I Suggest one every one/two weeks, with people continuously suggesting themes.

Themes and events will be decided here with pictures going into the SYDC thread.

Everyone agree?

This sounds like a cool idea. Perhaps have them every Friday or Saturday night so people from different time-zones can join in.

Also, it does make more sense to post the pictures in here. If they were posted in Show Your Drift Cars, it could make specific photos quite hard to find.

I think putting the photos in here could work well enough. Some good ideas for themes so far.

One idea I had is that Sept 13, 14 and 15 could be S-Chassis days :)

The theme i will be hoping for tonight is "Playing GT5 while girls in bikini serve me drinks and cigarettes"!

Perfect! I'm back on the 12th!

I feel that pics in here would clutter it waaay too much, there would be a hard to read mix between images, commenting on images, organising meets and sorting the theme!

I thought you were back August 12th :/

I think we should try to limit ourselves to one, maybe two themes per month. That way, I think more people will remain interested, we won't run out of themes after a few short months, and it will give people time to actually organize meets, take quality photos, and spend time editing them if they want.

If we end up organizing one big room that a lot of people can join, to get massive group shots, great. However, I think we should stay open to the concept of lots of small groups of people getting together and getting creative with the theme. That way, there will be lots of variety, instead of everyone having photos of the same meet.

This will prevent people from feeling pressured to make it to a specific meet as well. I think one of the coolest things that ended up happening yesterday was how there was so many 86 photos being posted all day long, from one side of the globe to the other.

Anyways, just my two cents.

Exactly!!! I thought it would be cool to to have a sort of multi-day festival, especially for a car as important to the drift scene as the s-chassis. My idea was to do s13 on the 13th, s14 on the 14th, and s15 on the 15th. 180s and Sil80s could probably fit in on the 13th. A 3 day general s-chassis theme would be cool too though.

I guess the best way to start is by building a complete list of all the theme suggestions, and then decide on one for this month :)

I feel we would have to do a few s13/14/15 sequential events over the year, due to the importance and epicness of the s-chassis in the drifting scene.

But doing too many themed days will only water them out and they wont feel special anymore.

Next month, a theme like this might not feel as fun as it used to do. For instance, the 86 day happens on one date a year, and it's a day that many people look forward too (I for one have been looking forward to it since last years 86 day). And it's alot of fun and very exciting to follow as everything is exposed to the net (The Daikoku PA meets, Readers rides etc. on Speedhunters and various car culture blogs and tumblrs and of course the SYDC thread)

Furthermore, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of January are in the "real car world" considered the S-chassis days (Silvia S12 on the 2nd but that car isn't in GT5). And those are also dates to really look forward to.

All I'm saying is, dont take things too far, or it will all dry out and become boring quick!

Dont know how much sense I've made (I am Swedish afterall, with English not being my first language) I just had to vent it out.

I understand Cerebus, but it's an entire year! (a year is a LONG time!)

+ Your English is perfect mate!

I mean we're not gonna have an 86 day every other week, maybe twice a year, or every few months.

I think I have to agree with Cerebus on this. Restricting specific themes to once per year, perhaps twice at most, keeps things fresh and exciting. The anticipation leading up to events will help make them more fun. I think we will be able to come up with more than enough themes to be able to have a different celebration each month, possibly more than once a month, without repeating things too much.

In regards to the S-chassis days. I did not know that Jan 2-5 was already set aside as S-chassis appreciation days. If that is indeed the case, I think we should definitely hold off on doing an S-chassis celebration until those days in Jan. Having our events and celebrations coincide with real world events and celebrations would be awesome! I think that's part of what made 86 day so much fun. We have some very talented photographers in the drift community -- who knows, if we time our events properly, maybe a few of us could get photos posted other places on the net that are also celebrating the same thing (could be great promo for the GT5 GTP drift scene).

Here is a list of some of the suggestions so far, as well as a few I added myself. This list is far from complete, and it is also a bit redundant...but I would rather fill up the list with ideas first, then start eliminating some of the less popular or repetitive ideas. Post any other ideas you have, and then hopefully Daft Biker can copy this into the OP, and keep it up to date.

Edit:
Themed Competitions...Just sayin...

+1

That's a great idea! I don't think the comp should necessarily be the main focus of the day/days, but themed friendly comps as part of the celebrations would be awesome.

Will update OP in a mo.

Good to see so much input to this:tup:

I agree with the keep it special sentiment although as someone fairly new to drifting in GT5 and as someone who knows jack about real drift cars it could be a useful learning experience to try out a bunch of different cars just for the fun of it. And more relevant cars than the seasonals often want me to try.

The other thing I'm looking forward to seeing how folk try to make their cars and shots stand out from the crowd - perhaps even for the more experienced drifters who've driven everything before it might get the creative juices flowing?

How about we pick something off the list for the last day of each month and leave the "special" 86 and S13/14/15 days alone? I'm happy with the suggestion for posting pics and discussing theme related stuff in this thread.

JZ day end of this month to get the ball rolling?

JZ day in real life

Nice vid! Damnn... watching drifting from Sekia Hills feels so nostalgic. Reminds me of when I first started getting into drifting and watching Video Option vids from around 2000-2001 hah
