Woot! Great to see some fellow percussionists! I'm pounding a 7-piece Pearl Masters MHX kit with the Zildjian ZXT 4 Pro (14" Solid HiHats, 16" Medium Thin Crash, 20" Medium Ride) and ZXT Expander (18" Medium Thin Crash, and 18" Total China).

I love the sound of the mahogony on the MHX kit. There's such a deep, rich sound to the kit compared to most others.

Hi guys, just saw the thread.I got my first set 5 years ago,and i still have it.Started to play in 3rd grade, but with many pausing through the years. My set is POS old Amati with Zildjian ride cymbal, that was bought for approx. 150$.Set is 6 piece, that was originally 4-piece.Anyway,i'm playing by hearing, dunno how to read tabs, need to learn that.
Nice to see good amount of drummers on GTP,keep up the good work 👍

Ahh, forget the tabs. Practice some different rythms and stuff and just play with what you feel. Tabs can give you an idea of what to play, but you have to play what you feel. Put your personality into the music.

Oh? That confident hey?

Got any recordings or anything of you playing that I could hear?
Im just curious, though I know you are good.

Well, I suppose I could somehow record myself drumming, and send it to you.
Nevertheless, who of you out there could possibly explain what the best 'addition' to your kit was?

Well, I mixed the new kit I bought off my cousin with my dad's old kit, and I got the hi-hats from the new kit and separated them so as to make more cymbals

Come on people, where are all the drummers? We need more. Maybe even start an exclusive club "Official GT-Planet drummers"

I'm here! The best addition to my set? Hm...

My 18" Projection Crash is really, really great. I was really due for a new cymbal when I got it, so it made all the difference. My Pork Pie Black Brass snare is also great, though...

So to answer your question, I don't know.

Well, I have my guys down at my local drum store tracking down a Chrome Cobra double-pedal as we speak, which should prove to be the best addition yet. The reason I chose a King Cobra is that they are solid, powerful and great looking pieces compared to the rest of the opposing market.

It was meant to be a christmas present, but due to parental circumstances, it is due for March or earlier.

Oh, and I never knew double-kick's were so bloody expensive, as I dare you to ask how much this chrome equipment costs... :indiff:

I've noticed, whenever I drum for a long time ( half hour - an hour or more), I always get a huge, annoying blister on my right thumb, in the same place every damn time :grumpy: .

Must be the way I hold the sticks, and how my style of drumming almost always incorporates rolls.

Sounds like you need to muscle up rooster!

I haven't played in years and I really wish I had the room to put a drumkit and get back in to it again :(

Songs like Panic Attack by Dream Theater just make it worse every time I hear them

Haha, you got that right buddy. I'm 6ft 1", about 63 kilo's and built like a stick. But I don't think muscling up will help my blisters on my thumb. Maybe I should tape up my thumbs with electrical tape, get the whole drummer look goin, no shirt, ciggie hangin out me mouth (nah, maybe not that, I don't smoke, thank god!).

Although, I might need to work my leg muscles more, if I use the kick alot, my leg muscles start to get a bit sore. Plus my arms get a bit sore too :grumpy: .

Oh well, it's all for a good cause, MAKING LOTS OF NOISE hahaha 👍

The blister on your thumb is very common for drummers when it is exposed to prolonged friction.

Are you using grip-sticks (Thin layer of elastic rubber covering bottom-half of stick) or standard? You shouldn't really have a problem with standard wood-based sticks, but I used to find gripped ones posed problems.

Nevertheless, I'm sure if you keep on playing, the skin there will toughen, protecting itself from these issues; I don't get them anymore.

I use normal wood sticks, they're chipped to the ****house
I will definately keep playing for a long time 👍 :)

I'd be more worried about getting splinters than blisters then. ;)

Oh, my sticks are only chipped from about halfway up to the tips. Probably because I always hit the cymbals with the meat of the stick. Sounds better 👍

Anyone know where I can download awesome drum solos from? Videos and/or audio clips. I've searched it on Ares, not much comes up....

Wow uber bump here! Don't want to start a new thread when there is already one :P

Anyway, im just starting out, and wondering if anyone could tell me how exactly do you learn to play the drums by ear...

I want to be able to read tabs of course, they're rather simple, but learning by ears sounds like a really good thing to do! However at the moment I am crap at it, any tips on improving? (Or is it just something you pick up?)

Cheers
