Below is among one of the best races I've had against the AI so far. A 5 lap race at Oulton Park with the Group A BMW M3 E30. The different weather slots (30x progression) makes for such interesting races, I honestly don't think I can ever go back to a racing game that doesn't offer similiar options.

Glad you enjoyed it @doblocruiser! Uploaded another one - this time with the Mercedes 190E at Oschersleben. These Group A cars are such a blast racing. Love 'em.

From his perspective (PC Racer, Alien Type, iRacing/rFactor/GSCE player) a 7.5 is the best his peer group allows him to give. No triggers to go off on that for me.

As someone who is from the same line of games as Empty Box, I found the review very helpful in regards to managing my expectations. I'm still very much looking forward to PCars (my preorder still hasn't arrived after the Sydney warehouse floods), but most of all I see the groundwork laid that could make the sequel the racing game I've long been dreaming of.

I cannot promise, but i'm pretty sure you will have fun with PCars (1) too 👍

Oh, I agree with you completely. But one thing I've come to notice that I think we should all be aware of, is that PCars is bringing people in from all corners of the racing-game community, meaning that there will be a very diverse range of wants, needs and expectations when talking about the game.

In relation to the Empty Box review, I found it to be very informative in addressing the areas that are important to me in a way that is relevant to me.

And of course, this very thread has been a big part of managing my expectations. Those Group A videos....more of that, please! :D

I usually don't comment on EmptyBox videos but this last one amazed me in so many ways.

Holy crap, I have never seen a more close minded and negative YouTuber in my life. It is very obvious his view on Project CARS was made up on day 1 and it won't ever change. It doesn't matter if it became the go to training tool for F1 and WEC drivers, it still wouldn't be a racing sim just a racing game to him.

Question, did anyone notice how he had actual examples to defend his point about career mode and the AI yet when he talked about physics and wet weather driving all he could come up with was "it isn't realistic". If that doesn't make you question his video then you should go outside and make sure the sky is blue and the sun is yellow where you live.

Something that really really irritates me is when people claim something isn't realistic, racing game or anything else for that matter, yet they have zero real world experience in the field that they are claiming isn't realistic. :odd:

Question, if people who race FOR A LIVING tell you what's realistic and what's not, the game is then designed around those core principles and then tested by those said racers for 3+ years to ensure it matches the reality it was designed around, how can you claim it's not even close to reality?

Let me remind everyone that there are drivers from top level FIA series that also helped develop the game and use it as a training tool.

Want another question? Ask yourself why such talented drivers would say publicly they use Project CARS as a training tool if it didn't help them? These drivers are not being sponsored by SMS by the way.

If your going to be an armchair quarterback don't tell the world how to run an offense.

Before someone tells me it's just EmptyBox's opinion, understand that the way he talks it's more like he's telling you his opinion is the truth. There is also a BIG difference when someone who has influence on the community makes a review video and when someone who doesn't have an influence makes a video.

Well I'm someone that has used IRacing,RFactor and GSCE extensively. Hell, I have all the PC sims there are to have as well as GT on console. I have been Sim Racing for years and years and played many racing games before the internet was even a thing. I disagree with some of what he says about the AI.
They do need to be made faster though on some tracks for sure.
If I were to review the game if would be a 9 out of 10.

There's truth to this, but there are ways of objectively evaluating physics without needing that real world experience. It helps to perform repeatable tests and go over the details of what is or should be happening.

Simply saying, "it isn't realistic" isn't enough, of course.

I enjoy EmptyBox's videos and I think he's an excellent driver, but I agree with you.

He put out a video earlier this week called, "Project Cars: Understanding the Hype" where he blasts the game just because a lot of people were excited for it. He gave a ton of reasons about how everyone is only going to like it because it was crowd funded and it's in everyone's best interests if the game does well.

As someone who wasn't a WMD member and has no monetary stake in the game, I thought his video was petty and it seemed like he was just ripping on the game because it was generating hype. He seems hell bent on not giving the game credit and honestly comes off as an elitist the majority of the time. There's no pleasing him, so I kind of take his review with a grain of salt.

EDIT: Here's the video for anyone interested.

I take most everything with a grain of salt on the Internet, but people who are interested in the game and then watch his video on it need to understand what I said with my post.

Review from Empty!!

Fair, knowing what Empty Box prefers I didn't expect anything much different. As for the career, I can't agree with him if we compare to most everything else. At least there is a career, rFactor 2, Assetto Corsa, iRacing, ...not so much. As for the AI comments, I agree to a point but again better than most, not as good as others, still needs fine-tuning in my opinion but I can have some very good AI races.
Many trust Empty Box reviews, I'm one of them. But, when it comes down to it, it is still an "opinion". That doesn't mean I'm saying he's wrong on any point, but helps me to know his preferences. It's always best to use a large sampling size (many reviews in this case) if needed for a purchasing decision.
