I'm not a big fan of stoner rock, but I like a few by C of C. Pantera's cover of Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan also leans towards stoner rock and is a very cool song.

Ok man sorry. Enough said already, guess I was just mad u knocked hendrix. But I do see what ur sayin on all ur points. Ur description in ur last post to me definitly sumed it up. I guess I'm just into jam bands then, my bad. Keep rockin!

Electric Wizard is my favorite of the stoner doom, excellent stuff. Eyehategod fan? Sweet! Quite possibly the heaviest band in existence.

I love Eyehategod.

Also I have to give a nod to my local fave's, the Melvins. More sludge than stoner, but Bullhead, Ozma, Houdini, and Gluey Porch Treatments are all fantastic.

:dunce:

hmmm..did it work this time?..if not I'll try again later..

nope..man,what am i doing wrong?..lol

btw..love the EW-Return Trip..that opening riff sends chills down my spine..awesome!!!

put the video code in between the tags: [ YOUTUBE]EOcK2Rqgc9I[/ YOUTUBE]

without the spaces it looks like:

Wait is this music to listen to when your high? Rock is the LAST type of music you want to listen to when your high!!

I'm high when I listen to any type of music. As a matter of fact, I'm high when I do anything. HAIL THE LEAF!:dopey:

You clearly don't love the riff. It's definitely not for everyone. I love hip hop when I smoke, or the same sad ******** I listen to when I'm not. But in my opinion, a slow heavy groove is the perfect companion.

I dont know it kinda brings me down, guitars too peicing and i dont like the vocals much. You really want something ambient and smooth so it can take you away without realising. A slow heavy groove like you say is great but I just cant hear it in this music. Maybe its just me, no biggy.

You also have to remember that "stoner rock" is a genre of music and not necessarily indicative of the musicians or listeners mental state or herbal desires.

Agreed. It's like how people think that people who are into death metal are psychos and sociopaths when in reality most death metal fans/ musicians are very family oriented with a wife/ husband and children.

Anyway, here's a nice little dittie for everyone:

Brings you down? Stoner/Desert rock is supposed to be uplifting, make you feel good. Doom is the melancholy side of Stoner. It all started with Kyuss in the Palm Desert jamming the night away not having to worry about making to much noise or being caught for possession. Hence the two different genre names for the exact same genre. I always think its just Homme being a whinny bitch.

Imagine listening to this in the desert watching the sunrise and smoking the green. Bliss.

Their are so many aspects of the genre, every band does it differently.

Some bands keep their 60's and 70's roots of heavy psychedelia...

Some are more bluesy...

Mixed with punk but keep the fuzz and California lingo.

Instrumentals...

Ambiance?

Ok no more spam +)

Man i gotta learn to post those videos..ha!

but til then..Does anyone like 35007 or Monkey3?..Colour Haze? I suppose they'd mostly be considered "Space Rock" or Psychadelic, but some consider them stoner rock as well i think..

Slow and Heavy, plus they're mostly ....or at least partly instrumental..

I would like to introduce band called Slowbirth

Slowbirth is a Finnish heavy grooved band and was founded in 2009. Songs are often slow and sludgy, melodic, even beautiful (though most of the time in a nasty sort of way). But once that passes it turns around and a full bloom, raw rock and roll truck rams by.

Here you can listen new demo songs

http://www.myspace.com/slowbirth

This video is from first gig in Finland 24.9.2011, band performed with Truckfighters.

Thanks for the link Rag. I'm defiantly down with the slow sludgy side of Stoner.. They played with Truckfighters too... Good band to get a gig with, as they have some of the most fuzzgasmic jams out there. Digging the vocalist too.

Its amazing how many Swedish/Finnish Stoner bands there are.

Been digging a new Canadia stoner band called Barn Burner. I can't help but the get the feeling their taking a page from Red Fang in video making. Definitely a plus as they know how to entertain! Also digging the leg guitar, perhaps a Karma to Burn influence. :sly:

They definitely remind me of Red Fang with their catchy as all hell lyrics.

I don't know too much about the genre, but I loves me some Sleep, Electric Wizard and Acid Witch.

You've come to the right place, awesome stuff you mentioned. I was going to mention seeing the bassist play his other band Black Cobra but then I realized I was think of Acid King and not Acid Witch haha.. Coincidentally Black Cobra is a sludgy, doomy duo also... Though they are from SF and not Detroit.

Awesome additions to the thread mate! The European stoner scene is freakin' massive. A lot of them never make it out here which bums me out. A lot of the names seemed new to me but last.fm says that I've listened to of them already. Thanks for the links. Rotor has a bunch of their stuff for free on their website, along with their last.fm page and myspace page.

Some more bands I've been digging on for a while

Elder
http://youtu.be/Y48mDuY8rI0

Sasquatch
http://youtu.be/0LdNYsWmNXI

Asteroid
http://youtu.be/HH_iWqzXddw

Ancestors
http://youtu.be/q2Ci8jAqRVE

Ancestors I find are kind of interesting, they do this whole NeurIsis/Pink Floyd thing really well, but I can only take it in small doses.

Elder's new album 'Dead Roots Stirring' however seems to be the beginnings of an American answer to Colour Haze, which I can listen to all day. Some seriously good stuff going on with Elder, and those guys are only like 21 or 22.

Don´t know if this can be considered Stoner Rock, specialy because Stereolab doesn´t reminds this genre at all, but specificaly this tune somehow have a huge flavor of QOTSA.

If your looking for Stoner Rock QOTSA is not exactly the band to compare it too. The only reason why they are labeled that at all is because of Josh Homme who was in Kyuss. But QOTSA's music has very little in relation to Stoner Rock, no fuzz, bass isn't as predominate.

Speaking of Josh Homme.. More news on the front of him and Reeder suing ex-band mates.

On whether the federal lawsuit filed by Josh and Scott in March came as a surprise:

Brant Bjork: Was I surprised? As far as Scott is concerned, yes, I was very surprised. I wasn't surprised by Josh at all. They don't want to mention that they trademarked the name KYUSS after I left the band, assuring that I had no rights in KYUSS' future. They're both accusing John and I of doing something that they actually did themselves. Their inner conflict is this: both Josh and Scott want control and money from KYUSS LIVES!, but they don't want to participate and they ultimately don't want us to exist. The double standard is unbelievable.

The Juice.

Honestly, I think if Josh never publicly speaks its not soon enough. I'm so sick of his egotistical ass. Its okay, because in the end Brant is the better riff maker and doesn't need to sell out to make a living.

I think it's time for a revival of this thread, so here's some more fuzzy goodness:

Back in the day, QOSTA had more than a few stoner rock songs on their first album. Here's some of them:
