This week's gr3 and 4 races are very hard for me.

No. It's everyone's own decision to use whatever aids he thinks he needs. I for one only use light ABS, nothing else.
I could be faster with aids sometimes, but that's not my way to go.
This is a thread comparing laptimes, and for driving assists making big differences, we should mention them. Just saying ... no offense meant.

Are you saying if he used countersteer assist he'd be faster?

No it wasn't taken as offensive at all, I'm just saying I clearly mentioned that he should remove assists.

traction and ABS are always the big ones to remove imo, or at least with ABS you should switch to weak. No ABS on a controller is a bit nightmarish, a wheel it's probably not that bad.

But more to your point, the counter steer assist, this might sound stupid but what does that even do? I mean presumably it tries to autocorrect the steering or prevent you from putting power down if you've got oversteer?

Just want clarity on this because it seemed as though you implied that he should turn countersteer assist ON, to Gain lap time. So I just want to make sure you meant that he should turn it off to gain time.

I don't want to imply anything ;) ...
I only stated : we had that test a few hours ago and believe me, the driver is a fast one on a wheel ... even he gained 0.9 with countersteer assist on.
I'm new to this game like you so I don't have a clue what that thing actually does  ...

And ... I have to apologise !!!
Didn't get the meaning of 'imply' right  ! I'm sorry, my excuse is I'm German .

Interesting

Out of curiosity, what is "a fast one" like what was the track and the lap times

I also note you stated he's on a wheel, so i wonder if having that assist on applies to controller users with the same effect.

I'll be sure to try that out when i get home in a whopping, 6 hours... ****

I'm using a T300RS with stock pedals...My assists are, Automatic Gears, ABS - Weak, Stability - ON, ABS - Weak, Counter-steering - OFF, TC - 3.
I keep getting various changes with TC. I was putting it down to 1, but then changing it back to 3 i was putting in better times. That's based on times of 45.25 on Kyoto and 1.52 on Dragon Trail.

Personally I'd turn stability off, keep ABS as weak, and turn traction to 0, then get yourself a decent setup for Dragons Trail and you should easily go sub 1:50

I'm also controller, automatic (ill eventually go manual), and my qualy is a 1:48.0

I initially was stuck around 1:50.5 and then i turned off TC, set ABS to weak and dropped quickly to 1:49.0

Then I just really tried to be as aggressive as I could around the track and find extra time.

I'd honestly say, if you could get a wheel then do it... Because on a wheel you can get a 1:48.0 without even trying to be honest. That's the thing a lot of wheel guys just don't understand, is that at a certain point, a wheel user can do easily, what a controller user has to be on the ragged edge for.

Yesterday i raced one of my friends who is terrible in every racing game, he is a typical North american that doesn't understand the intricacies of racing and ultimately how to get the most out of a lap.

He has struggled with some of the circuit experience stuff and couldn't gold the Nurburg CE because he just doesn't have track knowledge.

but... he has a wheel, and therefore he is automatically quick...Yesterday we were racing on Dragons trail, and honestly it was hard as **** to keep up with him... I'm watching him miss apexes, and not gain time in partsof the track, but he literally gains ALL the time lost by just using manual gears on a wheel... Out of every corner, he is just gone, and in the straights, forget it.

and people wonder why I want hardware restrictive match making.

Step one for faster times: manual gear shifts. :) All the other stuff can come later.

Time was about low 1.48 without, mid to low 1.47 with.

This sounds weird to me.
If you're fast enough to drive 1.48 it would imply that you're driving pretty clean, there aren't many corners on Dragon Tail that I could see the countersteer assist kicking in.

Don't worry, same for me, and I really have been trying so hard :(

I have won 2 races out of maybe 30+ now, the first was because my qualifying time was 1.52 something when my DR was I think C even though I had been putting up high 1.50 and low 1.51 in race I just hadn't redone my qualifying. So I was seeded #1 and just drove away from everyone.

The second was at DR:B with a mid 1.50 qualifying time where I started in 5th and every single person in front of me made a mistake at some point and I drove a clean race.

Winning isn't easy unless you are qualifying #1 and either have the pace to pull away from opponents, or you drive really consistently - and even then Dragon Tail doesn't allow for too much passing unless you can get a good run through the start/finish or out of the S bends.

I wouldn't sweat it, it'll come.

You're right ... guess we all have to find out.

.

I agree it seems strange, especially if he's on a wheel because presumably with more travel in the steering it's easier for him to not need to correct in the first place, as opposed to a micro movement on a joystick it's obviously easier to oversteer

definitely gonna try this when i get home, but i don't expect anything to happen other than going slower tbh..

I have a feeling it's one of those placebo effect type things, where he was trying too hard or something, put on a largely irrelevant assist and then finally got an ultimate lap strung together, and just blamed it all on the assist. Idk

Can we create a lobby for us winless folk? I'll set it up tonight. Look out for one called the Losers Club at about 21:00 UK time tonight. At least one of us will get a win.

I don't believe created lobbies count towards wins or poles btw.. I thin it's only the Sport mode stuff.

I thought 1:49.5ish was good for Dragon Trail with the DS4 with no tunes, but I got destroyed as well. I'll look to try the tunes, thanks!

Yeah I don't think my tune is the greatest, but its better than what I had for sure.

really removing the assists and being more aggressive on track is what got me the most time though.

try out the counter steer assist if you are able to, I'm stuck at work and definitely want to see if using countersteer assist actually helps improve lap time.

Agreed, I will try the weak assist tonight on a controller, but somehow I doubt it'll make much difference.

on Nurburgring on Sport mode, will i need to own a GR.3 car? I couldn't compete in the previous GR.3 race as i didn't own one!
You need to own a GR.3/GR.4 to compete in the GR.3/GR.4 daily races, last week they gave you a car - this week you need to own one.
However, so far all the N300 races have been car supplied, not that they're very expensive.

If you're tight on money I suggest doing the "learn the courses" it's pretty easy to get all golds and they give you a pretty good amount of money. You also get a free car for completing all challenges for each course. So far I've bought 3 or 4 GR.4 cars, and received a couple more as free prizes + a GR.3 as a free prize (and a handful of crappy things + a few GR.X and a GR.1 LeMans car).
I also bought a GR.B to do the rally challenges.

Lots of times being posted in this thread but not the actual cars and classes, so it's hard to make sense of everyones different experiences.

I just did a 1:42 in the circuit experience at Dragon Trail, with the jaguar F-type Gr. 3. But maybe this car is tuned in some way? Can't see any info about it.

The times being posted are the daily race qualifying times in the GR.4 class.
So power / weight are regulated.

Last time I checked 1.46.3 was the world #1 time for the daily race on Dragon Tail with a GR.4 Nissan GT-R, I have no idea what the car was tuned to.

Good point. Does anyone know P1 worldwide.
Tuesday night it was a 1.46.0xx where I am ( Europe, Central Europe, whatever ) ?

Ok, I see. The events have been taken down so I can't investigate this on my own atm.

Why is it during qualifying the car feels rock solid like it’s on rails. But as soon as the race starts, it’s almost like the car has gained half of its weight or gone down a couple of tire levels? Yes, I make sure I’m in my setup before leaving the garage.

Pretty sure we all said at one point that we were talking about the GTR Gr.4 on Dragons Trail seen as it's the weekly race in Sport Mode.

I'm pretty sure there's input lag involved, as soon as you play online. It's not much, but just enough to change the feel of your car. It's been there since the closed beta, so i'm not sure if it's fixable.

The trick to put in good lap times is to drive with less grace and instead really push it aggressively. The game doesn't punish you for going almost off track so you need to take advantage of that. This is why you see a lot of the top players completely destroying the curbs. Their driving style is just a small step away from actual cheating.

An example of the track in question:

Super smooth and super quick. You carry tons of corner speed. Nice lap.

Still having oversteer issues with the cars using my ds4, but doing low 1:48's with the Viper. Check out the tuning thread. Those guys got some nice setups.
Woah. I was going to by the GR4 Porsche tonight but if the Viper is that fast I might just get it instead.

I don't have the same problems, however there is a known bug with the N300 races that if you enter race but don't run a qualifying lap you start the race with Sport Hard tires instead of Racing Hard.

From what I've seen, the GT-R is the best car for the current daily races, and judging by the stats it looks pretty solid overall.
Granted every car is "even" online, I seem to prefer the FF cars with higher stability.

From what I've seen on the leaderboards it's mostly been GT-R, with a few others mixed in, I've seen the Viper in the top 10 though (personally I don't like how it drives, but it looks gorgeous).

That's actually a pretty cool idea :) I won't be on GT tonight unfortunately though.

So as a lifelong GT fan, I have to say that I am really enjoying GT Sport, and I know the satisfaction when I get that first win / podium will be a great one.

I would argue that real racing is not all about winning, and I have had some incredible races / battles towards the second half of the grid and it feels incredibly satisfying to climb a few positions and finish in one piece.

I am a very clean racer, currently DR: D and SR: S, and greatly enjoy a close, clean battle.

I think I need to rethink my mindset with regards to the daily races. In many ways, getting a great qualify time is of the utmost importance in terms of improving your DR and finishing in a high position. Given the short running time of these races, I think you need to start fifth or higher to have any chance of finishing 1st.

Really looking forward to longer races where consistency and clean racing is rewarded rather than outright speed and on-the-edge risktaking.

Anyway, my few cents!

I genuinely don't know how you've managed to get an S rating for SR

Unless you've just been driving on your lonesome for the most part at the back, or avoiding collisions in the mid field.

But when you're in the top 3 fighting for that win, i honestly don't think it's possible to not get hit and get a penalty, OR slightly bump the side of someones car and get a penalty.

By bump, I mean when you squeeze someone, they are so harsh on this game in the sense that theyll give you a penalty for slightly touching the other car even though they are fine.

The sharp end of the grid is a nightmare for trying to keep SR up.

Most of the races I have played online have started and finished me in the midfield, so I have just been very careful to avoid unnecessary collisions. Maybe I am being too careful, but I am clearly way off the pace to finish higher up.

I have mostly been doing the Dragon Trail GR.4 race with a Honda NSX (until it was changed a day ago) and whilst I improved my qualifying time to a 1:50, I still ended up starting towards the back of the field.

Let's see, it's a learning process, and I am sure I can improve my pace as time progresses.
