Thoughts on VR Online Multi Player ?

GT Sport could handle 1 vs 1 multiplayer if Kaz & PD would take the time to implement it. It already does 1 vs 1 with the A.I., so I'm kinda annoyed they didn't at least give us some bare minimum VR multiplayer. Even more so, now that DriveClub VR's servers are no longer available, leaving absolutely zero options for multiplayer track/open world VR racing on PS4. We do have Dirt Rally for some off-road action & WipEOut for some sci-fi, but really hoping all racing games offer VR support for the PS5 moving forward.

I like the idea a lot, but I’m not sure how taxing it’d be - on PD’s development efforts, the PS5 itself, or the next game’s online infrastructure.

For online infrastructure it makes no difference. It only requires rendering on your own consoles. The servers don't need to know you are running VR.

PS5 should definitely be able to handle it at a reasonable resolution at high framerates. PS4 Pro would probably be able to handle it, but they can't have Pro exclusive features, and the standard PS4 is just barely too weak to run it.

I believe the PS5's excess RAM, SSD speeds, & 3D Audio were all tailored with VR in mind. From my point of view, Sony sees HUGE potential and are going all in on VR, and want to see more devolopers add VR support to their games. I'm curious if their dev kits have software plug-in functionality to make it even easier for devolopers to implement it. Maybe wishful thinking, but imo, all the cards stack up to make PS5 ideal for the implementation of VR functionality in games that wouldn't be able to support it otherwise.

I don’t see a problem with the functionality, however I think playing in VR can be advantageous and so that’s why I don’t think it’ll happen for SPORT mode. Maybe for lobbies :)

With how low resolution PSVR1 is it should absolutely be achievable. VR doesn't give a competitive edge, it's just a lot more immersive, so I don't see that stopping it in any way.

i3 8100 + 8gb ram + 970gtx can handle 55 players in iRacing VR using oculus CV1.

So a modern PS5 should be able too

I just saw a video of a guy doing a lap in VR for GTS, and I was shocked... at first I thought it was a real video someone posted of them racing, but then realized it was GTS. I’m trying to buy one right now lol! Definitely will be getting this for GT7!

As long as the game, including the online modes, is fully playable in VR, I will consider GT7 to be the biggest leap forward the series has ever experienced even if it were otherwise indistinguishable from GT Sport (not that I'm expecting it to be).

As far as I'm concerned, it's an absolute must. If they screw this up, it'll be the biggest missed opportunity.

I can't tolerate TV screen racing after GT Sport PSVR, even though, lets be honest, GT Sport PSVR was a disgraceful excuse for VR driving, let alone racing.

VR not only adds a whole new dimension (literally), it exposes just how unrealistic TV screen racing really is. Its amazing to realise what we've been putting up with for years. All (well, OK, nearly all) those doubts disappear in VR, because you can sense, by sight alone, so much more and drive accordingly without even thinking about it. If they ever add G forces at a reasonable price, the sensory inputs will be complete.

I've been spoilt by VR racing and I don't care. I'm a committed addict. It's either VR or nothing from now on. I'm never going back to TV screen driving.

As for online VR, bring it on, please! But, for ***** sake sort out the farcical penalty system first. I gave up on GT Sport multiplayer because I was sick and tired of being rammed off the track by morons using me as a braking device, whilst escaping severe penalties themselves.

Let's see how many hardware fumbles that Sony did:

PSVita
The original PS Move which also has analog sticks for the Navigator
PS Sharpshooter which is now forgotten
Doesn't support many old steering wheel controllers on PS4
The new PS Move without analog sticks and still poor tracking
PSVR doesn't have many good games and don't always get 100% support (I know there are great ones, but you know it's still a disappointing list) and light tracking is now outdated
PS Aim controller (with no butt stock!) is not supported in many games

I expect much but I can't hope much for GT7.

It will be achievable and it will be a standard.
But nowhere near the next 10 years.

People have been racing online with VR on PC so I'd say within 10 years.
Achievable on all platforms and by all developers...They can try. But I'm talking about "standard", mainstream. Also due to technology stability and affordable prices for everybody.

There are 5 stages of technology adoption:
-Innovators
-Early adopters (guess that's where you stand, and that's around where VR market is right now)
-Early majority
-Late Majority
-Laggards

Online VR is all I want from next console and GT7, if it’s not there I’ll be considering moving to PC.

Don’t really care about super duper textures or ray tracing (GT sport is an eye candy enough).
If we can get GTs VR quality in GT7 online I’m a happy man.

I hope the game will be fully VR playable, and not only GT7 but majority of race sim/race games will get VR support on PS5. This is one of the reasons why i decided to go on with Playstation instead of taking Xbox, i hope I won't be disappointed.

I think with the release of PSVR-2 in.... lets say somewhere between 2022-2023 there will be a major update for gt7 bringing the vr mode for the whole game.

well i hope that current vr headset will also be supported. It works with ps5 so there is no reason to not support it
