In a desperate attempt to improve my performance on Gran Turismo I am contemplating buying a T598 and a Playseat Trophy.

I have never owned any sim racing equipment before. I was wondering, with the T598 wheelbase being as tall as it is and the Playseat Trophy wheel plate not being height adjustable, if this would create a (minor) visibility problem? I am relatively tall tho at 192 cm. So I guess I am asking whether anyone here has this equipment combination and how that is working out for you?

At that height im 99.9% certain youl be completely fine! The perks of being Dutch...well that and the Gabber parties

I started in on my wheel journey in GT7 3 months ago with the t128 (was £99.99 and I was wiped out due to xmas), recently I've found it very lacking, the pedals are horrible and the feedback was minimal. So I've decided to get the t598, I'm excited but I have a question or two.

I'll be going from a t128 to DD, what sort of adjustment period should I expect?

Will it come with the latest firmwave already?

Should I expect ultimate laptime improvements once I'm used to the wheel? I know consistency will be vastly improved, but seeing as I've only used the t128 I have no idea what sort of time improvements will come with a DD wheel.

I went from a T-150 to the T-598 last November. Saw an immediate improvement in laptimes due to actually feeling the grip and when it is lost. Corrections happen much quicker.

I had to ramp up the FFB strength, took about a month.

YOUR ARMS WILL GET SORE ON 100%! Your brake pedal foot will need some training, too. You can make it really stiff!

P.S. Make sure you update the firmware (needs a PC) to V2.07, it unlocks a half-dozen settings and another mode on the wheel itself.

Mine arrived last night 😁

Unboxed it today... Coming from a G29 I did not expect the weight of it 😅

Got the pedals set up on the rig, just need to drill some holes for the wheel base later.

Just as a quick test, I'm finding the black spring on the brakes feels more like my actual car and both pedals then set on the middle holder.

Can't wait to get stuck in now 😁

EDIT: set it up today but not used it yet due to time constraints 😒

So. I finally did the upgrade. For now I am very satisfied with T598. It is big step up from T300rs.
For now I am using my old T3pa pedals (since included ones doesn’t have a clutch pedal)

Does anyone got good ACC setting fir this wheel? GT7 works great but I can’t figure out ACC settings for this.
Did you update the firmware to 2.07 or newer? You’ll thank me once you do. Lots more settings unlocked from the stock build.

Reading the latest comments....I'm both excited and dreadful of what it might be like if/when I go from my T150 workhorse to the T598. 😬

I came from the T150. NIGHT and DAY difference. You can feel so much more so you make fewer mistakes.

I've had my T300 for 10 years and it's been great. On the fence about getting the 598, is it that much different? Also have the T3pa pedals. I've heard the wheel feels cheap on the 598 so that's put me off a little.

Plenty of good Thrustmaster wheels to choose from now though. Thrustmaster Ferrari 488 GT3 a must imo. The Hyper Car rim is well is sensational although pretty expensive.

Been thinking, Every review says the 10nm overboost feature doesnt make any difference, ie Moza 5 vs 598 feels the same. Could this be to GT still not supporting the wheel natively and we will only see this feature in future games or those games that do update to support the wheel fully?

I switched from T300RS GT to T598 this week. The main reasons were I wanted to:
  1. Try DD - well, the DD is a significant step up over belt, no questions. It's much easier to catch a slide - most of them were impossible on T300.
  2. Get rid of overheating issue (and loosing FFB during the race) - damn it, I raced 1hour race on Gr4 yesterday, FFB in GT7 set to 5/1, recommended Thrustmaster settings for the GT7. The base got really hot and much of FFB strength faded away after around 50min. The room was around 19°C. I was hoping Thrustmaster learnt from the past but it doesn't seem to be the case. What a shame.

I think if I decide to get rid of T598, I'll buy Logitech Pro wheel. I miss some real quality.
I tried the T598 and it is not nearly as good as the Pro wheel. Just as you noted, it gets very hot and ultimately failed on me in less than two weeks. My G Pro has been rock solid, plus it does not overheat.

Currently if I buy directly from Logitech I'll get discount + Astro A30 headphones + newly released shifter - if I sell headphones and shifter I'll be just over Fanatec GT DD Pro. I'm just worried my NLR WS 2.0 Lite won't be strudy enough and I cannot afford (not money-wise, but space-wise) solid rig.

This is quite strange, I have had the wheel since launch and done long stints in rooms with temps much higher than 19° C and never lost force feedback. That’s using extreme settings on the base and usually level 10 FF in GT7.
