Sure, there were a lot of things that I was sorely disappointed with in GT5.
The playdoh damage models.
The lack of TEST TRACK and Midfield, more stumped on the test track.
Grinding XP on top of Credits, because grinding is so fun?
No changeable wheels, carbon fiber hoods, or aero/racing kits for 800 of the cars and no Photomode for them either.
No real customizable transmission.
No Youtube upload.
The gripes go on and on, and many of them I can overlook and solider on to what makes GT5 work for me. I'm just now starting to get real comfy with it and began building up my Standard Car collection and this is when I discovered perhaps the most unfortunate flop in the game which used to be the most interesting in GT4...
The Used Car Dealership.
What makes this so irritating is that PD really could have done better, and GT2 is proof; a rather static list (or at least you could depend on it to pick up cars that you need or wanted) tucked away in their respective dealerships in Japan. It was actually useful, grindless, and easy. The concept seemed to be an ongoing thing, and for the most part it was except the implementation changed from a static list to a rotating one.
Displays 24 cars out of the 800 standard models. Only 6 out of the 24 is cycled per day. It takes 4 days to cycle the entire lot. Welcome back to grinding as if you didn't have enough of that... and lets face it, I'm sure the UCD has stumped your own progress (think classic car, trucks, FGT hunt).
For example, and this is one of the reason I needed to vent on this subject... I'm trying to get the Supra RZ and this is how the UCD plays with your emotions...
Instead of just giving me the car, it will gladly give me every model/generation of competitors of the Supra RZ. It will even give me the Non-Turbo Verison, the SZ-R (even though I've only seen this model twice now). It will give me the older 2.5 Twin Turbo. It will give me every single GT version of it. It will give me everything except... the Supra RZ.
It will throw Veyrons at me. I've seen 4 Veyrons tonight alone.
It will throw the FGT at me, I've seen it at least 3 times since I started grinding for the RZ last week.
It's given me rare concept cars, race cars, tucks, vans, and everything in between...
I think I've gone through at least 200 full cycles by now, and not one single Supra RZ has shown up. It's kinda amazing to me seeing as how it was one of the iconic sports cars of the 1990s. I could go on Craigslist right now and find a couple of them on sale in just the area surrounding my county alone.
That's when it hit me... how terrible the UCD is and more annoying is that PD could've done better but just didn't and for no good reason other than probably it was easier to just do it this way. It is a big part of the game... this is where everybody starts out and sooner or later everybody relies on it. I need the feature for something I can only obtain through it and that's when it reveals it's true identity of the most annoying feature in GT5. 👎
