to why, goes back to when I was 3-4 years old and the babysitter I had would beat me and not let me leave the table till I ate my bowl of KD everyday, basically tramatized me for life with the stuff.

Only time I eat macaroni & cheese is at KFC, as a side with the meal. I hate the kind that comes in the box, including Kraft one's. :yuck:

P.S. Now I know why Barenaked Ladies called it "Kraft Dinner".

Have you tried the Stouffer's Mac & Cheese? Those are great if you don't have the time or ingredients to make your own. Stouffer's, with a bologna samich for dippin', are the best.

I don't care for Kraft Deluxe Dinners anymore. They're too salty for me, but I still like how they taste.

👍 Solid Lifter's knows how it's done...not really that hard and tastes way better...I like to throw a small can of crushed tomatoes in mine for something that resembles vegetables...

I think the only time I consume macaroni and cheese is when my mom and I make it Tuscan style with broccoli and carrots.

What about my favorite? Maruchan Ramen! :D
I used to love them, especially the Nissin kind. I ate so much of those, now they make me sick. Now, I'm into the frozen kind that you can get in oriental grocery stores. Costs around a buck per serving, you have to boil two separate hot water(1 for the noodles, 1 for the soup), but it's worth it. I actually bought a pack today. :D

Ahh, yes. Let us not forget the dark side of Kraft Dinner, the date it automatically makes for you with your toilet bowl. This doesn't happen to me all the time when I eat KD, but every now and then, about 5 hours after eating a box, it hits and it hits hard! Sometimes I'm even in danger of not reaching the bathroom in time.

But no matter how many times this happens, I always go back for more. It must have crack in it...

Kraft Mac and Cheese is good and all but I prefer the Velveeta Shells and Cheese. It is still made by Kraft, but the cheese is Velveeta, which is always good.

I also make my own macaroni from a recipe my dad gave me. It is essentially cooked shell pasta, milk, and about 2/3 of a block of Velveeta. Adjust milk and Velveeta volumes to taste.

Also when the macaronis gets hard after it gets cool you just add sopme milk and microwave and then stir and microwave again. Add more milk if needed. This works with the box stuff too.

Hmm, I will try that. Except I usually eat the whole box and am left with the crusty mess to try and scrape off. However, sometimes I do cook a box with full intentions of eating it all, only to be floored by the halfway mark by the seeming gallon of noodles, milk, and cheese floating around in my severely bloated gut.

It's kind of nice to sit in a la-z-boy chair, unable to move, taking the most shallow breaths possible so as not to upset the volatile semi-digested mess in my stomach, lest it send me running for the toilet.

Ah Kraft Dinner. The favourite food of university students.

The way I prepare mine, instead of using the magarine/butter as suggested, I substitute olive oil. Gives it a unique, sharp flavor, and also makes it healthier. Also, when I was at home, I always made it in the microwave. I don't notice a difference between microwaved and boiled kraft dinner.

evilgenius, you used to eat it in a bag? Explain!

Well, when I was young, they sell a giant box of Mac-n-Cheese, with small, seperate bags of dry macaroni and cheese powder. You add water to the macaroni first, microwave it for a while, and then add the cheese powder.

VELVETTA(sP)!!! Sorry for the caps lock and looking liek a newb but i love that stuff, in shells too. upon further reading i saw rmane. Yea i love that stuff too. The nissin kind that comes in the brick is my fave, mainly becuase it doesnt have the vegetabels and junk. Just noodles. When I go to college im goiong to have my cabnets stocked with ramen velvetta.
