Welcome to the all-new GTPlanet! Let me explain some of our new features so you can use the site to its fullest potential...
New Features and Changes
New font sizes are in place. You can change the font to any size you want in your browser (In Internet Explorer, click "View" and then "Text Size". The site was designed with the "Smaller" setting in mind.)
Thread ratings in threads moved to top of thread page.
Individual forum search is available inside that specific forum.
ICQ/AIM/Yahoo icons viewable with each of your posts. These will update and change according to your online status with the various services.
vBCode bug fixed. You will now be able to click on a smilie or vBCode feature and have that code inserted at the current location of your cursor (before, any clicked vBcode was inserted automatically at the bottom of your message).
The number of threads a member has started is now visible in their profile.
New forum statistics have been added, which display the top posters, top posters in the last month, and top posters in the last 24 hours. The same software also tracks a current list of member referrals each member has accumulated, as well as referring URLs, visitor's countries, etc.
You can now find new posts since your last visit in each individual forum, by simply clicking on the little yellow arrow next to the forum title and description. Of course, if it's a yellow arrow, you will see the new messages, and if it is gray, you will receive an error.
The number of users online at the current time the page was last loaded is always displayed at the top of the forums. You can click on this to see what each user is doing at the moment.
More than 200 new smilies have been added to our database. Click on "Get More Smilies" to see them all.
A larger number of smilies (16) now appears in the area next to where you type your messages.
A new AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) has been created for the forums, which everyone who uses the forums agrees to. It can be found at https://www.gtplanet.net/aup.htm.
New arrow icons have been included in the forums (indicating new posts in threads, etc.).
Any image attachments (in JPEG, GIF, or BITMAP files) now automatically appear in posts they are attached to. If you notice that you cannot see a file, and receive the "Red X", this is because you are logged out of your account (guests are not allowed to view attachments).
The "Users currently browsing this forum..." option has been moved to the bottom of the forum page.
But, what about the spell checker we were supposed to have?
Unfortunately, the only good spell checker out there, SpellChecker.net, has discontinued their free services. And, because their new subscription services are prohibitively expensive, this feature has been left out of GTP 4.0.
The GTPlanet Network
Just what is the GTPlanet Network? As you've probably noticed in the upper right-hand of your screen, the GTPlanet Network will consist of four sites (including forums.gtplanet.net). Let me explain in a little more detail:
-- GTPlanet.net: GTPlanet will become much more focused on the Gran Turismo series. Instead of being wishy-washy about the whole automotive/gaming topic of the site, GTP's getting back to its roots as the ULTIMATE source for Gran Turismo information. As you have probably noticed, the Car of the Week, Photo of the Day, Multimedia, News, etc. have not made the move to the new site because they are not directly related to Gran Turismo games. But, have no fear, they've got their place on another one of the new sites...
-- Forums.GTPlanet.net: These forums will continue to serve as the heart of the GTPlanet Network, connecting all the sites and all their visitors in one place.
-- SportsCarSpot.com: One of my new projects, SportsCarSpot.com, will allow me to post automotive info without having to worry about how appropriate it is on GTPlanet. Expect lots of content, videos, downloads, photos, and much more! I will also be seeking strategic alliances with other webmasters to ensure that SportsCarSpot is the best site in it's class. Popular features such as the Car of the Week, Photo of the Day, and the KPH/MPH converter will make their return here.
-- HOTorNOTcars.com: Have you ever been to HOTorNOT.com, where you rate other people's photos? It's a LOT of fun, and I figure, why not let people do that with their cars? I hope it provides a great way for you to kick back for a few hours and let other folks know what you think about their pride and joy!
So, if you've got any questions, comments, or criticizisms about the new GTPlanet or the GTPlanet Network, start asking and I'll try my best to answer them. I hope you like the new look!
