So its all happening in only 4 days, not that any of you have forgotten as you can't exactly get through the day without something reminding you of it

So whats your take? royalists or not? having a party? or are you just looking forward to another long weekend. I have to say although I'm not really into the whole royal thing I'l be watching it with a few people but not doing anything special.

One thing that I've wondered is what happens if someone stands up when they say the 'speak now or forever hold your piece' bit at the royal wedding, or someone has second thoughts? Oh noes times a million

Meh, it is getting A LOT of coverage, even over here, but it deserves it. It's pretty cool to see such a big spectacle since I wasn't alive during Diana's wedding, and we don't have anything like that over here. It'll be cool to see Westminster again, I was there for Eastern Service a few years ago and I went to Evensong and sat up in the front area. The worst part is, we were originally on planning to be there during the wedding, my mom and her friend wanted to go, but we couldn't because of time and money :grumpy:. Overall, it's pretty cool to see it happening. Yea it's a big deal, but it doesn't happen all the time so it doesn't bother me. Expect ET and and other entertainment "news" outlets that make a big deal out of it.

Kate is fine. That's all I really care about. I think actually watching the wedding would be completely boring. I don't see what all the interest in it is.

As happy as I am, I don't know why the US outlets are constantly making up news stories about it. They're going as far as to find out what kind of dress she'll be wearing, who the guests are, why they did this & that, etc. etc.

I don't care who made the cake & I don't care how they decided on their clothes. That's pointless 5 minute dribble.

Now, will I watch it? If I'm up at 3AM (that's what they've been reporting here), I might, but I'm not going to get up specifically for it. Esp. when the following day, it will be all over our media shows.

I also don't care where they will be going for their honeymoon. I genuinely don't understand the fascination in having to know all these things.

At least those are vaguely relevant to the actual service. We've been treated to things like hour-long programmes in which Diana's demise is (pardon the pun) dug up once again, under the premise that it somehow needs investigating to see what effect it'll have on Will & whatshername's marriage.

Lots of attention worldwide, we even have a blog here, which describes pretty much everything on the ceremony.

I won't be awake when the wedding begins but I would watch it in a hurry, it's like the Bahrain GP, you know it's late, you know you have to work the day after, but you'll still wake up at 3AM to watch the whole damn thing.

Question for the Brits...

...Do you really say prices like that?

Edit: Sorry for the cheesy US commercial, they usually do the same style commercial for "collector coins".

You guys get time off school for this???

I can't wait to watch the wedding. I have no idea why, I just know that I can't wait.

I'd rather look at a Queen Kate than a Queen Camilla.

I don't understand the fascination for it.

It's an easy thing to write about and to feature on 24 hour news channels. Its not like news channels ever have anything useful to say apart from how many people are dying in different parts of the world.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

How can I work the royal wedding into my year nine commerce-law class? I have no idea what to do with them, so I might as well just go with the flow. And somehow tie it back to consumer choice. Maybe something about all the knock-off products and tourist scams going on. There's stuff about that in the curriculum.

I'll take suggestions from the floor if anyone has them ...

I have no particular interest in other peoples weddings, unless it's close friends and family of course.

Luckily I'm flying to Tenerife on Friday morning and will then be spending the majority of my time outside.

Over here there isn't a company / retailer in the land not offering that replica ring as well as replicas of every damn dress Kate has worn since the engagement including the tight blue one (which BTW she looked pretty hot in :sly:). Funny thing is all these 'replicas' don't look exactly like the genuine article so whats the point :dunce:

Its going to be a grand and lavish event that we the people are partly paying for so you might as well enjoy the show. First major royal wedding I will have seen.

Robin.

I don't care at all about this, and many of my contemporaries seem to feel the same. In fact, many of us don't care at all about the Royals, the Queen or any of that. It has no relevance or bearing to us and only appears to serve as a tourism attraction for the rest of the world.
The only reason we have to care about this, is that we get the day off work while the weather is great.

I particularly hate the rest of the world asking me about it, or rather countries which don't have monarchs or this level of tradition. Unless you are really interested in the subject, most Brits only have a basic knowledge of the Royals and the history. Its not something taught a lot at school (or it wasn't when I was in school), I'm fairly sure most of my knowledge of it comes from general conversation, from my parents and from when I have visited various museums/historical places.

I like the history of it all, but I don't care for the fuss made over this particular wedding. I don't know either of them very well and the main reasons why you enjoy weddings are because you directly know the people (so you are happy to share their moment) and because you get drunk afterwards.

I guess I would watch if it was a coronation or something like that. I do like watching Trooping the Colour and stuff like that.

I guess what I'm saying in the end is that, its a boring wedding where I don't really know the people involved which is naturally talked about a lot. I guess I also hate the associated "to be British" national pride attached to it, like its not very British to not give a toss. I'll celebrate the day toasting being a tosser. :P

Are you sure it's not for Easter? Or is it those days off next week?

The Friday is a Bank Holiday for the wedding, the Monday is the first Monday of May, which is always a bank holiday. I know of many people who are taking this Tuesday, Weds and Thursday off, because for 3 holiday days, they got 11 days off work in a row.

I have no interest in this, owing to my utter hatred of living in a county where we have an inherited head of state (even if their powers are mostly useless and have been limited in some way since, well the Charter of Liberties in 1100, and are basically ceremonial) it's such a pathetic system and I'd be at my happiest to see it fall, not that it ever will. It's the 21st century, if no one's noticed.

If PSN is up, I'll spend the day MW2'ing. I feel that's quite apt.

Talk about the mark-up's that usually occur around the time of a special event or time of year, like the petrol prices jumping up just as school holidays start.

We're not far off....we have a public holiday tomorrow then wed, thurs, fri on, then we get the Monday off because of labour day in QLD. WIN! :D

You and me both!

I really don't see the big appeal of the Royal wedding, it a tremendous amount of taxpayer's money being wasted on a ceremony 70% of Britain don't give a **** about!

I don't go to college on a Friday anyway :(

I honestly don't care. I fail to see how it's the 'most important wedding of the century'. And it really does annoy me that the seating plan(!) of a wedding that probably occurs at some ungodly hour of the night here and has next to no importance in our day to day lives takes up 5-10 minutes of a half hour program.

I'm Irish. Therefore, if I want to still claim that I'm Irish, I can't look at a TV screen at all on Friday. It's hard not to give a 🤬 about this, but I'll say this: Kate Middleton is HAWT!!!

Completely uninterested in it.

I've no sense of pride for the royals, there are a hell of a lot more things to feel a sense of patriotism or pride for than a royal wedding. Sporting success, wartime heroes, the Red Arrows, innovation and invention, contribution to world history etc... the royals are just an omnipresent tourist feature.

However, I'm quite happy to accept the days off...

Being a prince is such a raw deal. The upside is that he gets pick of the litter, right? I don't know a girl that wouldn't want to literally become a queen and have a royal wedding. Girls dream about that crap. On the other hand, being a prince means that he must act "princely" so he can't run around and sleep with everyone since everything he does is scrutinized by the media. Sounds like cake but it's actually pretty difficult to live your entire life like that.

Btw, that's awesome to get days off for that crap.
