Julianna Pena was pretty impressive in the Ultimate Fighter. She could rise to be a contender, but who knows if she will be good enough.

I think Ronda's judo skills make her able to toss people around like ragdolls. Maybe Ronda will be retired by the time a woman with her skill level is in the UFC.

She's somehow managed to build a lot of upper body strength within the 135 pound limit... the question is whether Cyborg could do the same. Then again, there's the question of whether Cyborg could even cut that much weight, considering how big she is... looking it up, she's 170 pounds before she cuts down for fights. Whereas Ronda is naturally at 135, already.

-

I doubt Ronda would ever concede to meeting Cyborg at 145, either. Might end up like Pacquiao... lose speed while bulking up... and lose some of that incredible quickness.

-

Seems like any fight between the two will be a mismatch, whatever weight they're at. And one camp or the other will always be carping about having to make that weight.

-

Be a shame if the two never meet. Without Cyborg, it's likely that yes, Ronda will retire before meeting a fighter that can beat her.

Cyborg is already known her for sheer power, so I doubt upper body strength is an issue for her. She's nowhere near 170lbs., though. She's expected to start cutting early next year after her next fight at 140 against an unnamed opponent.

Good fight for Honda. My next fight is 140lbs, then I hope we get a chance to give fans the WMMA fight the most violent fight in the history of MMA!

The problem with Cyborg is the roids. That physique is not natural. If I were Ronda and considering fighting here, I'd require her to submit to random drug testing for at least 12 months before I'd step into the ring with her.

To her defense, she was caught in December 2011 & has passed every random test since. I think Ronda is just being stubborn by claiming she can get to 135 if she lays off the roids when she hasn't been tested positive in close to 4 years now.

Doesn't look like she's on roids there. But you can definitely tell she's done them in the past, or has done some kind of hormone therapy. Very hard to keep that kind of muscle mass at that low of a BF%. She's cut down so much her cheeks are drawn.

Anyway, what's the deal with how hype this MMA crap is? That fight between Ronda and Correia totally sucked. It's just two apes in a pit.

If anything, they should have some rules on knockdowns and submissions. Knockdowns should be counted out like in boxing. Submissions end the round. If they scored best of 3,5,7 rounds or something, that would be much better. But they can't do that because the object of MMA is to beat the other guy's head into a pulp. Such a stupid thing.

I said they said the fight sucked. Cause it did.

Not apes, girls. :sly:

Though really, it's not about beating the other's head to a pulp, but more about making them give up. There's a few ways to do that and to figure out the best way to do that is part of the challenge.

The whole point of MMA is the winner wins. No "technical KOs", no points victories (yeah, that happens, but still) and no standing eight counts. If you're out, you're out. In a real fight, the other guy isn't going to let you sleep it off for ten seconds before kicking your brains in.

That said, the UFC has had to evolve into what it is today to keep the fights more TV friendly. No breaking limbs (on purpose), no tearing noses off of people's faces. Faster action. Time limits. I recall one of the earliest UFC fights I watched, with Tank Abbot versus that Russian wrestler... where both guys had to be carried out. They were so tired.

The fight itself wasn't great. Not Rousey's fault. But holy hell did Bethe promise shedloads more than she could deliver.

But MMA isn't sport. It's more like gladitorial munus. You wouldn't send a prime steak to mince. Likewise, MMA is but a collection of all the scraps. Minced martial arts.

Then why the walking weight of 170, and required 6-10 months to even work off 30+? I don't give Floyd Mayweather much, but I can give him this, he is always in fighting condition - No walking weight. Rousey? Same thing. I don't expect much out of Cyborg, but I at least would like to see some kind of believable fitness out of MMA fighters.

Andersen Silva suspended one year and fined $400k by the Nevada State Athletic Commission today for a failed drug test before his Jan. 31 bout against Nick Diaz. The suspension is retroactive to Jan. 31, 2015. Silva would have to submit a clean test before getting re-licensed. The result of the UFC 183 fight against Diaz, which was a unanimous decision win for Silva, is now officially a no-contest.

This also happened at his NSAC hearing...

NSAC trolled the hell out of Silva hard! Using the defence that he took "sexual performance" medication, and that it was unknowingly to him contaminated with the banned substance. He has really made a mockery of himself, such a shame, from the "greatest" in world matrix like movement, to getting knocked out, leg snapped and turned into a laughing stock.

Nick Diaz is also most likely screwed, 3rd? offence for weed, will most likely get an insane fine, probably bankrupt him, and end up never fighting again I fear, which is unfortunate, but weed is a banned substance and if he keeps breaking that rule it's hard to defend him despite the fact I don't think weed should be considered in the same vain as other performance enhancing drugs.

UFC vs. The State of New York is happening. The UFC has filed suit against the state for its 1996 "MMA" (using the term very loosely here) ban, the only state in the US that actively has one. The case argues that said ban is unenforcible, with Dana White arguing that the state has held MMA (as interpreted today) events since 1996.

White claims that the UFC ban originated from Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, White's partners when he bought the UFC. The Fertitta brothers run the only gaming company that is not union supported, and that runs afoul of NY's Culinary union who lobbied for the UFC ban.

As I said some time ago the division was built around her so I'm unsure if it was "hype" as we'd call it, or simply something more. I will not pretend to know the ins and outs of the sport as I don't watch it. In fact, this match and the bout back in August (?) were the only two events I've ever watched that weren't talked up to me beforehand.

I will say one thing though, Ronda's game is all about ground and pound and she really had no business trying to outpace Holly as a striker. it was just one misstep after another and she paid for it.

If there is a rematch I expect her to be a lot smarter and not appear to rush through the fight expecting it to end in 10 seconds.

I thought it was a bit poor of the ref to let 2 more punches through when she was clearly out of it on mat; its those shots when the fighter is not defending themselves that cause long term damage 👎.

Striking worked for her in the last match, so she likely thought she could fight a stand-up game. But even so, her striking last time was not all that accurate or polished... I don't know what she was thinking playing that game against an accomplished boxer/kickboxer like Holm. That kick was partly bad luck, but Holm was already dominating her before it, so even without it, Rousey was in trouble.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I expect Rousey to be smarter next time, as well.

She tried to out-box a boxer and it backfired on her. Her tactics should have been to get her on the mat as quickly as possible.

In the world of combat sport, there's always a chance of one hit knockout. It doesn't care if you're the best, the highest ranking, hyped or the highest paid in sport. It will hit you and take everything away from you.

Agreed. She(they) got reckless. If her plan was different, I'm sure she would have won.

I expect the rematch to be a different fight. I know Rousey is a good fighter, but I couldn't believe she tried to out box a boxer. Holm's footwork made Ronda look sloppy.

Holly Holm's UFC 193 win in doubt due to her link to a supplement company that produces items that contain banned substances. Holm signed the sponsorship deal with Intel Pharma for only one fight [How convenient], and the company, according to CEO Landon Suggs, have stopped producing the products since June, hasn't done anything to stop people from selling the roided products online.

One of the supplements in question does contain Prohomone, a substance banned in the US since 2005.

Holm mentioned Intel in three Instagram posts, two thanking the company for the supplements, and a third mentioning that she uses the amino acid formula Azid, which helped her get "leaner, harder and keep training as intense as ever!"

Bodybuilding.com explains that Azid is an anabolic performance BCAA that alleviates muscle fatigue and helps to speed up recovery from training. The product is not one of the items labled as SARM, which are likened to steroids whose effects are similar to testosterone.

Rousey, for her part, faced the same controversy during her UFC reign. She had a business sponsorship with Gaspari Nutrition from 2012 to 2014, a company that allegedly made steroid containing supplements. She has submitted nine separate samples for testing, and her drug test results came back clean.

Holm has not yet issued a statement regarding her partnership with Intel Pharma.
