The UCD: The Most Annoying Feature in GT5?

Sure, there were a lot of things that I was sorely disappointed with in GT5.

The playdoh damage models.
The lack of TEST TRACK and Midfield, more stumped on the test track. :dunce:
Grinding XP on top of Credits, because grinding is so fun?
No changeable wheels, carbon fiber hoods, or aero/racing kits for 800 of the cars and no Photomode for them either.
No real customizable transmission.
No Youtube upload.

The gripes go on and on, and many of them I can overlook and solider on to what makes GT5 work for me. I'm just now starting to get real comfy with it and began building up my Standard Car collection and this is when I discovered perhaps the most unfortunate flop in the game which used to be the most interesting in GT4...

The Used Car Dealership.

What makes this so irritating is that PD really could have done better, and GT2 is proof; a rather static list (or at least you could depend on it to pick up cars that you need or wanted) tucked away in their respective dealerships in Japan. It was actually useful, grindless, and easy. The concept seemed to be an ongoing thing, and for the most part it was except the implementation changed from a static list to a rotating one.

Displays 24 cars out of the 800 standard models. Only 6 out of the 24 is cycled per day. It takes 4 days to cycle the entire lot. Welcome back to grinding as if you didn't have enough of that... and lets face it, I'm sure the UCD has stumped your own progress (think classic car, trucks, FGT hunt).

For example, and this is one of the reason I needed to vent on this subject... I'm trying to get the Supra RZ and this is how the UCD plays with your emotions...

Instead of just giving me the car, it will gladly give me every model/generation of competitors of the Supra RZ. It will even give me the Non-Turbo Verison, the SZ-R (even though I've only seen this model twice now). It will give me the older 2.5 Twin Turbo. It will give me every single GT version of it. It will give me everything except... the Supra RZ.

It will throw Veyrons at me. I've seen 4 Veyrons tonight alone.
It will throw the FGT at me, I've seen it at least 3 times since I started grinding for the RZ last week.
It's given me rare concept cars, race cars, tucks, vans, and everything in between...

I think I've gone through at least 200 full cycles by now, and not one single Supra RZ has shown up. It's kinda amazing to me seeing as how it was one of the iconic sports cars of the 1990s. I could go on Craigslist right now and find a couple of them on sale in just the area surrounding my county alone.

That's when it hit me... how terrible the UCD is and more annoying is that PD could've done better but just didn't and for no good reason other than probably it was easier to just do it this way. It is a big part of the game... this is where everybody starts out and sooner or later everybody relies on it. I need the feature for something I can only obtain through it and that's when it reveals it's true identity of the most annoying feature in GT5. 👎

When you go to a race which has a preset criterion/criteria, for example FF Challenge, but your current car is a MR or FR etc, the interface should show you a list of your garage cars which are FF, and you should be able to choose from that list without having to go out of the race, then out of the race series, then out of the race level then into the garage.

It does do this... just got to the race and click the garage icon in the bottom right hand corner. 👍

To offer an opposing viewpoint: I like the UCD. I like that you can't just get some cash then buy exactly what you want. By making the cars rotate randomly through you get a sense of excitement when something cool turns up, and also introduced you to cars you never knew about. In fact, where I am now (level 24 with only a couple of events to do) the UCD is the main part of my game; going off and doing a couple of races, then checking UCD for something I might like.
If the 1.05 patch does indeed have a market place where players can trade cars then (a) you'll be able to buy exactly what you want, and (b) those cars will be more valuable because of how the UCD works, which I think is a good thing.

They could at least modify it a bit to make the cars that you need show up soon after you need them. For instance, if you're at a high enough level to do the Formula GT race, maybe they could have it show up once every 10 or 20 refresh cycles, instead of making you wait through 800 cars for it. That's pretty ridiculous.

Other than that I don't mind it too much.

Hm I like used cars. I think maybe if I buy the supra NA the rz will show up. Like I buy rug rgt then the later ones appear when I buy them. Not as annoying as ransomed prize tickets. NASCAR challenge modern muscle car: Taurus Sho. I sold it instantly out of spite.

I've never seen an FGT, ever. Got the game on release day, check the lot like its a religion (because once its gone you don't get another chance). I keep 5mil in buffer cash for the FGT when it comes around, and I've literally never ever seen one. I just want to finish that race because its the only thing holding me from having all the races golded in the series, but I cant because the UCD decides to literally never ever have one. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to have a race require a car you can only get by luck, but it just seems like a big plan to frustrate fans.

There is an icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen just before you select the track for the race you want which WILL show all the cars you own that are available for the race.

Sorry for off-topic comment, just felt it was neccessary

"BLASOS" If we are on the same page, then in that "event" all you have to do is go to the garage symbol in the bottom right hand corner of you're screen and it will show you what cars you can use for that "event". :)

The UCD ......... It is nice but, At the same time, I HATE IT:!. Once i became level 24 i started searching the UCD every 3 races for the FGT to appear. I searched for days at 8 hours a day, Only becoming madder every time i looked into the UCD because once again there was no FGT.

Finally in game day 777 It appeared.. Thanks :) lol
I do believe i started looking at day 500ish, Should it have taken that many days for that?.

Oh and "DEATHSARTHE" I agree with everything u said. lol :) Are you still looking for a Supra RZ ? I happen to have found one and bought it, If you still want one i will gladly give you this one. :)

Thanks to both of you, and apologies to PD!

Noticed Cerbera Speed 12 in UCD 2 races before it would disappear off the bottom. Was 100k short, so couldn't do my normal cash event (TGTT) as it wouldn't earn me enough. So I redid the german event (cape ring + nordschliefe), managed to win them both. Got back to UCD just before it vanished, very satisfied with myself. Opened it up, read the blurb. "A car that chooses it's driver". Nice, I thought. Then it chose not to have me, since I was only level 20 and it was locked to level 21!
I was raging, but it's stuff like that that makes the game memorable :)

I couldn't STAND the test track! I understand its use, but beyond 1 lap... yep thats top speed.... stilll top speed.... thumb is sore..... Lost will to steer.... Lost will to LIVE.... Quit.

I like my tracks to have both left AND right corners on it, but at least with daytona and indy you get to test the straight line speeds with some skill required in between.

Also, try SS7 in the arcade area (probably under practice as well), 2 VERY long straights to get to full speed if required.

Erm, the gearbox one is annoying.

Why no gear ratio tuning, only final drive? Half the cars would be much better with better gear ratios, rather than just longer or shorter ones.

Ie, Furai really needs revs, but is so light and fast in corners that it could use a 60mph 1st gear and be ok. Instead you end up with a load of gears just to get it rolling, then lose a close packed set of gears for the 80-180mph range.

That is a 'feature' that I would like changing. Maybe they unlock at level 30? 40?

Either way I've stopped buying racing gearboxes for most cars now as they don't really offer you much more vs £20k of extra tuning options (engine mods especially give more revs and so more speed that way too, + more power!)

The problem with the UCD is largely compounded by the grind/payout schedule of the events.

They should have had EITHER a rotating random UCD but lots of money to be made so you can always afford what shows up OR a static UCD with all cars available to go with the current payout system.

I prever to have a static UCD with all cars AND a good payout system, but the way it is now, both problems aplify each other.

I'm praying to the UCD gods to send me a Nardo... Has anyone seen it in there? If so, how many times?

4 time for me.

Back to the topic...

UCD is all about patience and luck, dude. ;)
I didn't get my Supra RZ until day 600+.
But i get R390 Road Version on day 256.
What i meant to say is luck play pretty much a role here. :P

I am in favor of the UCD becoming static with all cars available for offer. There's quite a few cars that I want that aren't premium and I don't want to miss out on an opportunity to buy a R92CP, my most wanted car. Therefore, once I finish FGT, all I have to worry about is credit.

At least there's the OCD as well, so I have a chance of getting it.

It actually displays 36 models :)
Before I had all the cars, I had to endlessly cycle the UCD.
I sat there and thought that a "Refresh" button would have been nice, as no skill is required to refresh the UCD anyways.
And refreshing it could have moved the game day forward by 6 days.

It's a good idea but the execution failed. They could have done so much better if they just followed the example of their previous games:

00's UCD
90's UCD
80's UCD
Classic UCD
special UCD (racing cars)

The freakin' game has 1000 cars, it's practically impossible to find what you want right now.

30 models actually....therefore 5 days to refresh the list.

Hm, I understand your pain. Out of 30 cars, I always get this:

- 4 Nissan GT-Rs
- 4 3000GT
- 4 Miatas
- I always get the same CLK
- Some random race cars
- One or two Muscle cars
- Some japanese cars from the 70s or 80s.

I have yet to see the GT ONE in the UCD. I checked after every race since I got the game, but I got no GT ONE and other cars (Bentley Speed 8, NSX-R Prototype LM Race Car) only appeared two or three times.

the online collector dealer ship is a good place to the formula grant turismo as it seems to always be in there and occasionally it has some good cars in there as well

Same story here:grumpy:. ****ing hate it. I've seen one when i was on A-spec lvl 6.

I've been cycling the UCD for a week because I refuse to buy a purple FGT. I'm stuck with only that series left to complete a and b specs except for endurance races. I must've loaded the license tests 50 times already win no FGT in sight. I've even tried looking it up in that master car list but it isn't even in list 1 and my UCD doesn't match up with anything in list 2. I'm going to give up if it's purple again on Wednesday night. So yes I completely agree that the UCD is the mody annoying thing about GT5 (tied with the AI pit manuevers).

At least they have tried to help, I remember when I had to use mygranturismo.net and had no clue of what I had from the UCD. Unlike today in which it tells you what you have. The horror of cycling through 5,000+ days without seeing a HSC Concept 04 when it was the last car I need to have all.

There is always one in the Online Dealership - what colour is it in yours?
That's the one that's purple. I'm hoping either I find an FGT in the UCD that isn't purple or that the color changes in the OCD to something other than that this week. Neither has happened yet. :(

Me too! I've been looking for the GT-One for a long time but never seen it. Plenty of Miatas and other piles of garbage though. 👍
