The thing that spurred this thread is the fact that I'm again hunting for a certain muscle car colour and the cars I've had trouble with this far (Superbird and Charger Super Bee) are both prize cars so it's taking its time. Thus I've had time to think of things while waiting for B-Spec Botcher running circles on New York and bringing me another goo green example when I want something else.

But, the actual subject. Back in the day when I had an Evening Blue 'Cuda I wanted a blue Superbird to go with it and the closest match was Jamaica Blue. Then when I managed to get that I wanted a blue Charger too, and went for a Dark Blue Metallic example. Now I have a Tor Red 'Cuda, and as its counterpart a Tor Red Superbird too. And I'm trying to get a Hemi Orange Charger which, interestingly, looks just like the same colour.

For all the walking muscle car encyclopedias out there, as these are all Chrysler Corporation products and the colours look astonishingly similar, is it possible that the very same stuff that is dubbed as Tor Red on a Plymouth magically becomes Hemi Orange when it's sprayed on a Dodge? The same goes for the shades of blue, especially Evening Blue and Dark Blue Metallic looking very much the same and Jamaica Blue being just a tad off if any. Just curious.

Greycap, I'm no Mopar guru but...I've noticed that it's "possible" certain colours can't be unlocked unless you go for them in A-spec rather than B-spec. I don't know this, but it's an hypothesis based on a limited amount of testing.

Respectfully yours,

All I can say is that PD messed up so bad when they decided to have the Super Bee and the Superbird as prize cars. :banghead:

No idea about the "locked" colours, Botcher brought the Hemi Orange Super Bee home tonight, but it's definitely possible that certain colours are far more rare than other. The amount of the races run during the hunt for the Dark Blue Metallic and now this hovers somewhere around the one hundred mark and this far I've seen this single Hemi Orange and not a single black example.

And I completely agree about PD's decision. It would be a different case if the system would be "hey, you won car X, pick the colour you like" but as it isn't this is pure idiocy.

Still no deeper Mopar knowledge?

What is the color of the car Bob is driving? Has he tried other colors? Perhaps the dark blue can only be won with the dark green, or some such combination?

Big thanks Too Old, that's exactly what I needed.

And go figure... the VIN code V2 is Hemi Orange for Dodge in the model year 1971, and Tor Red for Plymouth in both 1970 and 1971. If that isn't enough, B7 is Jamaica Blue for Plymouth in 1970 as well as Dark Blue for Dodge and Evening Blue for Plymouth in 1971. It seems my eyes are better than I thought!
